Hey David. I started watching you back in 07 or 08, and I was just a little kid back then. I watched you at my local library almost everyday because they had better computers than my house did. After a while, I don't know what happened, but I stopped watching. I think it was two years ago, and a friend of mine received an ocarina for Christmas. One of the super bad OoT replicas. Last September, I was sitting in his room and saw it sitting on the table. I don't know why, but I picked it up and said "I'm going to learn this." Now I have my own ocarinas, and I'm intermediate with the instrument. When I started playing on that poorly tuned chunk of clay, I remembered a word from nearly ten years ago. "Octalk." So I looked it up, and I discovered that you were still uploading. Over the past few months, you've been my teacher and mentor on my journey with the ocarina. I truly couldn't have reached where I am without your lessons, and your guidance, and I can't thank you enough for that. I have a similar goal to the one you used to have, sharing the ocarina with anyone I can. Thank you again for being my teacher, and making my delve into music that much better. I'm looking forward to making music with you one day.
You know that is the best advice a mom could give. Instead of scolding you for spending all that money she encouraged you to share your passion and love for the instrument to as many people as you could! That is lovely and I wish I picked up something like that and had that encouragement c:
I got into the ocarina because of watching you David. I love your content and I hope to get better at the ocarina as time goes by. You are an amazing inspiration to so many people, and I hope you continue to be successful.
Dude, same here. I was always into the ocarina and I always wanted to have one on my own. It wasn't until I discovered David that I did everything I could to get my hands on one.
I was 12 when I first saw the ocarina, my friend was playing Majora’s mask at the time I found it very interesting but I never thought that after 10 years it would be my hobby and passion. It was about 9 months ago when I accidentally clicked a video by you David and heard the sound of an ocarina. After that I said to myself, hmm this sounds pretty interesting! I could at least try one. I bought the Night by noble ocarina and realised something. This is so much fun! I want to start this as a hobby! I kept this as a secret from my family and after 2 weeks of practicing I could play the ocarina without squeaking and that evening I showed it to my father and he loved it. My mother, sister, grandparents all of my friends loved that I started such a unique hobby. My main ocarina is the Stl Water ocarina. Stl Ice ocarina is my main tenor model and I ordered the Stl Air ocarina last week. When it arrives in my mailbox it’ll become my main soprano model. Alto, tenor and soprano are the three ranges I want to have. Music has always been my passion. I love singing, every thursday my neighbour town has a karaoke day in the library and I go to there every single week. My opening song is always ”Nousevan auringon talo” wich is a finnish version of ”House of the rising sun”. I’m finnish but most of the time I like singing in english because it’s more fun and it helps me articulate my singing better. I also have my own special tecnique. While singing a song I think about nostalgic memories and my mother. This helps at making my voice feel more alive and happy, it works every single time.
I started the ocarina because it felt easier to play than any other instruments. And thanks to you, I'm able to get something out of these little things!
And we are so lucky that you found the ocarina! Thank you for sticking to it and for just being so awesome at it. 👍🏼 You’ve inspired me to learn the ocarina now. 🥺
David Erick Ramos - Ocarina, you inspired me to get an ocarina for myself, and I love it, I even went as far as to buy a triple ocarina to be able to have the extended range it gives, thank you for deciding to do this, and keep being amazing!
Your story is such a beautiful one, almost like a love story! OMG! I downloaded your new EP "Ocarina Road" on Apple Tunes and can't stop listening to your songs! I love the guitar and ocarina combination!
I have also just downloaded your album "Leave Luck To Heaven". My fave songs in your EP "Ocarina Road" are "Ocarina Road", "In Loving Memory" (I love the ukulele and Ocatina combi in this song!) and "Ten Years (Caravan)"!
David, You are an inspiration to my students and to the ocarina community. Your passion for the ocarina will pave way to the future of this instrument in the US. There are already a few ocarina programs in schools popping up, that engage students in music, and help to inspire young musicians. I hope to be part of this movement and whatever way I can. I love hearing your story! You are an awesome mentor and friend, Nicolas
I already told you how i found out the ocarina is real, but i'll write it down here anyway ;) When the 3DS remake of ocarina of time was announced i placed a preorder at my usual game shop, and it said it comes with an ocarina as preorder goodie. After i saw that, i was really curious and didn't want to wait for the game to be released (which was still quite far away), so i went to google and searched where i could buy one. I was really that my first search result was one of the few (if not the only one back then) good Zelda replica ocarinas, the one made by Hans Rotter. If i had bought a cheap knockoff or not bought one at all and tried the plastic ocarina that came with the game (it sounds horrible), i probably would immediately have stopped playing.
