    I love the railroads that break down the brick wall between them and the general public

      That’s one of the best bits of praise (and fact) I’ve heard in a long time!

      Thanks so much! We're aspiring for real - not stuffy or overproduced. We work hard, our volunteers work hard, and our donors generously give - so we want to be very "honest" about what it takes to make these things go "choo choo."

      @@mtrainierrail It’s all the hard work that goes into preservation, operation, and interpretation (and love) that oft goes unappreciated but is the glue that binds us together. And as a Californian who loves seeing our West Coast history preserved, it warms my heart. Can’t wait for more highballing!

    Ok one more and then I'll stop foaming/gushing. I appreciate how "human" and authentic you are allowing yourselves to be. From your personalities, to the fun you have, to the transparency you show on here with how things are going, it really puts a smile on my face. I'm sure others will agree. Thank you for pouring so much love into the organization and each other. It's all UP from here!
    Side question, how much time do 70 and 17 have on their boiler tickets?

    • @mtrainierrail
      @mtrainierrail  6 місяців тому +1

      We're blushing over here. But seriously, the transparency is calculated. We really care about the heritage rail industry as a whole and we worry that with changing times and volunteer bases aging, many won't make it. We want to be honest about what it takes to restart a railroad and keep it running. Most of the focus is on mechanical/track work as the "business" challenges probably aren't nearly as entertaining to watch - but we like being open about those too. At the very least, maybe we'll spark some conversation about what to (or not to) do. Thanks for tuning in!

    I love just how real and down to earth you both are. Im definitely following the progress (albeit from Pennsylvania...dang) and cant wait to see the runaway (not like that) success you all bring back to the place.

    I’m glad to see the railroad come back! I’m going to assume by the pictures and videos I’ve seen. The 70 is probably going to be the first steamer to return?

  • @dylanjames554

    I don't quite see how it was "dumb" (per Rowdy's claim) to open operations circa 1980 with the Climax and Heisler, other than the two being mechanically difficult. Those excursions blazed the trail leading up to the current phase of the MRSR's story, plus an operational example of the two was the hallmark of the railroad's uniqueness! I should hope those dedicated to preserving this operation would understand that!
    (Okay, I'll stop being snarky and say I'm genuinely glad this channel exists and I wish you all nothing but success in the coming months and years. Thank you for your dedication to re-christening this fabulous operation! I'll be watching and donating frequently.)

    • @mtrainierrail
      @mtrainierrail  Рік тому +3

      Rowdy is prepping a video reply! If you hadn't noticed, he's quite the character. We (the poor folks who have to work with him) would say that he's one of the most dedicated preservationists out there, down to the smack talk and cursing (directed at the engines) that has always gone along with maintaining steam engines. We'll highlight Rowdy's story at some point - he grew up on the railroad and spent a lot of time with Tom Murray, Jack Anderson, Blackie Moiser, and many other folks who dedicated their lives to MRSR. He's been working on the engines since he was about 12, and firing since he was 14 - something that would probably never happen these days! We're proud to carry on both the legacy of logging railroading and the legacy of the folks who started the railroad. Having said that - it doesn't mean the work isn't an absolute pain in the a** sometimes, and we're not shying away from that on this channel!
      Thanks for following along!

    Are you in need of more volunteers at the museum? If you are accepting volunteers, what prerequisites are you looking for? I may not be the most qualified or local but I am willing to learn and do what I can.
