- I love bothies.
Bothies are a great alternative to wild camping every now and then, and increasingly in our modern world places that exist on the kindness and hard work of strangers are few and far between.
Bothies are the exception.
There are few purpose built bothies in the UK, most are re-purposed shepherds cottages or old farmhouses and in staying in one it is easy to imagine times past.
We explored four bothies on our trip, Greensykes, Dryfehead, Overphawhope and Brattleburn but there are many more, even just in this corner of Scotland.
That's the great thing with exploring bothies: I will run out before they do.
I hope you enjoy the video and thank you for watching.
Graham

Thank you very much! I really enjoyed this trip and hope to do similar mini adventures in future. ATB, G 👍
Magic ! The first bothy looked better than some holiday cottages we've rented 😃👍🏼
It does have that garden cottage look about it doesn’t it? Some smashing bothies in that area. TFW, Graham 👍
Nice one again mate ,looked a canny adventure, belta those bothies , that dream though mate wtf you need to leave the lidl cheese alone 😂, cracking , thanks for sharing Graham ,atvb Deka 👍🏻👊🏻😁
Haha, thanks mate, but those cheese dreams are one of the good things about sleeping out 😂 Hope you’re recuperating well, ATB marra 👍
That was quite a beer dream🤣🤣
I do have some very odd dreams when I’m out and about 😂
Thankyou very much, I really enjoyed watching your video. Thanks guys.👍
Thank you, it’s great to hear you enjoy watching the little videos we put out. Encourages me to keep going! Hoping to do a bothy trip to Rum soon. ATB, Graham 👍👍
A nice tour of the bothies Graham , makes a change from battling wind and rain in a tent 😂
For sure! It’s a nice alternative now and again. They’ve all got their own character, ATB 👍👍
Another top class vid mate.... love a good bothy and you found four beltaz. Packed with loads of great history loved it..... your dream was mental 🤣🤣🤣 top class mate really enjoyed that ATB Simon
Thanks Simon, appreciate that. I often feel that we’re lucky in Northumberland with the bothies we have as well ATB mate, Graham 👍
Brilliant, you deserve more subscribers
Thank you, that means a lot, and it’s much appreciated👍
It's great to see brattleburn cleaned up, myself and 1 other were there 19th Feb, got caught in some bad weather, that fire kicks out some amount of heat! Had a good chuckle seeing that branch in the opening shot. Dragging that monster down out of the forest at the top of the hill and across the stream is an episode I'll remember for years to come.
Great video
Ah, you were responsible for the tree/ utensil stand: great feature!
Bothy was really tidy and well kept, we were very glad of it. Lovely and toasty in that right hand room. Very nice little bothy.
ATB, Graham 👍👍
Absolutely wonderful footage!
Thank you! 👍👍
Great video Graham, some brilliant views on the way into some of those bothies wouldn't mind trying some of them for a camp.👍👍
Thank you, they’re worth exploring, plenty in Northumberland as well! ATB, Graham 👍👍
Great video Graham, I've never stayed in a Bothy (Unless you count a Military FIBUA building?) I love the diversity in your videos mate, always something different. Thanks for sharing the upload.
Thank you, appreciate it. Bothies are a great alternative to camping sometimes, ATB, Graham 👍
P.s. what’s a FIBUA building?

Looks like yous had a cracking time away Graham definitely great looking Bothys on this one and as always really enjoyed the history and storytelling atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Thanks Jimmy , I enjoyed getting away for a few days. And this will tickle you: I met a guy in one of the bothies who said he doesn’t watch much UA-cam but he does watch Lundy- I said ‘I know him’ 😂 You’re famous mate!
@@grahamswildcamping 🤣🤣🤣 pmsl Well I never hope you told him you were my mate that's mad that like 🤣🤣
Great video. Thus bothy looks great
Thank you, it’s a cracking little Bothy for sure!
Im glad my book I Ieft in February I still there, the one about Roman generals. And the two axes where left by two Liverpool lads who I shared the bothy with at dryfehead.
I have to say, I’m always pleased to find a book in a bothy. Having a read through by a warming stove in candlelight- magic!
ATB, Graham 👍👍
Cracking video Graham and interesting cuisine. 😂😂😂
Thank you very much, I’ve eaten better, but I’ve eaten worse! ATB, Graham 👍