I got into the ocarina in almost the same way and age! I got it because of the legend of zelda and i got it at age 13 (im 15 right now btw). Love your vids!
I first discovered the ocarina from Zelda then wanted to know if it was a legit instrument so I searched it up on UA-cam and that's where I discovered you!! I absolutely loved your work and would ALWAYS listen to you music. I remember I use to repeatedly play you cover of Eponas Song. Over and over. I was in love with it. I want to say you've inspired me to play the ocarina but I don't have one yet NOOOOOOO!! But it IS because of you that I want to play. Your videos always make me happy! Thank you so much for that and I hope you continue doing what you do for many years to come!
I remember i was at my aunts home, like in 2006 i was around 11 and i found your song of time video and i was so amazed, i didnt know ocarinas were actually real so i wanted one for years and years. eventually i bought a plastic 6 hole ocarina and practiced alot hoping one day i would get to your level so i bought a knock off oot and after that i stopped playing for years... now im 21 almost 22 and i just ordered an stl oot and it will be delivered tomorrow cant wait to continue my ocarina journey and its all thanks to you! thanks David. p.s sorry for the long boring story
David, thank you so much for inspiring me, and the rest of us as well! I go around telling people that I'm self-taught, but in actuality, I'd be nowhere without you. People have told me that I'm a great ocarinist, and that's all very well, but without your tutorials and covers, I would have never gotten where I am today, and I owe a big part of that to you. I've been able to inspire people and help them learn because you did the same thing for me, and all of the other wonderful ocarinists out there today. The ocarina is one of the most important things in my life, (right below religion, family, and friends, of course) because of how much it's changed my life. So thank you for everything, so much.
I got to know about ocarina through a student of mine. She mentioned it and after our lesson I went online to find out more about it. Since then (2 months), i've been trying to teach myself to play, using your videos and a book. I've been playing almost everyday and I love it :)
I remember when i saw your ocarina video back in 2007, man i couldn't believe it, it was very impressive for me. And now your touring with your own music, congratulations david. You inspire me a lot. I'm south american fan, greetings from here!
i've also been a big fan of zelda for a very long time and I'm not quite sure what made me suddenly interested in the ocarina but i randomly started googling about ocarinas and I came across your videos! after i listened to your covers I got totally hooked and basically bribed my mom to help me order one online :) and now I watch your tutorial videos (which are super helpful thank uu!) and am having a great time playing ocarina :D
I got into the ocarina in the 11th grade, a friend of mine brought his to school one day, and having been a legend of Zelda fan since I was a child, I was astonished to find out someone actually had a real physical ocarina. That was the thing that originally sent me to your channel, where i felt like i entered an inexplored world of music, and that world had a guide, and that guide was you. It was lile you broight to the surface this amazing instrument that before was mainly thought of only when a videogame was mentioned. I became inspired to action, and because I didn't have any income in high school, I had only one option, to make an ocarina. Armed with a few images from the internet, a basic understanding of how clay works, and a hopeful spirit, I approached the ceramics teacher who id neber met before, and soon afterwards I had made one of my favorite and cherished works. It was an 8 hole English pendant ocarina in the shape of a turtle. What's even more interesting, this video came out on my birthday. You're an inspiration. To have seen your channel grow so much over the years is awesome too. Keep being fantastic David!
