The issues he had in the video weren’t in the original game. You can glide of springs in bubzy, the fall damage either was made up or is a lot higher as I never experienced it in my play throughs. Also bubzy’s glide is a lot more controllable than what’s shown in the video.
Honestly those issues are worst in his own game cause the screen is more zoomed in in his own game. The fact that Bubsy somehow got a PlayStation 4 game is beyond the human mind's ability to understand.

I think you deserve the win on the Bubsy run since it's a cutscene- if you don't have control of the character, then it shouldn't count against you. You still beat both the Wing Fortress and Death Egg levels otherwise. The cutscene is just completely bugged out. You got all three variations completed, if you ask me. Well done.
Funny thing is, if someone modded in Zero from the Megaman Zero Series with all of his moves you could play it kinda like sonic, since he has a spin attack in the air and a rolling dash on the ground, along with the regular dash giving quite a bit of speed and the recoil rod being able to bounce on enemies.

I actually played Bubsy games as a kid on the Super NES, and thought that was what Sonic games are probably like. I did have some fun, but I died a lot and it did feel unfair at times. When I finally got around to playing Sonic games later in life, I noticed that Bubsy felt like the platforming section of Sonic where you go slower, like Marble Zone and such. But Bubsy had nothing comparable to the speed stages and easier sections, because the faster sections in Bubsy were these river areas where you feel out of control and have to worry a lot.
i LOVE the idea of a puzzle game about trying to complete levels as a character the levels are NOT designed for. like you can see an easy way, IF you had a different toolkit. but you dont, so you gotta puzzle your way to the end instead!
Yeah that’d be a really cool idea maybe at first you speed through the levels due to having the right kits to beat them as you switch characters every few levels but then at the final level you get sent back to level 1 but with a different character and you gotta beat the levels with different characters then repeat that until you beat all the levels with all the characters then you got a final boss fight and credits
That and Mario could survive falling damage. In Super Mario 64, Mario could fall from really high up and hit the ground at terminal velocity, lose half his power, and get right back up. Give him some coins or jump in the water and he's fine again!

True only Green Hill does this well in Sonic 1, but this is why Sonic 2 is significantly better, because they realized their mistake of slowing down what is supposed to be about speed for monotonous platforming. You go up you get more rewards, you stay lower in the level it's more treacherous, you try to stay roughly in the middle then it's faster. Sonic is all about speed, that was the tag line why he stood out from Mega Man and Mario back in the day, but this aspect of platforming, is truly what made Sonic stand out as a platformer, that there was exploration. Probably why CD was disliked for the longest time, because it was too much exploration, both sequels to Sonic 1 went different directions with how they wanted to handle the franchise. Each level is handled that way, in order to create your own experience, something Mega Man wouldn't do for some time, and while Mario had... it was just to cheese levels, short cuts to make it easier and skip content, Mario 2 (of which in fact the Lost levels would instead punish you for exploring and either rob you of the true ending or if you were unlucky could send you backwards in levels), Mario 2 Doki Doki, and Mario 3 all did this. Even Mario World which had been out by this point wouldn't be this deep with its levels, you still only have essentially 2 routes and only in certain levels, Sonic 2 was a jungle gym, with different things to play on, while Mario was a slide, you can have fun sliding down or climbing up the slide... but that's only 2 ways to play. Interested to see how you can make non Sonic characters beyond Yoshi (which honestly made sense, especially using the Yoshi's Island version, doubt Mario World Yoshi would function as well) work. Interesting experiment with mods, curious to see more, just explaining in more detail why Sonic 2 is that way with its maps. 13:52... it is at this point that I realize I should watch the video fully instead of talking 1st lol.

The thing about Death Egg Final boss is that if you're behind the Death Egg Robo (on the side of his jet engine back pack), that's when he will launch the egg robos. So the way you're supposed to fight this boss as Yoshi is to wait for him to go into the air and then stay behind him so you can get free eggs and pelt eggman with him. It's not random at all! EDIT1:The 2nd rom hack is a dope ass rom hack, but it was sadly never finished so it's left as a prototype more than anything (which Im sure you could probably tell.) GJ with that though!

In terms of your critique of oil ocean zone, that is the whole point. People forget, but Sonic has always been, to varying degrees, about environmentalism. Eggman is representative of industrialization and is anti-wildlife while Sonic and friends are literally wildlife themselves. This is a lot more apparent in the older games, but yeah, oil ocean zone feels bad because it's meant to feel bad

In terms of your critique of oil ocean zone, that is the whole point. People forget, but Sonic has always been, to varying degrees, about environmentalism. Eggman is representative of industrialization and is anti-wildlife while Sonic and friends are literally wildlife themselves. This is a lot more apparent in the older games, but yeah, oil ocean zone feels bad because it's meant to feel bad

the attack of the death egg robot that throws bombs does not come out through the groundpound, for it to throw the bombs you have to stay behind eggman when he lands, since he cannot turn around, throw the bombs behind him, this makes it much easier for the boss to use yoshi