Great video!! As someone who popped her bothy cherry last night (Green Bothy), I now have the bothy bug and want to stay in them all 😂. Have subscribed so I don't miss any of your vids. 😁
Thank you, that’s great! I’ve had some good nights at Green Bothy. I’ve got the bothy bug too, we’re lucky to have a few in Northumberland and loads in the Scottish Borders. Many thanks for the subscription, ATB, Graham 👍👍
Lovely, lovely content! I felt like I was discovering the bothy’s with you guys. Thank you Graham. I have my notifications turned on so I don’t miss anything that you upload. Crackin’ sense of humor, you drew me in with your very early videos and they just keep getting better. Loved the poo spade bit. Noodles go in and they must come out. ✌️ brother.
Thank you so much! I don’t get a lot of views but it’s fantastic knowing that some folk really enjoy the videos- very humbling.
Ah, yes, the bothy spade, an essential bit of kit at most bothies 😂 best wishes, Graham 👍👍🤘
You where sharp spotting that Video,it made a gr8 Bothy.😂
Haha, I still get my words mixed up on camera sometimes- naturally shy! Cheers Daz 👍👍

Yeah, I really enjoyed this little adventure, doing it by bike would be great 👍👍
Hi Graham, nice exploration of the bothys that are so near, a big walk back to the car for the third camp via the car,
we will have to do our multi night camp ? Suggestions?
Cheers Adrian
Plenty to explore round the Kielder area for a multi day camp but couldn’t do it before October
Great craic meeting yourself and your fellow canny lads Graham, was a shame that we had to dash off so early.
Hope you and the lads had a brilliant trip!
Love the channel, lots of great wee adventures with some cracking tips and tricks for both new folk to the outdoors and fellow seasoned pros.
Will give you a wee plug on air on Monday night coming up 👌👍
Cheers Kris, it was smashing to meet yourself and Blair. Hope you enjoyed the craic. Thank you for the little plug- much appreciated! Been checking out the Black Diamond FM website- gonna give Night Cafe a listen from now on 👍 Thanks for your kind words about the channel, ATB, Graham 👍👍
@@grahamswildcamping Hi Graham, not a problem at all, I know a lot of my listeners are keen outdoorsmen and women who'll love what you do.
I've had to do a pre-record but believe you me it's worth tuning in, not just for talking about your good self and your channel but also a special something for the lads (a karaoke favourite of Sean's).
Top man Graham! Keep in touch pal!
Best
Kris
@The.Dulcet.Toned.Scotsman Ah, cheers Kris that’s great. I gave your show a little mention on the video. Look forward to listening on Monday. I’ll tell Sean to listen: he’ll be tickled!
ATVB, Graham 👍👍
Thanks for the shout out Kris, it was great to hear this little channel mentioned on your Night Cafe. Great show btw 👍
@@grahamswildcamping you're more than welcome mate! The more people that can learn about and start enjoying the great outdoors the better 🤟👌👍
Really enjoyed this one Graham. I've not had a bothy as yet but need to try it soon.
Thank you. I find exploring bothies fascinating and we’re pretty well served in Northumberland, some great bothies about. I always carry a tent just in case though! ATB, Graham 👍
I always enjoy your videos, I'd love to tour those bothys but need a helicopter lol, meanwhile I can vicariously enjoy your roving adventures.
I noticed that you used the word "spate" in describing the rivers state, I've noticed over the years how much dumber spoken english has become, my son reckons its because people read less books & I tend to to agree with his assessment.
I've read novels written in the 19th century & the english is thick as treacle, but very enjoyable when you get into it. Modern technology seems to have aided this decline, people seem to read less.
Indeed stupidity is practically touted as a virtue in the present day.
Anyway great video, thanks for sharing it !
Hi Shaun, you might not need a helicopter, some of the bothies were surprisingly easy to get to. Over phawhope was only a mile or so down an easy track. I tend to agree about people reading less, reading was massive for me as a kid and now I work with people who, shockingly to me, have never read a book! I occasionally feature a book I’ve been reading in a video. Interesting observation and thank you for taking time to comment. ATVB, Graham
@grahamswildcamping yes it shows in your vocabulary & I enjoy some of the poetical material you share, I'm not all that well educated but picked up a lot of things in fictional literature, words themselves paint pictures & your own mind fills the blanks, better than the telly!
Hey what's going own with the dreams? Too many cheese sandwiches at bedtime ? Lol!
Thanks again, one day I must vist Northumberland.
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say. As for the dreams? They’re bonkers! I have the craziest dreams when wild camping!
Preferred 1st bothy but then again the 2nd bothy had more character.
After that dream. I think you woke up and it was a pie in your rucksack tugging its way to your mouth lol...
3rd bothy looked good. Nice noodle scram.
4th bothy my least fav looking inside. Nothing Wong about Chinese noodles.
Good 4 day walk. Treat yourself to a full fried breakfast not McDonalds shite.
I liked all the bothies, but the second, Dryfehead, had more character, as you say: I think that edges it out as my favourite. You know what? You're right about the breakfast. I think I'll seek out a proper brekky next time. ATB, Graham 👍👍
