    The supremes were great no doubt about that but I hate these interviews because they totally ignore the fact that it was Martha Reeves , Mary Wells ànd the Marvelous Marvelettes that kept things going until the Supremes the tempts and the four tops hit the charts yet it is rare that Gordy credits them

      @@ruthavery8245 Not true. Berry disrespected everybody and stole from everybody. Read Glady's Knight's autobiography? When Diane left Motown she only had $20,000 in her bank account and she did not blow her money either. Remember when he bought Diane a Rolls Royce or so he said he did. When Diane told him she was leaving Motown he told her if you want to keep your Rolls Royce you have to make the payments on it. The dirt bag leased it. And there will always be speculation at least with Flo's sister Maxine that she believed Berry murdered Flo because she had much dirt on him. Read Maxine's book about her sister Florence. Berry might have been a business man but was also a crooked business man and a snake in the grass. Did he do a lot for the African American community? Yes he did. But he treated his talent miserably and unfairly. Terrible man.

      Is your information fact, rumored or taken from those who may be bitter over their failed success and his massive success. $20,000.00 in Diana Ross' bank account could have been checking and $20,000,000.00 could have been in her savings; when Flo was fired from the Supremes, it was Diana Ross who offered several times to pay her mortgage, but Flo refused her.I'm curious to know how Gladys Knight would know the amount of money in anyone's account, let alone, Diana Ross', considering that according to articles I've read, the two weren't exactly friends.The point is, Berry Gordy had no obligation to any Artist; this was business, pure, plain and simple, not to mention, it is the entertainment business, which is a whole 'nother breed of cut throat, if you're unfamiliar with it.This man gave these Artist a chance, an opportunity, a shot; he's not obligated to hold their hand, wipe their mouths nor their ass, yet, he took care of his Artist far better and greater than any other label that has ever existed; he taught them how to sing, dance, dress, conduct interviews and prepped them for the world stage.He made them stars, Legends, Hall of Famers and Icons who can go out on any stage today, in their 60's, 70's and 80's to sell out crowds and wow their audience, and that you just can't put a price on.

    “You were born where you were born and faced the future that you faced because you were Black and for no other reason. The limits of your ambition were, thus, expected to be set forever. You were born into a society which spelled out with brutal clarity, and in as many ways as possible, that you were a worthless human being. You were not expected to aspire to excellence: you were expected to make peace with mediocrity.”

    No record label has given me more listening pleasure than Motown Records. I especially applaud this label for putting out a number of fantastic "socially conscious" records even though that was considered a commercial risk at first. Motown did not shy away from potentially controversial topics in their songs. Here are bit a few examples: a man dealing with his feminist girlfriend: "Girl You Need a Change of Mind Pt. 1 and 2; child- birth out of wed-lock, "Love Child"; the tragic consequences of war, "What's Going On" and "War"; street crime, "Take a Look Around"; drug abuse and addiction "Cloud 9", irresponsible fathers, "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"; scammers, cheaters, and and liars, "Smiling Faces Sometimes"; economic and racial upheaval "Ball of Confusion"; gay pride, "I Was Born This Way" and "Everybody's Gay in L.A.",; and even the environment, "Mercy Mercy Me". And there were many other as well. BRAVO!!

    Berry Gordy gained wealth off of the backs of many young black artist who did not know the financial side of the business. Many of them later sued Motown for royalties. He favored certain artist over others, but they all were probably victims of royalties being stolen from them. This is the darker side of the business, the GREED of the industry.

Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Temptations and so many more are still around and are stable with there networth.
      A lot of artists were paid unequally this is a fact but you can't put a price on fame and not be smart about your money and the music that was produced will last the test of time as golden oldies, a lot of artists thought the money would be coming in forever, until you're able to save and buy out your royalties.

    It was the Marvelettes who created the Motown Sound. The Supremes, Temptations, Four-Tops, etc,, could not figure it out. The Marvelettes signed with Motown, then immediately mysteriously left secretly to take lessons to learn how to sing. They later came back with the "Mr. Postman" hit that the Supremes, Temptations, Four-Tops, etc., copied or modeled their hits after! And, Gladys Horton complained that the Marvellettes was disrespected and ignored by Berry Gordy in the end!

