    Nothing beats sucker fishing. The suspense is incredible. There are plenty of details to master, too.

    That might have been the smoothest solo net job I have ever seen on a fish that size I've ever seen! Well done good sir!!

      I made my own! Stealth tackle has great rigs available, the GT rigs are my favorite!

    Last November, eh? Good luck this fall. 😊
    Beautiful giant muskie, Ben.
    Try trolling crankbaits this fall along those same breaklines/weedlines. Speed between 2 and 4 mph. That might seem fast for this time of year but it works. Dec 5 1999 I caught 2 in 15 minutes on White Bear trolling crankbaits. It works. This was before they closed the season on Dec 1.
    Great underwater shots at the beginning. Some of the best I've seen.

      That’s awesome! I haven’t trolled at all yet, maybe I’ll try it this fall!

      @thelonesomefisherman7425 Рік тому

      @benstonefishing It's another option to put a fish in the boat. Concentrate on the breaklines, but you know that.
      There is nothing wrong with sucker fishing, but trolling can let you cover more water.

      P.S. your sucker rod should work for trolling crankbaits

    I asked on FB and people said to troll from .3 to .5mph.
    Why do you go at .7mph?
    Do you ever go slower?

    That fish had hooked itself on the take I expect. Hence why it ripped off 100 yards of line,

    Tackle might be kinda affordable, but suckers tend to be pretty much pricy lately (but always worth a try)

      @@benstonefishing you're right the truck, boat and that gear only costs about $2, you're selling right? pulls out $2

    • @jakestarr4718
      @jakestarr4718 Рік тому

      Honestly i went a different route, i bought a $80,000 truck now only worth about $5000 because i beat it up doing construction, but it only left me $700 for the boat because i had to buy a ton of $5 snoopy reels and poles since a musky ripped my penn reel off my penn pole. We can laugh at my $700 boat but it is riveted tempered aluminum, no weld and tanks dead heads when dragged by the lochness monster. Technically my $700 boat and vintage $700 motor could cut most boats in half, so i feel pretty confident when boating around other boats.

      On another note, if you ever come to illinois, hit me up and i'll try my best to get you hooked up. These fish aren't playing games down here, i got muskie poles that are just defeated, even had screws shot out my penn 209 level wind reel from strikes. It is getting cold out now so i don't think they'll bite so aggressive as no heat to go lay and digest in more rapidly, but there is a chance they'd plow a swan sized lure on top dipped in chicken blood for a hibernation meal. No promises on that this fall, but i certainly know some spots. If it was warmer out, i'd say within 2 weeks one of them behemoths would strike, as they feed more often in the heat.
      Also to add, just so you know. I am not talking about a 50" musky, i sat out there long enough to see one spear about a 40" pike out the water(gulped it like a minnow). Their main diet is swans in this lake, so they're abnormally large. When you hook up, the amount of force is absolutely unbelievable. Low drag and you get spooled in seconds. High drag and we're going for a uncontrolled boat ride through dead heads if hooked up close(provided you are braced when it strikes or if the reel doesn't get ripped off the pole or the pole itself doesn't explode and break your hand). Now what i mean by get spooled, say we go catch a 10 lb carp and we use a 2 liter soda bottle for a bobber with a glow stick taped to it. Understand that when this bobber takes off, it will be over 300 yards away in about 4 seconds if its straight cruising and feeding on schools. So pretty much expect to get gear utterly destroyed if one of the behemoths hits it. There is also a chance that a big catfish might slam it too and they're even more aggressive with running into tree's. Generally the muskie will want to run into the grass and that is my way of determining what i hooked though i can never them up to see.
      Currently i know as about 3 weeks ago the giant catfish from the peoria lock and dam was up feeding on the north end of peoria lake. I know that because i was walleye fishing and i could see the swirls. Every once in awhile hear a tail slap top running schools. When they slap top it sounds like there is a 500 lb beaver out there or somebody is lighting off stadium boomers its so loud. I trotline that area often and got smart after my trotline vanished in front of me. I watched my jugs take off, go under and never found them. So now i lead line my trotline to the bank and the clips just get ripped off the main line. I am saving up for a marlin tournament setup and see if they can destroy it. These fish are just insanely powerful.
