    I love your camisole, the placement of the pattern is spot on and so clever to also use the napkins to give yourself more fabric to work with. I don’t have a problem with people repurposing tablecloths. Why not showcase that beautiful hand embroidery in a garment rather than it languish in a drawer or attic with no-one seeing it? I remember your pal Amelia made an Agatha top out of a table cloth with stunning results. If pattern placement is done thoughtfully then it can really make the original handiwork shine ❤

    I’ve been collecting similar tablecloths and napkins that are embroidered for very, very long time. I’ve always wanted to turn them into something to wear. I haven’t wanted to use the mist tablecloths because I didn’t want them to get stained. As you say, someone put a lot of work into them, and I want them to be displayed and admired. Some of them would make lovely curtains as well. Pillows. But I love the idea of summer top or dress. Thank you for your courage! Very inspiring.

    What a fantastic make Amelia. As usual your attention to detail is spot on. You've inspired me to get that old bed and table linen from the attic. I definitely think vintage fabric should be repurposed. Especially if everyone does it in the considered way you did.

    Lovely camisole and a very timely sew a long! I’m about to make a dinosaur for my grandson and your advice on stitching scallops will be very helpful as I stitch the spines!😂 I also have inherited several tablecloths and doilies from my m-i-l and plan to make them into clothes, I know the plain cotton crochet ones will dye well, I just have to decide how to combine them! ❤

    I've collected many vintage tablecloths over the years & I cut the ones that are marked or stained, to use for making clothes or for quilting. I guess I will struggle to find them now though😂 Loving this series, especially as you are using what you have & not going buying more❤

    Repurposing is the way to go. When my parents died i found table cloth and napkin sets that had never been used , still in their box and wedding wishes on the cards , so they were 40 years old..oh how I wish I had kept them instead of taking them to the opshop, but that was nearly 30 years ago.
    Your cami is beautiful

    I made a tablecloth blouse a couple of years ago using the Pattern Scout Fern Top (view A), with the square neckline from the expansion pack. I used a white embroidered table cloth for the yoke part and a green solid table cloth for the rest. It turned out quite pretty, but now I'm tempted to remove the green and use white fabric instead. I really liked how the white looks.

    I've made this cami out of 2 scallop edged pillowcases. I had to extend the facing as fabric was a bit thin and landed mid bustline. I'm a 34DD and found the fit a bit too tight across the bust so passed it on to my sister. But I do agree it's a great free pattern and I'm inspired to try it again.

    • @sewamelia
      @sewamelia  Місяць тому +1

      The bust was definitely more fitted than other camisoles I have made, but it seemed to work well with the shape of the scalloped neckline. I will definitely be trying it again too!

    Marvellous vlog! Really enjoying it, just as good as the “Bee”! I would definitely use a tablecloth! Throughout history fabric has been reused and repurposed, mended and altered. It’s only recently we have started throwing away unwanted clothes, when they could be reused…… patchwork blankets is an instant thought. Loving it😀

    I have so many lace tablecloths that have been hand knitted or crocheted by my grandmother and mum that many will be donated after my mum passes. I hope that they will find new homes and new purpose when the time comes, even if that means they will get cut up and worn. My nephew certainly has no interest in inheriting a hundred lace doilies.

    Lovely top, great work! I am not against reusing these linens, but I am against wasting them - which is what really happens because of the rushing on the Sewing Bee. I have made a 'tablecloth top' and, even though the original fabric had a hole in it, I still took forever to decide how/whether to cut it so as not to waste any. I find the waste of fabric caused by rushing the patttern challenge really difficult to watch. I know there needs to be a buzz and some excitement about whether garments will be finished or not, but most of the garments turn out to be unwearable which is such a waste of time, effort and resources. Thanks for making the videos, very much appreciated.

    • @sewamelia
      @sewamelia  Місяць тому

      I really agree. It was a lovely top to make and I really enjoyed the challenge of making sure there was a little waste as possible. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Amelia,
    The napkins would have crocheted together in a wink of an eye. Do you crochet? As all good grannies I make “Afghan” rugs for my grand-daughters to either wrap up in to read a book or just an extra layer for their beds. When my hands were younger and smooth I would embroider supper cloths and napkins for my nieces. I must send this video to them in case they would like to re-purpose their cloths into something more useful.
    Love your camisole - so pretty. 🦘🇦🇺
