Am honoured to know this gentleman, i have benefited alot even in my personal life. He's greatly entrepreneurial and honest and straight person. You cannot compromise this man. I honour your ithe wa Chege. I concur with chronology of events because i hail from Kirenga.
Very interesting and enlightening piece of history. God bless this great man .Let us never forget who we were/are .Watching from the US .Kenya my mother land much love .
Thanks to this man's educative and sad story especially brutal murder, innocent painful death of his father. Its a story for the younger generation Gema younger generation of the mountain to learn from what's going I Kenya today.. l suggest you re invite this and for part two because he's left some gaps especially from common entrance and thereafter. IHe has mentioned Mangu High school as the only High school but loaded by competition and thats true but l was joined by two students from Githirioni Nguiguti and Kinyenje in 1962. I also have a history recollection of Mr Njagi who's married toy only surviving Auntie Muthoni wa Njagi from same Githirioni but now settled in zmaai Mahiu. Kimani wa Njagi was equally tried and convicted to death but saved from hanging because he was under 18 years. The Lari massacres has never been better detailed than what's been explained by this and and his Story is marvellous history. Let's hear more. Your's truly Hon Patrick Muiruri former M.P Gatundu North and Assistant Minister for Agriculture. Son of Mau Mau Detainee
My grand father ended up being a very quiet man, he said nothing about the war only my grandmother told us these stories. It is quite traumatizing. Looking at what we are doing with freedom today, our fore fathers must be rolling in graves.
Very well articulated. This man is very smart. He has clarified a lot of things for me about this. A lot people were kille on the night after. Seems his uncles were jealous of his dad and decided to fix him. Mau Mau picked Luka to send a strong message to collaborators. Luka had stolen land given to kikuyus displaced in Tigoni. The bitterness a lot of Lari residents had on this land grab by Luka made it easier for them to assist Mau Mau in his elimination that of his supporters. Well done story. Kuria Kinyanjui was a detainee that why all pro mau mau peopel supported him. While Turuthi was a Muthomi meaning he was aligned with wazungus.
This is such an educative documentary. I hail from Gĩtithia and my Grandpa suffered the trauma of the atrocities metted on them after the massacre and didn’t want to talk a lot about it. A question though, Is the current Lari MP Dr. Mburu Kahangara a descendant of chief Luka wa Kahangara?
Thx MAUMAU Chronicles for sharing this information, hidden from our education system! BTW On Plug TV youtube channel there's an 11 minute clip of Pastor Ndura Waruingi interviewing an elderly woman 'The last female bodyguard of Dedan Kimathi.' Perhaps Pastor Ndura Waruigi can connect some of them for a MAUMAU chronicles interview
There was also Karanja Gacomba who was arrested during that time and was my father. He was transferred to a Kisumu notorious jail where he died. My Mother who was my father's youngest wife, was arrested and jailed at Kamiti and were together wife Mama Ngina according to my late Mom.
Wow, amazing story. If I may add, my Grandmother has a similar story of the suffering that she endured during the struggle against the diabolical British. I deed, My Grand Father was a Mau Mau in Githunguri. Surprisingly, When he was alive he never spoke much, however, and day he showed me his gun. Yes, It was a home made rifle. Without Question, Protect this independence. Evidently, Over One million Gikuyu, Embu and Meru died for the liberation of this country.
My one and only uncle brother to my father died in the Maumau war.I come from Mathira in Nyeri. My father was Maumau and my mum used to take food for the soldiers in the forest. No one should joke with our indipendence it was bought by People's blood.
My grandfather was among the first group that was arrested and taken to Manyani in 1953. Initially convicted to hang for murder but later sentenced to life after appeal. He came out after 7 years. That's the story he told us.
To Githirioni people. The colonial village was still around up to the late 1980s. It was on a hill on the junction of towards kirenga, githirioni and nyamweru. There several mud houses on top of the hill. I think the locals called it Gichagi kia Mbia
I read this story in another book. I think there were 21 people who were hanged with this group. It was such a painful event. Sad to those who were affected directly. They were buried in Kamiti maximum prison.
He is still emotional about it all as if it were yesterday...seeing his father hangedhis mother jailed was such a traumatizing time for him .. scared for the rest of his life
There was a mass grave at the NHC estate at Kiambu town. People living near Kiambu eg Ndumberi in those days said they used to be forced to view bodies of killed Mau Mau mostly from Githunguri and Lari
The Settler Trust Fund was a grant according to Gitu Kahengeri. The one million acre fund. This scheme was later adulterated after independence. lndeed it was raped. Many were murdered for simply demanding their fair share of the fund. The idea of the fund was to encourage the settlers to vacate the lands they'd grabbed from 1900.
