- After discovering some rusty holes in the engine bay I decided to completely remove the engine harness. To get to the harness I'll be removing the dash and heater core too. Beach Jeep just got deeper!

Dan, I love your content. It’s top notch for my demographic. I hope this video gets into how I get the mouse out from behind the glovebox / blower motor. I’m pretty sure I fried him? He chewed wires and got the electric chair for it, then mulched by the fan. It smells like burned hair and rat shit filling up the cabin, with the occasional puff of melted plastic smoke. Given the negative temperatures this January in Michigan, along with the wind chills, putting the windows down for more than a few moments for fresh air isn’t an option. If anyone saw Grumpy Old Men when Jack Lemon puts a dead fish in Walter’s car…. The facial expression he made - that’s me whenever I get behind the wheel. Even my poor dog is disgusted. There’s a blizzard outside right now in Michigan. This is gonna suck. I feel like quitting on this XJ, but the 4WD can’t be beat in these drifts, and I don’t want to be beaten by a rodent or social collapse. Anyone with a good related content link, please post it. I don’t want to do more harm than good around the airbag and firewall. Happy New Year!

This is crazy how you just posted this! My heater core just crapped out on me in Walmart parking lot in Riverhead this past Saturday. I just ordered the parts from rock auto they should be here Thursday.That’s crazy
That is nuts! I bet half the Cherokees still out there are in need of a heater core!
About those frozen bolts to break if you just tighten them a little bit gently and they generally all come out I used to break every bolt by loosening it when it was stuck and I learned to snug it up a little and then close to that they generally all come out give it a shot let me know

Another great and for me at least, timely video. We have a 2001 XJ that has been in the family for 12 years and my son just returned it to me after sitting the last 2 years. It is my new/old project that I'm doing a complete teardown & rebuild. After removing doors, all the interior parts, seats, trim, carpeting etc. Was wondering if removing the dash was worth the hassle. Your video just showed me the juice is worth the squeeze. Thanks!

Do you have a method to keep up with all the Fasteners and bolts or have you just done it so many times that you just remember? Great video thank you
I used to be very precise with the fasteners. I would draw a sketch on cardboard and tape on the nuts or punch the bolts through.. or just return them to their spot as soon as the part was off. now I just Chuck em in a jar cuz I memorized where they go. Lol. I probably shouldn't be as carless especially cuz I film myself now. I appreciate the great question! Thank you
I doubt you still read new comments from a video 2 years ago, but would love to see you detail drilling out the seat bolts that break... drivers side for me. Its a Missouri XJ, so down here in FL I see them in the junkyards all the time and none of the bolts are rusty and come right out... Now I have spares but need to drill, tap hole.

I got another jeep! It's all rusted out though, and it sat outside in the weather for a while, and a rat chewed some wires in the dash, so now my gauges don't light up, and my obdII doesn't work. I have a perfectly good dash from the 2001 Lazarus Cherokee, do you think it will be an issue swapping it over into the 99? It may or may not solve my issue, but it would be worth a shot. I think it will work, but I wanted to ask you to be sure. I can't quite start on the Land Rover Offender, just yet, I need to get 3 cars off my lot first, I'm driving my family nuts. In the mean time, I found myself this little red cherokee, it has a 3.5" lift, 30" tires, sweet front bumper and a rebuilt head, and four wheel drive! It has everything my Lazarus jeep didn't have - a lift, big tires, breather lines, electrical problems, rust, 4x4, LED headlights, windshield wipers, 35,000 less miles, and didn't have what lazarus had - nearly perfect interior, clean carpet, green plaid headliner, home-made leather sun-visors and steering wheel, air-conditioning, silicone coolant hoses and vacuum lines, non-rusty gas line, rebuilt air box (I used pipe insulation foam to make new HVAC gaskets - it worked awesome!
Wow man that's awesome sounds like you got a great pre-project! Off the top of my head I can't see a reason why a 01 in a 99 dash wouldn't work. Only one way to find out... Go for it!

Hey Dan H I am looking to just remove a rear fender flares and reinstall is there a way without taking the bolts out cause they just break
nope! every single XJ fender flair retainer clip is seized on with rusty bolts and they WILL snap every time 😂.
your gonna have to pry down the wheel well lining and spray some penetrating oil on every single stud. for like a week! then you'll need to scrub the threads as clean As possible with a wire brush. once your lubed and cleaned you can gently work each nut lose with a 10mm ratcheting socket (that tool works the best) You don't have to remove the clips completely. just loosen them enough wiggle the flair our. if your lucky only 1 will brake 😂. make sure you go to church before you try and eat all your vegetables and say your prayers. God speed friend. let me know how you do.
Where did you get your new wiring harness ???? And is it the same as a 1988 mj???
I got everything from parts cars. 88s are completely different
At 2:17 in your video, what do those two plugs go to?
The engine harness connects through the firewall to the dash harness, above that it goes to the windshield wiper, then on the other side of the brake booster it connects through to the body harness
@@ProjectDanH Right. I am doing a manual swap, and only one of the connections that go through the firewall fit onto the dash harness... I think one of them (the larger one that fits) is ignition stuff, but don't know what the smaller connections are for. Thanks for your reply man! You put out great content.

Why switch to NP231 over NP242? Just wondering...
the 231 is more robust for off-roading
@@outrider212 ok, but the NP242 (in my 94 XJ) used the ABS for traction control in the front. I also had limited slip in the back so Part time was basically all 4 turning. It was a beast.
The 242 4wd system is better for what I believe is considered the more casual off roading. The 231, afaik, is less complex and thus less likely to fail in the more technical off roading, i.e. heavy rock crawling and such. The 242, in my opinion, is a better option for DD's and more varied terrain.
NP231 is more durable for off road use

Project Dan H Everything I see on how to replace the heater core is so involved, intense, and intimidating!!! 🤯 Joe said we could do it, but my thumb is still out of commission. Probably will be for months. 👎☹️ So not sure what we’re going to do. Too bad you’re not closer 😄
@@GoatOffroad I'm with you guys in spirit! Just go for it! It's a great way to get to know your Jeep. They come apart so easy you'll be done before you know it! Just get a huge pickle jar for all the screws and film everything so you know how to put it all back together! Before you start you should go to a shop and have a mechanic empty your AC system. This way it won't poison your garage, and you can change the AC evaporator too while your inside the heater core box.
Project Dan H - Absolutely going to change AC Evaporator while in there. And yes, filming everything so we can use it as reference when putting it back together 😜 I’m nervous but it should be fun. 🤪🤯🤞 Thanks for the confidence in me ☺️🥰

Ahhh CC! Could be a vacuum leak too! Sometimes the brake pedal will also disengage the CC.. make sure the brake pedal cancel is not triggered