I've been watching this channel grow for quite a long time. You inspired me to get my first ocarina in the 7th grade, it was a baby dragontooth and it was amazing to play for friends and family. Played all the way to now as an adult (it's pretty crazy xD). I loved teaching others to play and I still do and this wouldn't be possible without you so thank you so so much David. Please keep making videos because you never know who's life you're changing, you're truly a blessing
I found out about the Ocarina through Zelda, I first played OoT in the early 2000's through the Zelda collector's disc on Gamecube. Once I was able to get online (because I never grew up with internet or a computer) I happened to find your videos and found out it was a real instrument. I ordered an ocarina from songbird ocarinas based on suggestions by you. You really shaped my love of the instrument. I would have kept playing but my home situation was not encouraging to a musical instrument. If I can ever move away from this place the first thing I plan to do is start learning the ocarina again. And when I do start learning I would happily purchase your book. You did a lot to expand my knowledge of this beautiful instrument and show everyone, show the world, that it's more than a zelda lover's collector's item. It's an instrument to be enjoyed and celebrated.
Hey David My first ocarina purchase was impulse. I was buying violin music books for my son and saw this funny looking beige ceramic thing with 6 holes on it. I was told it was an ocarina flute. It wasnt expensive, so i bought it too. I learned how to play Happy Birthday on it; 7 months later i bought the purple clay triple bass. Love the deep soothing tones it creates and Im improving with the help of your vids.... thanks for sharing!
He's alive! Hey David I'm new to your channel, I've read a lot of comments of people saying you are the reason they started playing, although I had my eye on ocarinas before I found you, you really helped cement my excitement about learning to play it, you showed me how amazing ocarinas can sound with enough practice, I've currently had my ocarina for a little less than a month now and I can't wait to be able to eventually play more complex songs and tunes, your tutorial videos have helped me be better than what I could've been if I were to have just bought and ocarina and tried to teach myself,
Touching story David I got my first ocarina today and I thank u for giving me the interest to play and I am 14 and love Zelda so I got a 12 hole replic thank u again. I discovered the ocarina by Zelda and by u thank u so much u rock.
2:36 I know exactly how you feel dude! Believe me! I've been in that place before. The very first ocarina my dad got me was a ceramic 12 hole. I pulled it out, and wham!! It slipped out of my hands and shattered. I was devistated too. So, after that, my dad got me another ceramic 12 hole, and the plastic 7 hole kokiri edition, which was a great idea on my behalf. And if my ceramic one breaks, at least I still have the plastic 7 hole kokiri edition. So, That was a very smart idea for me to get the 7 hole kokiri edition.
i used to play the trumpet, in highschool. but i stopped playing all together. 12 years later i realized what a mistake to just drop music cold turkey. so instead of buying an expensive trumpet again , i purchased the ocarina to practice and relearn. your videos are awesome, they got me reading sheet music again
I honestly had you on the radar since that first video you uploaded. I wasn't aware that the ocarina was actually real, and one day with 16 years old I got myself a Songbird 12 hole AC OoT. Was the happiest kid in the world, I was prancing around with it along with my guitar, back in the day I was really into music. That changed when my father hired a cleaning lady who dropped the ocarina 2 years later... I was devastated too. I didn't have money to afford another one since, until recently, nearly 10 years later, when my mother gifted me one of the OoTs that are bombing in aliexpress and the like. It's a bit off tone and stuff, but as soon as I unpacked it, I had the biggest smile on my face :) I came by to watch and refresh myself with your vids, keep the good work david
I actually discovered ocarina through the Pokémon Movie: 2000, where Melody plays Lugia´s song on it. And when I discovered you channel and your How to play ocarina lessons, I said to myself, that it would be nice to learn playing ocarina as another instrument next to my piano. And here I am, thanking you for everything you are doing and helping me, David. :-) Greetings from Czech republic!
Hi David! I remember your first videos (even appeared in one christmass collab as "gigavoltx" from Panama). I purchased my first sweet potato ocarina from songbird 10 years ago because of your videos and I still play to this day. Incredibly I ended up playing in a local videogame cover band 3 years ago till present, where I play the ocarina and its so cool to share passion with other people, its just amazing. Makes me think that even things that look small in the moment could go very far with passion and determination! Thanks for sharing your passion David!
Awww, thank you for sharing! I work at a violin shop and also help people get into music, I think it’s really life-changing. I love the ocarina but am definitely struggling with my practice routine, as I have with all the instruments I play!
