Не понял только одного. Смысл этих процедур? Стока из пруда нет, значит вода будет застаиваться и портиться, а это даст запах + заиливание. Т.е. по сути рукотворное болото.

No problem! The ditch is just dug along the natural ground flow. There where the water flows most logically.
