Ok so an open-world resident evil game isn’t a bad concept per se, but honestly, I think they should stick to what RE4 remake had, fully explorable locations that allow you to revisit other places until you get past a certain point giving you a chance to find all collectibles there. I hope to see Jill Valentine in RE9 but on a single player experience. Would it be nice to have a co-op option? Sure, but make it only accessible with other players and not like what RE5 or 6 did. Maybe something like RE0 or the revelations games but better.
I absolutely love Odyssey and Valhalla, but I don't think open world would work for Resident Evil. co-ops not bad, but I always end up not playing RE5, RE6 and Revelations 2 unless I have someone to play co-op with.
If a resident evil game was going to be open world or semi-open world, the one that would suit it best would be the Re3 remake, but they missed that chance.
I am a Game tester and those rumors makes my blood boil. When people do those leaks , they make it even harder for the companies to trust their employees , people can lose their jobs from leaks. I'm sure i'm alone in this but I prefer seeing a game as it comes out than watching every single leak

Yo be honest I think open world games are fucking lazy nowadays. Like its the easiest way for developers to make a game because they don't have to focus on being detailed.
They're likely going to take that route. I don't see why they'd go berserk and undue what they did in soft rebooting the game with Ethan Winters and his story while taking the game back to a more survival horror approach. They saw where altering the formula drastically took them the first time around, and it would be WILD to see them drastically do that again. Especially considering Capcom, with their consumer oriented surveys and track record within the last few years; they've been on a roll over all. They seem to want to keep their traction with the way they've been moving. (I get that they've been pissing some people off with certain things like micros and anti piracy that limits game performance potential, but these measures are often consequences of what the player base has been doing, and what they've also been supporting).

Being a full open world worries me. I literally just said in one of your previous videos that I don't want Resident Evil to go for a full open world experience. Resident Evil was always better off being linear or semi-open environment. This may be just a personal preference but I am tired of the open world genre in general. This formula is losing its credibility. There are a few exceptions, of course, but at this point, going full open world becomes an unoriginal trend in my opinion.

Knowing Capcom and RE, “open world” is probably a misdirection/exaggeration. It’s probably “open world” in the same way Tomb Raider 2013 is “open world”, like RE4 and Village but larger in scale, or maybe they’re going for a bit more of a nonlinear “solve the location in whatever order you want” kinda thing
If it’s open world all the protagonists should somewhat be involved to finish the stories. Since apparently this is the final instalment of the story so far. (Which I doubt they had one planned)

It's probably gonna be the same as re8 where the map is quite big where certain areas are off limits until you get a new item but just on a larger scale so it's not that insane for an open world re game.
Yes Open World Racoon City, Also! you get to enjoy Racoon City before the outbreak!! then the outbreak happens and you get side mission besides the main mission .. to help civilians and some reward you with a weapon!! Plus have a vendor or two to buy, sell and upgrade things..and when you clear a few missions you get to unlock an option to go back and enjoy Racoon City again before the out break!! and just like re4 shooting game you get to do that in Racoon City maybe an arcade and enjoy old school capcom games!! Personally im all for exploring so im totally in... and for those who don't like it..im sure you get to play the other releases and limited exploring that'll keep you busy for 5 hrs.. But realistically an open world would definitely be for more hardcore fans and those who are into open worlds.

At this point. RE games have such a variety of gameplay. I don’t see why it would be surprising if they changed it up again. 1- 0 was fixed camera, 4-rev 2 are 3rd person action, then 7 and 8 fps.
I wouldn’t mind RE9 being open world if it’s done correctly, but it does sound like a recipe for disaster. I didn’t much care for The Evil Within 2 because it was open world, but I also think it wasn’t done properly. Just my opinion but if RE9 is open world I hope the side quests and such add to the story and not veer it off into a different direction. Either way I cannot wait for the next RE game and the next remake (which needs to be Code Veronica)
3:46, reminds me of the first act in the evil within 2 where you explore the zombie infested town of union where you would be able to save npc's that would gain you access to a new safehouse (kinda like in RE8 with Luzia's house). There were also some side missions you could do like exploring certain areas for certain weapons and fighting optional bosses (also seen in RE8).
Village was some of the best resident evil world building I've ever seen in a re game, so that but magnified more would be incredible, for example imagine if we could go back to the haunted house, castle, etc at any point. Or we could "in theory" visit any in any order we wanted, and just change the enemy boss hp values to be slightly higher each time so they aren't all as easy as they would be if you did them first.