Thank you so much for helping me learn how to play the ocarina. The pointers you give are so helpful. I’m glad you told us your story, I got my first ocarina because of the Zelda game, and I learn a lot of gaming music mostly, and some Irish music on it. I’m so glad you shared with us again, thank you
I discovered the ocarina a year ago or so when i was starting to have a hard point in my life. i couldnt get anything fancy and still cant due to being poor as a matter of fact i still cant even play it well as i dont have a teacher. however its carrying me at this moment and this video came out just as i was thinking of giving up for good.
I love this channel, and i love the ocarina. you actually taught me how to play!! i had just gotten my first ocarina, (it was a 12 hole) abnd my cousin introduced me to your ocTalk series, and i coulsnt stop watching. now i can play songs by ear, and i recently hit a mile stone of learning how to play dragon roost island!! i learned that by ear as well which im really happy about. anyway, i love the ocarina, and it was you who got me here today, thank you David!!
I remember seeing that ocarina add in a nintendo magazine at my school a few years ago. I was mind blown because I didn't know they existed. I searched it up on youtube and bam your vid was the first one there. Ever since then I've been watching your awesome content. Keep up the good work bro! 💪👍
Thank you so much for doing what you do David you actually inspired me to buy my first ocarina and it will be here on Monday and I'm feeling the exact same feeling you felt. Thank you so much and keep being awesome and I hope one day I can play as well as you can! :)
I got interested in Ocarinas because of The Dark Crystal. The flute and pipes they used in the movie were wonderful to listen to. Especially Jen’s Y shaped flute.
Oddly enough, I discovered first the ocarina thanks to this channel and then I found out there was a whole world of Zelda games, including ocarina of time. So... yes, I can firmly say it's thank to David if I now know and play the ocarina.
David! I love music, and my cousin introduced me to the ocarina when I was 10 years old along wit Oot. In colombia there wasn't a specific place to get one. I came to the states and it was your videos that inspired me to finally get one, and learn to play it. If you are ever around Atlanta it would be awesome to see you!
i started playing the ocarina bcs i found your vids i loved how it sounds and being a zelda fan i thought why not and i bought this decent 12 hole ocarina online and i fell in love with this instrument so from with all honesty thanks for being awesome and showing the world what an incredible and beatifull instrument an ocarina can be :)
Nice to hear your story, I just ordered my first ocarina two days ago, the last years I found passion in making music, I am still an amateur but I love it. Just like your story I loved to play zelda the ocarina of time. And when I came across this instrument I decided to buy it and to learn..... I know very original. All the zelda songs 🎵 I would love to see more from you and see what I can learn. In the end I play music during ceremonies with plantmedicine and I guess some will love to hear one zelda forest song coming through, but just one and not more haha. Thanks for this video
I enjoy all of your ocarina videos greatly! You have amazing talent and, after watching this video, a great passion for what you do. My best freind told me about the same advertisement and I bugged my parents to get me one of those six holes as well. I now have five ocarinas including the 18 hole focalink and double ocarina of time, and playing these amazing instruments brings me much joy. Thank you for sharing your gift and all your videos. I aspire to one day play as good as you. Keep it real, bro; keep up the good work.
Great video David. I decided to learn the ocarina because of Zelda also. My son saw how much I loved playing Ocarina of time that he bought me a cheap Zelda ocarina a year ago. I tried on and off for a while but when I ran across your page and videos, I decided to go for it. I recently received another ocarina from STL that was better tuned and I'm having fun learning this instrument. I am a bass player so the transition from being a rhythm string player to more of a lead wind instrument player is kinda weird but I am loving the ocarina. Hope to meet you soon and keep up the good work.
You probably couldn't even guess how far that huge bid at the time would take you back then... But that's what happens when you actually put your heart, soul and love into something: People feel it and get motivated and inspired. Thus, here you are making videos, inspiring and teaching new Ocarina players until today!!!
My friend and I were obsessed with Zelda. I had always thought the ocarina was a panflute, until he had introduced me to ocarinas, though he doesn't have one yet. After begging and begging, on Christmas Eve, I had opened a box that said PlayStation 4 Games. I was depressed until I had actually opened it to find a Twelve Hole Alto C ocarina. my face lit up as if Given a gift from God. Later I had a TOTMC OoT Replica but gave it away. Then BAM! my first ocarina broke, however it has happened multiple times. Ever since then, ocarinas made me obsessed with music. I owe all of it to your channel David!:) Oh yeah, I was wondering if you could do covers of a few homestuck songs.
