I got my first w123 300d for free too and as the years went on I’ve traded thru 3 other diesel Mercedes ranging from 124 and 126. I’m back to a w123 that is a complete twin to my first free Benz so it brings back good memories. My first Benz had 600k miles on it and my current on has 195k.
I love it. I just got my 1981 240D back on the road that I bought a few years ago for a mere $1000, with a new set of Michelins, lol! I let it sit for a while, and decided to get it going. Tranny doesn't want to shift; have to drive it like a manual - let off the throttle and it'll shift. Lot of small things to get done on it, but hey, they don't make them like they used to! I've been driving 240Ds and 300SDs for the past 27 years. Congrats on the 'free' car! Rust looks kinda bad, but hey, I'd drive it! A little tinkering here and there and it still has life left in it. Thanks for the video.
Mine has the same issue when turning the key. No response from the starter but works when when i touch the wire together. Do you know what the problem was?
Oh wow!! You’re so lucky. Jammed ignition no problem! Happens to me once and a while. Got to have a knack to get it loose. 😎 Seriously though- Mercedessource Kent Bergsma has a video about it. Also Pierre Hedary has one too!
@@dieselbenzrevive6820 yeah you can find them in USA but in Europe they are super rare especially if you want equiped one... To find one with turbocharger is really really hard maybe one in a hundred... And with AC maybe one in a thousand and if you find them they are often in such bad condition it's not worth to invest in restoration process. I am thinking of buying on in USA but Import and shipping fees greatly exceed cars value
I also have a w 115 benz car its very bad my dream is to buy a 123 / 300d benz car as per our country its just a dream The economy of my country sri lanka is a bad as my old car Buying an old car is just a dream for the people of this country the 123 / 300 d benz car will always be a dream for me............
I recognized this place (arcata) immediately! We stopped to look at that car several times. I'm glad you can put some love into it!

It drives surprisingly well. I hope you can fix the leaks before the rust gets terminal. Maybe this car needs a new home somewhere dry like Arizona. 🤔
Arizone would suit this car well, it drives better than my other W123 the transmition is so smooth, like i have never experienced.
@@dieselbenzrevive68207i lo
you absolutely got a good deal and great rescue I definitely love Mercedes Benz turbo diesels I wanna one of these days someday
now is the time to snag one before the prices get out of controll.
Sounds surprisingly good. Tough old cars!
Congratulations. I am glad you will rescue the car.
after driving it home im thinking this transmition and engine might end up in my rust free car.
@@dieselbenzrevive6820 but promise to swap the other motor back into this one, these cars need to be saved!
Congratulations on your german tank/car very lucky to get it for free 👌 wow..

Oldtimer Mercedes-Benz cars are the best. High quality and durability.

@@dieselbenzrevive6820 great for me the best car in the world is mercedes benz ^-^
Excellent. Lucky man
That w123 has the one year only rear end also. Forgot the ratio.
Yes i had a 1985 Coupe W123 and it has the california engine with better rear end ratio for better gas milage.
@@dieselbenzrevive6820 My 85 drives great and with the rear end it has a good blend of pep, and cruising speed.
It is 2.88.
Good job but i would have got some oil out of it😊
Wow, what a deal. Here in New England, some jack*** would want $4,000 for that w123.🙁
i believe that.
What a deal!
Cant beat Free/99
Nice!!
I wish i can get this car but i live another continental.
i bet there are cars where you live that i wish i could have.
I want this so bad
Slow cars are good!
If you want to sell it I'll buy it. I accept free cars too lol
I would pay gladly at least $2000-3000 for this maybe even more if I could
find a fixer-upper on craigslist.
Do you know that we traded in a 250 1980 in almost pristine condition for just 600 bucks!
@@mesuesja80 that is dirt cheap... 😭
