    I just stayed here for my first bothy stay the other night with a mate and it was great we met a man and his dog and it was warm with the fire on, the big saw is the best and you can use the shovel to split wood if you saw a line into it abit, always leave some wood when you leave ! I never knew the history of the bothy before staying so it’s great that it was my first as well as the mba’s back in the 60s

    Nice one, Robin, though it looked hard going underfoot. Thanks to Dr Beeching closing down all the railways in the 1960s, Galloway is one of the few parts of Scotland I've never been to, as I also can't drive. Nice looking bothy - and I'd never heard the story of how it all began there!

      @WalkWithWallace  Рік тому +1

      Cheers Paul. Bagging these Corbetts I've become used to pathless terrain. Hard going at times until you get a bit further up where the turf is more clipped. Is not the easiest places to get, even driving from Edinburgh.

    There is something lovely about the Galloway hills... just can't put my finger on it. Would love to explore this particular area, mind you doing a loop on the dungeon hills and lochs last September nearly destroyed me with that boggy relentlessly tussocky terrain, forgiving it is not! Shame Culsharg bothy is in such a state.

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace  Рік тому +1

      I know what you mean, and they're different and more interesting than the Borders hills. The terrain is more akin too the Highlands. Is that the bothy near the Merrick? If so it's a bit too close to the road.

    That was a nice wee trip down memory lane. I didn't know it was the spiritual start / heart of the MBA but know it was the first bothy I ever stayed in.
    It looks like it had a wee bit of TLC since I was there but even at that it was still in a good state a few years ago. I might get Sid back out for a wee trip back again.