Thank you for all that you have done. I started playing ocarina when I saw it in Zelda, ocarina of time. I then looked up an ocarina of time, bought it, and started watching your videos. I then cancelled that order because I realized after your first octalk video that it was not good quality, and got the plastic focalink one you used in the videos. Without you, I would not have played ocarina
I have literally just started playing it about 3 months ago (at age 37), so I'm still a baby beginner. Also not a musician, so I had to learn some very basic music theory in order to understand how to read written music for it. I was always very interested in classical music though, and like to read about various instruments (especially traditional Chinese instruments). My brother bought me one (Stein Alto C - ceramic) in a music store in Hong Kong when he was there for a work conference. He is also musical and still plays piano at age 35 (in his free time). I have been watching some of videos as well for guidance.Luckily I have a hymn book with all the traditional Christian hymns sheet music written in it. I find that excellent training material, because I know many of the hymns by heart and can already play some of them through without making mistakes. I'm going to start learning the Totoro Main Theme song and the Princess Mononoke Theme Song now.
Like you David I was introduced to the ocarina through Zelda when I was 12 when it came out. love the game!! but it wasn't until the fall of 2015 I asked for an ocarina for Christmas. well I got my first one for Christmas 2015 and learned the music from the book it came with. that's when I discovered you was Jan 2016 and have been following you since. I'm no where near where I want to be on the instrument but that's my fault. I still follow you David and it's bc of you I still pick it up and play what I can bc I just love the sound of it. I was able to play O Holy night bc of you for my wife and the more videos you upload the more I want to get better so I can one day play along side you.
when i was 10 i saw an ocarina decorated like the traditional pottery of my people but i didnt have money to buy it, some time later OOT came out and i was like, That's the flute I saw! years went by and then i saw HeathersOcarina on youtube, she was promoting stl ocarina, so i saved money and got one. got frustrated tryna play it, then i found your videos and I'm having fun playing it now
I love your videos man! I've been watching for years and have always loved ocarinas ever since playing the legend of zelda on my n64. I finally broke down and bought the tenor echo ocarina from stl ocarina which should be here in a few hours actually. I can't wait to learn how to play and see how well I can mix it in with other instruments I play! keep doing what your doing and inspiring other people like you have me and god bless!
While i had music class in my school, the teacher brought us some instruments in the second grade, and some how they had an ocarina. After that day i searched in the internet for ocarinas and I found your channel. I began to watch your videos and I also begged my parents to buy me an ocarina. After I got it, I played simple songs and watched your learning videos, but after a half year or so (can't remember) I stopped watching tutorials and just played. I still can't read any music notes because i learned to play by ear. (the funny thing, you posted some days after that how to learn to play by ear :D). Now I'm the only one I know who plays the ocarina in my country Austria/Vienna. But I'm glad I learned it! Oh and since then I bought 4 ocarinas in total :)
this might sound a little silly, but this really inspired me haha i'm 13 years old and i recently found out ocarinas were a thing after the game, so i freaked out and i asked my parents to get me one for my birthday (which is in 2 days now!). crazy because it sounds so similar to yours haha it inspires me because i can see how much of an amazing ocarina player you've become and i really hope to be like you one day! :D thank you for still uploading (i know this is an old video) and continuing to inspire people like me!! :)
Hey David I discovered the ocarina when I was 12 (I'm 13 right now) I found two ocarinas in my mom's closet a 6 hole wooden ocarina and a 12 hole ocarina I have no idea what the 12 hole was made of but it was really Fragile. Because my brother dropped it from less than a foot and it shattered , and as a result I decided that I need to keep the 6 hole ocarina safe and after and it took me about two days to decide to help the world by showing it that not all good music is electronic after about half a year I got my second ocarina a blue plastic 12 hole ocarina . I take my 6 hole wooden ocarina with me everywhere and I practice when ever I can but my class hates my music
I started playing the ocarina because i like unique stuff, I didn’t know OOT back then. I order the crappy ocarina of time because I didn’t know much about ocarinas. Then i decided to be serious about learning it. I searched up ocarina songs to learn on yt, and then I discovered your channel, i saw the video of you playing the song of time. Now i am kinda good but not very good, I’m still learning and browsing good ocarinas. 🙏
The first time I was introduced to the Ocarina was in 2005 with the first video game I ever played Zelda OoT (I never beat it until I was re-introduced to the game in 2012 with the 3d remake I was only 3 in 2005) arround when OoT 3D came out I found that the Ocarina actually existed with your song of storms cover. I begged and begged until I couldn't win. Fast forward to September of 2016, my friend Ethan and I were coming out of school. He pulls out this little blue flute and with a closer look it was the Ocarina! I get excited and ask him everything about it. He showed me his ocarina from STL online on the school computers the next day. When I went home that day and begged for her to order it for me, she said that I could order it as long as I use my own money. So i get the money saved up about 2 weeks later. I ordered the Ocarina and I used your videos and Ethan to help me learn how to play this instrument. I love it so far!
