  • A relaxing treatment, safe for children, adults and during pregnancy. It is believed to originate from a Native American Indian tribe called the Hopis (meaning 'peaceful people'). Hopi ear candles are used to support imbalances within the ear, nose, throat and chest areas including build up of wax, ringing in the ears, hearing difficulties and sinus problems as well as colds, 'flu, sore throats, headaches and migraines. The ear candle is not actually a candle but a cotton tube impregnated with beeswax, sage, St John's Wort, chamomile, honey and beta-carotene. It is lit and the non-burning end is placed gently into the outer ear passage. The candle generates a gentle heat that produces a light suction action and draws impurities gently to the surface, where they can be removed. Most deposits evaporate and are carried away through the candle 'chimney', but some are found in the condensed candle wax residue. A lymphatic facial massage completes the treatment to encourage further drainage. Hopi ear candling can be combined with massage and reflexology.

Thank you Justine for uploading this, together with your 'personal' recipes at the end of your video...I don't understand why so many people are against this type of treatment which I think, is so natural and unobtrusive! As it always happens, halopathic pharmacology is sure to be an influence on them.

Thank you for your comments. With regard to the name Hopi's I apologise if this has caused any offence as my understanding is that the Hopi tribe did use. With regard to the other comments Auricular therapy in my clinical experience has supported many people. It is a legitimate therapy and medical research is not the be and end all for everything - I believe the UK to be a free country and that we are still allowed our own opinions and thoughts. Nobody is asking you to use it if you do not like it! Blessings

+Justine Evans My father is the total opposite to me, when it comes to health he just wants drugs, I prefer to try herbal and other natural remedies first, he has had sinus problem since he was a child and during the summer on the lead up to going on holiday he had the worst ear infection he had ever had, all the drugs he was taking weren't making a dent in it and he knew if something didn't change he wouldn't be able to fly out. As a last option my mother booked him an appointment with a beautician she knew who does massage, hopi candles and a few other treatments. the next day he noticed a huge improvement, he was far from perfect but he was able to fly out. that is evidence enough to me they they do something! The infection didn't stay away long but when modern medicine wasn't doing anything the candle atleast helped.

+markus Kimura thank you for your comments. I have seen some great results using ear candles particularly when combined with other therapies such as lymphatic massage and nutrition and far infrared therapy.

Some salons call it Hopi Ear candles, which is in fact how I ended up here.

Morning. I am intending on filming this again. It was purely for demonstration purposes and filmed many years ago. The "noise" is from a children's school close by which unfortunately had play time but the point of the video is to see a demonstration for ear candling.

Too much background noise, it sounds like the middle of a school playground? Disappointing that you don't find out whether it's made a difference either, it just finishes.

Please change the title of this video. That this is questionable medicine makes no difference to me but the fact that the Hopi people have time and again asked for their tribes name to not be associated with this practice and product can very easily be remedied by not using their name. I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Only problem is that the Hopis have never heard of it....

Just a heads up, HOPI have never done or used ear candling, they have never endorsed HOPI ear candling and this further offends the Hopi Nation. Please educate yourself on the true history of ear candling. BTW, the Biosun Ear Candling display box - the indians are holding feathers not ear candles.

The Hopi tribe did not ever use ear candles.
    March 1, 2004
    Dear Ms. King,
Thank you for your letter dated March 2, 2004, in follow-up to your September 19, 2003, requesting clarification of the Hopi Cultural Preservation Office's response.
The Hopi Cultural Preservation Office is not aware of Hopi people ever practicing "Ear Candeling." Biosun and Revital Ltd. are misrepresenting the name "Hopi" with their products. This therapy should not be called "Hopi Ear Candeling." The history of Ear Candeling should not refer to being used by the Hopi Tribe. Use of this false information with reference to Hopi should be stopped.
We appreciate your efforts to stop this false representation the United Kingdom, and we will inquire as to whether Martin Gashweseoma gave permission for the use of his image for the promotion of ear candles. Thank you for your interest in resolving this situation.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Lee Wayne Lomayestewa at the Hopi Cultural Preservation Office. Thank you again for your consideration.
    Respectfully,
    Leigh J. Kuwanwisiwma, Director
    Hopi Cultural Preservation Office
