You keep getting better! Beautiful knife, fantastic pattern! If I were to criticize one thing (constructively of course) I would like to see a pin through the tang and handle. That’s a huge, heavy blade and it is held with epoxy on a tapered tang.
@@AngloSaxon1 Sure, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it clearly worked for the time. But if you have the option to make extra sure the blade is secure, why not just go for it, right?
Dude, I can't believe how far you've come with your channel. Your video quality and blades have come on leaps and bounds. Phenomenal blade my dude. Love it!
JP… Beautiful work my friend!! Been following you since you started, your progress has been a lot of fun to watch. I am with you on the gloves!! I hate the feel and smell of epoxy on my hands!!!
Subscribed today and now im addicted 😂, im most definitely buying one when available, i like the fact that there not to much noise and you explain every detail just amazing
Could I ask you why you wanted to cut in the tip with the grinder. Looking back, do you think it would have been a neater pattern to see it compressed into the tip rather than remain undistorted off the end of the blade? Beautiful work!
I figured since the clip is so aggressive, i wouldn't like how the pattern would look taking that dive so i just cut it out and let it go straight and undisturbed.
Gloves for me with epoxy as well. I saw one maker (can’t remember who) doubled up on his gloves. When he gets the messy part done, he takes the outer pair off and has clean gloves to wear for the final blade cleanup.
Say what you want, it's great to be humble but you really did a great job 👏 There's always going to be room for improvement as there should be otherwise whats the point in continuing to do something you love. Overall smashed it man! (Edit) Thanks for calling me out at the end, I'm now subbed 😉
No idea. All i know is cofee is acidic and that acid makes it darker without damaging the steel. If i left it in ferric chloride as long as i leave it in coffee we would have a serious issue 😅
It’s better not to cut your billets straight but under an angle when you’re restack them that way you’ll get more surface for the forge weld and you also can press it from the top as usual not from the front you had to with a straight cut
I plan on it. I upgraded the pump and motor over christmas but i plan on upgrading the piece that goes up and down in the next few weeks so i can start doing mosaics and more precise patterns. Right now it has way too much play.
Please stop calling it Damascus, use "patternwelded" "forgewelded" instead as true Damascus steel is monochrome crucible steel. On the otherhand, love your work.
@@JPsBladeworks Indeed I did, but it do annoy med how, specially av American, smiths have a tendency to brand patternwelded steel like yours here as "Damascus steel", even though it's not. It's better to be honest and call it what it is, patternwelded and in your context here, also forge welded, instead of continuing to spread missinformation by calling it "Damascus steel".
Great job, JP! Time for mosaics but get that press adjusted! 😉
Yup im already planning for it asap.
Daamn! That's a long boy Knife! Looks awesome man. Congrats for the blade and great work on the commentary as well, very enjoyable!
Cheers!
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Your sword was incredible. I going to have to go all out next challenge.
Well done, JP! The pattern ended up being pretty stellar! I love how the red of the handle contrasts nicely against the dark blade.
Thanks Justin. Thats what i was going for because the bold colors look well in pictures.

Ill keep that in mind for future builds. I appreciate the constructive criticism.
The research says that the seax blades of the AS and the Vikings was held in by friction

Gorgeous blade man! The pattern is awesome! Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
Love your content brother. Keep on keepin' on as you have become my new favorite channel. The blend of machinery and hand forging is perfect.
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Well executed JP!! One damn fine looking seax, slicey as well!
Thank you
Beautiful blade but is that handle going to stand up to heavy use over time without any pins? I suspect not.

I think you can stop calling yourself a beginner! Very nicely done, and boy, do you have lots of patterned steel done for future projects!
Next few builds will be a set of knives from my left overs of this billet.
Beautiful seax and pattern i love that handle

That sounds like a good idea. Thats what the bearded burtchers do in their videos. Makes sense. Ill have to give it a try.

Yes, the old Viking pineapple, melon, and soft drink test
Only the best of test for the old viking sword
Outstanding blade, it came out beautiful. You did an incredible job dealing with the size you were pressing. ~Kevin
Thanks Kevin. It was a challenge but we made it work.

Thank you. I appreciate the continued support.
This blade is beautiful. I love the pattern in it.......I think we have a front runner
Thank you but have your check out the other guys. Man they made some sick builds.
since it is such a big knife, wouldn´t it be better to have a few pins in the handle and/or a butt cap? I like the damascus design, nice work
Yea it would. It didnt come to mind since im not used to make anything this size.
Another Awesome video

Cornbread and biscuits!!!
And if it's broke 'round here we fix it!

I dont think im going to balde show this year. Its still up in the air for me unfortunately.
Gotcha. If you do, hope to see you there!