Definitely sounds like it will be more like a RE4 and RE8 village-style open world but on a larger scale. Maybe just the one location for the full game instead of 3 locations. But the "open world" has a bunch of locked paths that you unlock through the story
RE9 being open world is nothing more than a "hit-or-miss" experiment. Why? It's the enemy placement. In most open world games, it's not an issue because the character you play already knows how to fight with a sword or skill that you can use at any point with no worries. In RE, you are limited to limited ammunition and knives that have limited durability. If you are surrounded being limited as it is in an open world setting, you are screwed because you either have little or nothing against a aggro'd horde.
Metro Exodus handles this, it has large open levels to explore. With side quests and upgrades to find all over the 2 main maps. Then it just needs a director to give ammo/ heals when needed. Just like RE4 and Dead Space.
As an excellent & similar example to what could be open world RE can be, TEW2 actually have a semi open world map. Even the first Alan Wake was conceptualize as open world horror game too.
I think, capcom is planning to make RE games open world so that they can add more side missions through updates with lots of microtransaction in it. It's just my opinion.
Honestly, the idea of RE9 being open world scares me. I just want a genuine survival horror game with surprises and strong lore. They should stick to the roots of RE survival horror for RE9 instead of experimenting new things just cause the engine is able to do so. With that said, I think we can all agree we are desperately waiting for a trailer. Hopefully it comes soon!
They let us down on re8 so nah I don't hope much from them since they still are taking on an area inspiring from resident evil 4 . I still love re7 and want a true horror game but got. A knockoff re4 with re7 graphics and mechanics in re8 You might have noticed this that re4 and re7 had a vibe , a personality their own essence but when they just mixed the 2 , it didn't work out at all . Story wise, too the child father part couldhv been used properly but but it's use wasn't done properly and made a totally shiit ass. Dlc and ruining the storyline even more .
Co op fun in resident evil as long its not a bad AI i love Re zero The Outbreaks RE 5 and 6 Hell RE 5 one of my favorite games. I like the Single players as well except RE 3 REmake they need to remake that again.
I'm a big fan of Resident evil been playing them since ps1 days. What about an open world but done up where you select a character and play their story then another and play their story and they interact and connect with one another like the 1st and original RE2 did would that work out you think? You can select from all the surviving and legacy characters it would be a huge game for sure.
Maybe it could work, maybe not. Resident Evil 4 (the original) also tried something new and succeeded, we should have to wait and see. It can't be worse than RE 6 (and I like RE6 btw)
Resident Evil Village was an impressive game, but it had one flaw that I found frustrating. The inability to revisit locations where you might have missed collectibles meant that you had to replay the entire story to retrieve the ones you missed. I believe that future games in the franchise should address this issue, as it would make the gameplay experience much more enjoyable for players.
I wonder how many new Resi games we'll play by 2030. There are at least 5 RE games that need that Remake treatment - RE, RE5, RE6, RECV, RE0. That's already ALOT of work, especially if they want those potential remakes to be as high quality as RE4R was for example. And they have to pump out new mainline entries at the same time as well. Maybe Capcom should pull people from other divisions, so they could develop these games faster?