      BUT IT WORKED.

    • @jamesalford756
      @jamesalford756 4 роки тому +4

      Selling Motown was necessary due to the shifting of the music industry that came about with the emergence of Rap and music videos. Singers, songwriters and groups were not marketable nor profitable from 1984 to 1997, and the cost of videos before Michael Jackson began doing mini movies was $100,000.00, in 1984 dollars, so independent record companies could not compete with the cash surplus of the major record labels, i.e., CBS/Epic/Sony, Warner Bros., MCA/Universal and decided to sell while there was a chance to collect high dividends. Not just Motown, but A&M, Atlantic, Capitol, RCA and many others sold and kept their publishing divisions, which Berry Gordy wound up selling as well to Universal Music Group. People often ask "What happened to music?" That answer is, "There is no record companies that govern the releases nor how an act present themselves; all of us who are old enough to know, Motown, A&M and those like them would've never allowed an Artist to record, let alone release a song that referred to women as "Bitches" and "Ho's".

    Did the play include the scenes where Berry Gordy was ripping off the artists left right front and center? And what about his scenes with the ever conniving wicked witch Dirty Diana? oh I suppose those scenes can only be shown on pornhub and x-rated video websites.

      Punkanelly Lovejoy, LMFAO, I see you're still BITTER and TWISTED and STILL JEALOUS of Miss Diana Ross just because she's a PIONEER, TRAILBLAZER and GLOBAL PHENOMENON and Mary Wilson isn't lol!!!. It must REALLY IRRITATE you that no matter what you do or say, NOTHING will EVER change that lol!!!.

      @@TheDiana1 no no Nanette, I'm not jealous or bitter that Miss Ross is a "trail blazing global phenomenon". Just a bit pissed off that I was ignorant and in the dark for so long (while buying some of her solo records) regarding who was actually behind that fake image that she portrays. Had I known it was a low down, back stabbing, boss-fucking, selfish, unprofessional, on-stage-tantrum-throwing, corpse-upstaging bastard-breeding-bitch, I would have never bought a single one. But Dirty Diana has been paying dearly for her deception. Wicked witch hasn't had a major hit in nearly 40 years. Jealous? Darling I'm "jealous" of Whitney Houston and Phyllis Hyman: singers who can convey with their voices what Miss Ross tries to convey with glamorous costumes and furs. Capiche?

      Punkanelly Lovejoy, Miss Diana Ross has won more awards and has more achievements than any other female you care to mention lol!!!. At 76 years young, she;s STILL playing to sold-out concerts ALL OVER THE WORLD and she's recently had 2 NUMBER 1 hits on Billboard Dance Charts and will have another one soon with dance remixes of some of her number 1 singles lol!!!. You look about 12 on your pic so you don't know SHIT about what happened in the 60's or 70's for that matter lol!!!. When you REALLY do your research into the Supremes, you will clearly see that without Miss Diana Ross there would NEVER have been The Supremes!!!. On some of the albums it's not even Mary and Flo it's the voices of The Andante Sisters because Mary and Flo couldn't be bothered turning up to the studio as they thought they were Superstars!!!. Wilson wrote a "piece of shit" to MAKE MONEY and even Cindy who WAS THERE in the group said that although some things in the group did happen, Wilson had GROSSLY EXAGGERATED them simply to make more money!!!. All you're going on is INNUENDO and HEARSAY and you have NO PROOF of ANYTHING LMFAO!!!. Has Miss Ross EVER said or written anything about anything that's been said about her over the years.........NO and unlike YOU and WILSON..........THAT'S CLASS!!!. Finally, i leave you with someone you seem to idolize and HER WORDS and NOT MINE!!!. On the Arsenio Hall show, (look it up on youtube it's on here) someone said and i quote, "Diana Ross set a pathway for all other Afro American female entertainers to walk through". That was said by the late, great WHITNEY HOUSTON and she knew more than you could EVER KNOW!!!.