Loved hearing about your ocarina journey! Crazy you've been on UA-cam that long. I bought an ocarina I'm getting tomorrow that I can't wait to start playing thanks to your vids :D I found the ocarina through Legend of Zelda like you did, but I didn't actually think about it as a viable option for learning until I looked up different woodwinds and found your videos.
You are the reason I play the ocarina David! Course Zelda had some impact, you inspired me to play said ocarina no matter how much hell went into playing the damn notes! :D
The first time I saw an ocarina was in the musical instruments section of the DealExtreme website. It was a Zelda model. I was curious about that unknown instrument. I never played Zelda, so I did not know what an ocarina was. I started searching UA-cam videos about ocarinas and your videos, along with Heather videos was the ones I liked most. So I decided to buy that beautiful and cheap Chinese ocarina ... which was totally out of tune. Then I bought 4 more Brazilian VentoKanta ocarinas (1 broke, 1 disappeared). I bought a plastic ocarina for travels and two more Ocarinas Sakura Wayta from Peru. Today I have 6 ocarinas and a lot to learn. Thank you Erick.
A couple of years ago (well, not quite two), and already in my late forties, I decided that I wanted to learn how to play an instrument somewhat competently. However, I didn't want to start out by spending a lot of money in case it didn't work out. I was looking at clarinets, and for reasonably good entry level quality, it was around three hundred dollars. I don't know why I already knew what an ocarina was when LoZ:OoT came out, but I did. I suspect it may have been from some earlier video game, but I'm not sure. It occurred to me as I was looking at instruments that an ocarina may start out a reasonable price. Also, it being a bit unusual had a certain appeal to me. I found that I could get an entry level instrument (the Night by Noble) quite inexpensively, so I did. Of course, since then I've picked up several other instruments and have spent about two hundred dollars on one and over three hundred on another, but I knew I was pretty serious at that point. Being less than two years in and having a job and other obligations, I am still not really very good, but I can't possibly see myself giving it up, so I hope to continue to improve.
What a cool story!! I get excited to this day waiting for any newly purchased ocarina! The broken Zelda ocarina was certainly tragic! I felt your pain too. I recently won an online auction for three ocarinas and the tiny little 6 hole Zelda was one of them. I am not into video games but of course heard of Zelda. The other two ocarinas were my main interest and the Zelda one was only a bonus. Upon arrival, I was skeptical on the tiny blue one but was quickly amazed!! It's not very loud, not perfectly in tune, but is really fun! If mine broke I would certainly be upset and have the worse day too!
I discovered the ocarina through Zelda. Then I learned they were real through a recommended by UA-cam video on a legend of Zelda abridged series video. My dad and I looked on eBay and we found the ocarina that you got as your first ocarina on there for 50 dollars. I played it all the time. I took it everywhere. Then one day one of my brothers friends asked to borrow it. My brother convinced me. I never got it back. I forgot about it until a week ago I was asleep and I was dreaming I was playing my old ocarina. I decided to go online and lo and behold they have so many choices. I'm now waiting excitedly for my second and third ocarina to come in the mail. Bonus: my 5th grade teacher was so inspired by my ocarina she actually bought one but the second she took it out of the box she dropped it and it shattered.