For what i think next 4 games would be Resident Evil 9, Code Veronica remake, revelations 3 and a multiplayer. I don't understand why people think 5 is going to be the next remake. If capcom made 5re they be just capping there remake potential and 5 before code Veronica doesn't make sense
Leon & Jill meet finally..Leon with his round house and Jill with her dodge to come back with an extra one time push on zombies before getting attacked, be able to place basic traps and keep boarding up windows. Og re3 gunpowder mixing updated. Keep the formula of puzzle solving and pacing but for the love of god please don’t go full open world not every game needs to be open world it’s getting boring seeing a nav bar with locations to basically tick a box and waste time. Re games have great story telling because of the linear set up you get to one part to move on to next. Open world games suffer I think due to the fact you can do anything in any order which affects how it’s told, re does not work like this plus going back and forth to complete goals will take long time again re games give you a chance to go back for everything or a secret then lock you out to progress the game. I think it’s a good set up for a game especially horror. I think the action in re3 4 remakes is enough dont over do it.
I 100% agree with you! If they do go "open world", then as you said, they shouldn't overdo it. Keep the game horror focused and don't go full open world like most games nowadays
Many games I enjoy co op features but with RE I prefer single player usually. May be why I loved 4 but never enjoyed 5 and 5 much. Maybe if co op was optional but during single gameplay you'd be by yourself like most RE games and only a coop partner would appear when playing in online coop like it is with most ubisoft games such as far cry.
I think RE would be better as "open enviornment"... much like the village of RE4r, or the seattle section in the last of us part 2. Or lke that one comment said, a bloodborne esc interconnected world. Where each section might be a little linear but it expans into pervious/other areas the more you explore it.
From RE9 I only expect Capcom to not blindly follow the open world gimmick just because it's "in". If they do this, they better deliver an amazing open world game that's an RE take on this type of game. That Ubisoft quest marker example you brought up - chilled me to my bones. Also - Evil Within 2 had precisely this type of open world gameplay. It really just felt unnecessary and didn't add anything good, just the fact that it's open world.

Capcom has 1 big issue that it has had for many years: They don't know how to make a good story. Even some of their best games are best because they are fun, not because they have a good story. The closest thing was DMC3 which was both fun and had a good story. But every other game they have had made, simply had an OK to bad story, mixed with fun gameplay (except DMC2 which mostly sucks). They've made games with interesting characters, fun gameplay, but a bad story overall. If someone can tell me 1 truly inspiring story that capcom has ever made, i will give you a cookie.
0 hype because I didn't finish Resident Evil 8 thanks to Capcom's DRM, Denuvo, or what ever that was making the game unplayable on release. I got a refund and never went back to it, and I'm afraid the same thing can happen to Resident Evil 9, specially after the Dragon's Dogma 2 performance fiasco. My build has a 4080, and I had to use PureDark's DLSS 3 mod to have a good experience with that game. Never in my life I felt the need to use DLSS 3. It was always nice to have, and I use it often, but this was the first time that I feel it was either use it or get a refund and move on.
I'm not a fan of open worlds anymore. The AI always become wonky and npc's walk around aimlessly, talking to quest npc's back, weird animations. Semi open areas where you can loop back to the start after opening shortcuts is they way to go. Even in DD2, there has been problems with what I mentioned just now. Either a developer makes it right the first time like ER or TLoZ, or be super janky like CDPR or Rockstar games.

Minor controversial take, I'd love more games like Operation Raccoon City just executed better. Squad coop game going through infected and dealing with bosses and skills. Bonus points if they did what if tidbits like ORC story. The multiplayer was a absolute buggy mess though don't bring that trash back XD
It all depends on the execution. Granted, I don't have a lot of faith in Capcom when the experiment with the RE franchise, it usually doesn't go well. However, if they can pull it off then I'm here for it. If I could play a great 30-hour game or have another RE3 Remake, then I'd take the 30-hour game every day. The Witcher and Soulsborne games weren't open world either and look how W3 and Elden Ring turned out.
Capcom likes to try implement features in their games that could tease a mechanic in their next upcoming games... RE7 gave us a persuer in Jack Baker, so we got Mr. X, Nemesis, Lady D, and even Mendez for a short bit in RE4remake. Re8 and RE2 were for the most part open world, so a proper open world RE game COULD be in the works, but I like to take any leaks with a grain of salt

