this is so great--i smiled so hard when i saw the women exiting the courthouse! i've walked over this overpass so many times without really thinking about it. i loved the archival footage as well.
This video brings to light the remarkable story of an awe-inspiring testament to the power of community and courage. Also, It truly emphasizes that meaningful change can often start from a community's brave stand for what is right.
I found some of the historical documents when I worked at Ray-Cam Community Centre. It was an amazing find and I learnt about my neighbourhoods amazingly strong Women and this advocacy! This led me to the work I do to present day. Thank you Militant Moms! 🥰
great little piece, I came across your work during research & Interview with labour activist Joey Hartman. Glad to know this bit of Van history will not be lost
My mom was part of this. So I don't know how much this has to do with "Black Strathcona", as it about Mom's just not taking the BS of big corporations. Sure there were people that were black, but also chinese, aboriginal, and Caucasian. It wasn't about race but safety.
That's my grandma rocking the peace sign coming out of court!