My parents left me at home one day because they had to go to this store and the didn't want to take my sister because she's young and they wanted go by themselves so they left me at home to watch. About an hour and a half later they came back with some items for me and my sister. I got headphones and my sister got some dolls. I thought that's all they got me but they surprised me with another gift. They reached into the bag and pulled out a Ocarina of time. I was sooo happy because I was talking about getting and they just so happened to find the exact same Ocarina I wanted which is insane. That's how I got my first Ocarina
I wish you could come to Hal-Con! I always bring my ocarina there, and last year I played the Splatfest song from Splatoon in the costume contest. I don't know if I'll play it up front like that for a while, but it's so much fun to see people's reaction to an ocarina that isn't the poor quality overpriced ones that are sold at conventions. When I wore my Zelda outfit (the one I wore in the 2014 collab) there, I got so many requests, and that's when I started learning more video game songs. I still play more for church than fun, but I need to get a video of my newer ocarinas up sometime.
Wow... The whole scenario on how your first ocarina got broke was very similar to mine. Although I still don't know how my first ocarina got shattered, but I tried to salvage it by gluing it back. But it doesn't even play as well as it used to, unfortunately. I got it and its replacement as birthday presents from my family, and since I don't know where they got them along with the fact that they're not common instruments, I tends to treasure my ocarinas, although I've been playing them for two years now. You truly are an inspiration. I'm not sure if you would consider this advice, but you could try auditioning for America's Got Talent. Thank you so much for the videos and your talent with an amazing flute-like instrument. With sincere regards, ~Songbird Rebel
I love videos like this. it's rare you get to hear the story behind why musicians play the instruments they play. like!
Kristina Beal hey 😄
Stina Bina me too
I don't know why, but I picked it up and said "I'm going to learn this."
Now I have my own ocarinas, and I'm intermediate with the instrument.
I think everyone had that OH SNAP ITS REAL?! moment when they found out their existence after this game
fantastic video and story, David :)
You guys are both big inspirations for me :)
Thanks man!
When you said that you started playing the ocarina because of the legend of Zelda ocarina of time, I subscribed straight away!
AbigBlackcat dude noice
Same with me. I wanted one so badly. I actually didn't know but for my first ocarina it was an oot replica..I replaced it immediately
Very much same!!
How are you right now? I kinda wanna know
I was 12 when I first saw the ocarina, my friend was playing Majora’s mask at the time I found it very interesting but I never thought that after 10 years it would be my hobby and passion.
Are you finnish?
Yes I am. Torilla tavataan!
DAVID. thank u so much i just got my first ocarina and i love your vids just THANK U
Thanks so much for getting both albums...glad you like them! 😊
you are such an inspiration to all of us david, thanks for making these video's!
David,
You are an inspiration to my students and to the ocarina community. Your passion for the ocarina will pave way to the future of this instrument in the US. There are already a few ocarina programs in schools popping up, that engage students in music, and help to inspire young musicians. I hope to be part of this movement and whatever way I can.
I love hearing your story! You are an awesome mentor and friend,
Nicolas
I already told you how i found out the ocarina is real, but i'll write it down here anyway ;)
When the 3DS remake of ocarina of time was announced i placed a preorder at my usual game shop, and it said it comes with an ocarina as preorder goodie.
Naryoril I love your story, thanks for sharing it to all of us! :)
It's videos like these that make me wish i could hit that like button more than once.
I watched your videos a lot too.very honesty and encouraging, respectable commentary. Thanks so much.
Hey David
My first ocarina purchase was impulse.
He's alive! Hey David I'm new to your channel, I've read a lot of comments of people saying you are the reason they started playing, although I had my eye on ocarinas before I found you, you really helped cement my excitement about learning to play it, you showed me how amazing ocarinas can sound with enough practice, I've currently had my ocarina for a little less than a month now and I can't wait to be able to eventually play more complex songs and tunes, your tutorial videos have helped me be better than what I could've been if I were to have just bought and ocarina and tried to teach myself,
I’m thirteen getting my first ocarina tomorrow!! I’m so excited ^_^
I can’t stop watching ur videos-
I'm just starting out with the ocarina and you inspire me so much. Thank you and I can't wait to start my own ocarina journey!
