I hope you are never falsely accused of a crime at some point in your life. All US citizens are entitled to a fair trial and a proper defense. It is the job of the defense lawyer to look at every area of evidence that is available to ensure that they are giving the defendant the best defense possible. It isn’t a personal attack at the victims and it isn’t because they simply want to set a monster free to live in the same society that they do. It is because they took an oath to uphold the constitution which includes the sixth amendment and if they know of evidence that may be used as a defense they are obliged to present it. Our system is not perfect and many many people have been falsely accused of crimes AND convicted.
The defense attorneys are not the criminals, let’s place anger where it belongs.

Former Judge Scherer is absolutely correct... Even if the motion by defense is revisited by Judge Rowe, the bottom line will, in all likelihood, not change. You can't reasonably claim that this mental illness defense alleviates the culpability of the defendant enough to modify the initial sentence. In other words, the egregiousness of the act far outweighs any mitigating factor of a mental disorder which supposedly made him do this. This dude deserves to never be released from the confines of the MI DOC, same with the Parkland shooter.

I find this a really sad case all the way around. I remember when it all first came out, a lot of information was exposed from social media and friends that made it very clear, this kid never had a chance. The way he was raised was basically to be ignored and abused. It seemed like what the parents did was basically create a killer. I was so glad when those parents
were found guilty. As for Ethan, while it is incredibly sad how he was raised, the fact remains that he did indeed kill those students and therefore I can't see how his sentence could be changed. It seem there could be the possibility that mental health care MIGHT help him, but that would be a long shot, and sadly our system, as it is, would doubtfully be able to give him the type of help he would need. This is just a no win for anybody.
Perhaps the biggest take away in all of this , in my mind, is that if parents aren't interested in actually raising children, they shouldn't have any. I hope the Crumbleys are never allowed to get near any child ever again.
