Thanks for the video but I feel like I got chucked in at the deep end on the first day of school. I have a couple of home computers and 3 NAS's - an otherwise simple home network with the RT6600AX router; no VLAN's. I do use Tailscale while I'm away from home occasionally. It would be nice to have a foundational video and just start with setting up some basic firewall rules on a relatively simple home network.

Very great video. My question that I am curious is how do I allow the Staff network to chromecast or AirPlay to the IoT network?

Hi, I really like the home lab series. When are you gonna make a new home lab episode?

Hi ! What do you think about adding 2 rules thats block all for TCP/UDP & ICMP ? after that you can allow what you need to allow !

Yup you could do it that way as well. Probably be a little easier depending on your rule set

Thanks for the video. It would be great to know how to use SRM firewall rules to lockdown DNS for devices to a local DNS server, which in my case is a pihole. If a device user changes their DNS they are dropped. I would think another rule would need to be created to allow the pihole to use any DNS?

I understand your concern about locking down DNS, yes you can do it but it mite not be worth the trouble it could create. Unfortunately many devices including some applications will hard code DNS and if you block those the applications/devices could stop working. Ring and Roku come to mind here, I have been fighting this for a long time.

I wish that Unifi could have done such simple FW rule management instead of what they've done now. xD

I was searching for a fanless (and simpler) solution to replace UDM pro (which after 2 years start to make a lot of noise from the vents) and also to provide a minimum suport for vlans (segmentation) + a min solution for firewall/threat prevention. This seems to be what i was looking for but - after I've read some topics from synology forum(site/community) I found out that this model has some issue with random wifi drops (especialy traffic on 2.4 Ghz) and since I have alsmost all my IoT devices on 2.4 Ghz ... it's a big issue for me :(

I have both this model and it's little brother, the 2600. I have never heard about the wifi dropping before your comment. But, my girlfriend does use the wifi connection to our 2600 as it is bridged to our 6600. She complains that her wifi drops occasionally so now I can tell her that I don't think she's crazy any more. BTW, She sends her love...