Touching story David I got my first ocarina today and I thank u for giving me the interest to play and I am 14 and love Zelda so I got a 12 hole replic thank u again. I discovered the ocarina by Zelda and by u thank u so much u rock.
I love hearing the story of how this all began! It was really touching
He’s the real OG on youtube, damn
It's a bit off tone and stuff, but as soon as I unpacked it, I had the biggest smile on my face :) I came by to watch and refresh myself with your vids, keep the good work david
been rockin since '07 and still enjoyin these vids, keep up the awesome work man
I like playing and collecting ocarinas because I'm a huge Zelda fan!
Thank you for sharing a part of you with us. Keep up the great work! 💛
David, i want you to know i'm part of the ocarina community and YOU inspired me :)
keep up the great work!
Same! I knew about Zelda games but I didn't know the guy plays an ocarina
I love your story. Many parts resonate with mine, too.
I love these types of stories
Just got mine a week ago as a 14 year old gift to myself and am looving it just gives me zelda ocarina of time vibes
Nice to hear your story, I just ordered my first ocarina two days ago, the last years I found passion in making music, I am still an amateur but I love it. Just like your story I loved to play zelda the ocarina of time. And when I came across this instrument I decided to buy it and to learn..... I know very original. All the zelda songs 🎵
I would love to see more from you and see what I can learn.
Your mom was totally right! Look where you are on UA-cam! Awesome, I bet she is very proud!
I owe all of it to your channel David!:)
Oh yeah, I was wondering if you could do covers of a few homestuck songs.
Thanks David!!! Docjazz4
when i was 10 i saw an ocarina decorated like the traditional pottery of my people but i didnt have money to buy it, some time later OOT came out and i was like, That's the flute I saw! years went by and then i saw HeathersOcarina on youtube, she was promoting stl ocarina, so i saved money and got one. got frustrated tryna play it, then i found your videos and I'm having fun playing it now
Omg i also play ocarina, this is my story too!
I also discovered the ocarina through Zelda and kinda through you as well! I think you're really awesome and I even have a couple of your songbooks :)
god this is so wholesome i love it
this might sound a little silly, but this really inspired me haha i'm 13 years old and i recently found out ocarinas were a thing after the game, so i freaked out and i asked my parents to get me one for my birthday (which is in 2 days now!). crazy because it sounds so similar to yours haha it inspires me because i can see how much of an amazing ocarina player you've become and i really hope to be like you one day! :D thank you for still uploading (i know this is an old video) and continuing to inspire people like me!! :)
Tell me how are you doing?
I bought an ocarina I'm getting tomorrow that I can't wait to start playing thanks to your vids :D
I found the ocarina through Legend of Zelda like you did, but I didn't actually think about it as a viable option for learning until I looked up different woodwinds and found your videos.
You're an inspiration to me!
You are the reason I play the ocarina David! Course Zelda had some impact, you inspired me to play said ocarina no matter how much hell went into playing the damn notes! :D
i discovered the ocarina thru you wich is why i now want to get one next month
You are an insparation to all of us!
Neat story!! I Ordered 1 and will get your book next!! Whoop whoop
Awesome!
why I like Ocarina because I watch your videos it sounds really good I bought my own Ocarina
I found out about the ocarina through you now I have a Zelda 12 hole thank you for introducing me to the ocarina.
I remember that ocarina ad in the Nintendo power magazine, i used to have a subscription when i was younger... ahaha omg
Bravo!
thanks to you i play Ocarina too
Discovered it through you dude.
This hurts me more than a girl breacking my heart ;( 2:32
I wish you could come to Hal-Con! I always bring my ocarina there, and last year I played the Splatfest song from Splatoon in the costume contest. I don't know if I'll play it up front like that for a while, but it's so much fun to see people's reaction to an ocarina that isn't the poor quality overpriced ones that are sold at conventions. When I wore my Zelda outfit (the one I wore in the 2014 collab) there, I got so many requests, and that's when I started learning more video game songs. I still play more for church than fun, but I need to get a video of my newer ocarinas up sometime.
i'm getting an ocarina in alto C soon :) i can't wait to learn from your videos
With sincere regards,

Hey! I also discovered the Ocarina because of OoT and Majoras Mask! In fact I always freestyle with the Ocarina in those two games
love you david