It's acceptable as long as the open world is not too massive, but has packs of contents like Elden Ring. Also since this is RE game, i expect a lot of backtracking for just unlocking progression. This thing also open possibilities for multiple endings, something quite rare to see in RE series and as far as i know, only RE3 and ORC which have multiple endings (except RE3 which provide same conclusion)
An open world Resident Evil would probably be more befitting of a spin off rather than a main line game? But whatever. I'd honestly rather the "open world" be the events of Raccoon City, I only really want an Outbreak remake, basically. I find it a bit trite that we're going the open world route anyway, especially since I don't wholly trust Capcom to make an open world with a lot of meaning to it. I'd like to be proven wrong though, they can go whatever route they want since even if we're vocal it doesn't matter, we get what we get and we can only burn it down when it arrives. A lot of people have asked for a RE5 and Outbreak remake, a lot of people have been disgusted by their attempts at PvP stuff.. Capcom just does whatever they want and we can hope for the best.

I'm replaying Far Cry 6 and I love it but to make it a survival horror would b impossible y? Well, survival horror has limited ammo, it can't have massive empty grassy areas like in FC and they r beautiful but Re is creepy and scary also its usually in a castle, subway or a backwards little run down delapitated town. Also the story no matter how cheesy has always been a major part of all Re games big time! So I don't know how Capcom if done right, would have to blow us all away and reinvent reinovate a genre or a gaming experience. If anybody maybe its them. Can they do it is the big question. Either way its been 9 plus games so I don't care cause either way at least to me it will b exciting. I will say this, Re4 has always been one of my favorites and the remake is now my favorite game basically ever I mean it was for me close between Dead Space 2 but this remake is so good and the collectables with the backtracking I think they were trying it out and it was a huge success so I think they will push the limits on this part making the backtracking a bit more important for the game unlike it's importance in the remake. Who knows but we will c! I still gotta play the Dead Space 1 remake...
I’m excited for RE9 I hope we get it before another remake don’t get me wrong I like the remakes but RE5 isn’t particularly one of my favorites and I’ve never played code Veronica but I’ve seen clips and it looks like a weird game I would however love an over the shoulder RE1 remake I tried playing the RE1 remake that’s already out and I couldn’t make it far because I’ve been playing over the shoulder and first person games my entire life (I was born in the early 2000s)
They see the success of open world games like Elden Ring. I think they could pull off an open world RE in a similar fashion with RPG dialogue/choice elements. For example one scenario you discover a house in Racoon City and find survivors with lots of resources (guns, ammo, etc)- you can choose to befriend them or eventually betray them to steal their resources. Maybe they bring you on a quest and find out they are actual bad guys trying to ambush other survivors so you don't feel so bad to betray them suddenly or not betray them and take on a bad-guy path yourself. Maybe they don't tell you they've actually been bitten and become zombies later on. They'd have to put a lot of effort into these scenario's to make it feel like you're creating your own story and not have another lifeless open world game.

The main thing I want is for the option for 1st and 3rd person. Loved 7&8 but I always prefer 3rd p and that’s the only thing that ever turned me off then they did the add on for village and I gotta admit I enjoyed it much more playing 3rd. Idk if it’s just me but for story driven games 3rd will always be the goat and 1st I thinks always going to be better for shooter games🤷🏻♂️
I dont know about an RE Open World game, but I would like to see Code Veronica Remake or Operation Javier Remake style kind of game. If they want to to Open World then they could go with Operation Javier or Outbreak since that would fit with open world for a test on Co-op. Operation Javier would fit as a test bed for RE5 Remake. But Code Veronica should get a remake first.
I really hope Leon is a major character in re9. It would be nice if you could play as all RE protagonists random points(besides Ethan and Rose cuz that story ended nicely). The main character is going to be played the most obviously(the main character is probably Chris tbh). I would also like to see a romantic relationship between Claire and Leon slowly developing but nothing too serious.

