Around 80% of these incidents are the result of mentally ill people and probably 90% were preventable because the mentally ill showed SIGNS of their illness. It's just that no one cared enough to try to get them help.

He knew he was going to get life regardless. He was just trying to save face. In order for him to take responsibility for his actions, he would’ve had to say much worse things about himself and even ask for the DP. That would be true accountability. An eye for an eye. This kid was failed by his parent. Yes, what he did was terrible, tragic, and wrong, but I believe him. I believe he understands (to the best of his ability-maybe not fully because he is still a _kid_ ) the pain he caused and the consequences of his actions. I pray he keeps his word and focuses on himself, changing, growing, and helping other people who maybe are in similar situations or before they go down the wrong path. It’s sad to know he will be in jail for the rest of his life. He did something horrible, but he had serious mental health issues, his parents simply ignored him and didn’t intervene. Just a sad story. Sad for the victims, their families, and this life that could’ve been saved had he been given help from the people (his parents) who were supposed to love and care for him.
RIP to the victims of the shooting. May your spirits live on through the people who love you and were left behind. We will never forget the amazing people you were and the beautiful souls that you continue to be. I pray that their families find peace, comfort, and closure.

"Chilling" is a little over the top. Perhaps a better description would be "lacking remorse", "emotionally inept", or "out of touch with reality".