Ya I agree, I love games like in Village where u can backtrack and explore, this makes for a more realistic more richer gaming experience, it all adds to replay value. Re 4 was nice adding in the collectables. I do understand tho how Capcom wants to push the limits so this is good but I would have to agree, not a full open world experience unless it can b something scary and amazing like only in a castle part which would make the castle huge but only one part of the game. I really hope that we get trailers for RE9 soon cause I want to see what is true and what isn’t. Open world RE should be left for spin offs or maybe someone would want to make some kind of RE rpg with phantasy star 4 style markets and cut scenes and fighting engine. What they should try to do is let us make our own survivor from a version of Chris from the first game, our own version of hunk, or someone who just looks like they wandered into town and thinks it’s a movie or a video game. I wonder what we will get for the big 30th anaversary of the series?

Bruh all DD2 proved is RE Engine is not capable of open world. It doesn't look good texture quality is weak performance is terrible and even a 4090 Super can't fix.

Eh, RE7 and especially RE8 weren't very great and lost the biohazard fundamentals. (Better than RE6, but that's not saying much). I'll take the remakes over the new games.
Resident evil needs to move back to realism. Sure zombies are not real but the world around the outbreaks is meant to be real. By resident evil 4 the game had too many military experts and international spy's on Presidental missions instead of regular cops or regular people. Probably looking for more tension and less expert gun action. Inventory management and having an area with locked doors worked for the old games so return to that. I want smaller locations that look amazing so visuals are vital for horror atmosphere. Each room in the game should be detailed and unique. Yes single player is what works for resident evil.
Go back to the 3rd person for the mainline games, just feels more resident evil, and in terms of the next remake (which I'm sure is very far into development) make 5 it's own game, build a new story line for 5 and 6 that leads to village, and for the love of God don't go full action, re4 had the right amount of both
I absolutely hate open world base games. They take way too long to play. Or get anywhere in the game. Therefore I just end up giving up. I hope they don't do this with Resident Evil. I find it would just ruin the concept of The Game.

I would love RE 9 or RE 10 to be the final game in the series with one last hoorah. My only real cares for the series because it's so good for the most part (I'm looking at you re3 remake) is whether or not it's first person cuz I've been loving it, whether or not there's some kind of loveable merchant that can buy, sell and upgrade things cuz I love that too and finally if it's going to be a good mix of horror and action like re8 and re4 as re4 was slightly goofier in the horror and went more action in the end while re8 wasn't goofy horror but still action towards the end like re4

I'd rather a smaller, yet more densely explorable game. Like give us a world that's more interactive. Stalker enemies should be able to smash or throw tables out of the way to get to you, bullets should impact the environment. Maybe add in some alternate pathways thru things, like using vents. But yeah, the bloodborne esque notion sounds better than something huge in area.

Ok so an open-world resident evil game isn’t a bad concept per se, but honestly, I think they should stick to what RE4 remake had, fully explorable locations that allow you to revisit other places until you get past a certain point giving you a chance to find all collectibles there. I hope to see Jill Valentine in RE9 but on a single player experience. Would it be nice to have a co-op option? Sure, but make it only accessible with other players and not like what RE5 or 6 did. Maybe something like RE0 or the revelations games but better.

They're likely going to take that route. I don't see why they'd go berserk and undue what they did in soft rebooting the game with Ethan Winters and his story while taking the game back to a more survival horror approach. They saw where altering the formula drastically took them the first time around, and it would be WILD to see them drastically do that again. Especially considering Capcom, with their consumer oriented surveys and track record within the last few years; they've been on a roll over all. They seem to want to keep their traction with the way they've been moving.
(I get that they've been pissing some people off with certain things like micros and anti piracy that limits game performance potential, but these measures are often consequences of what the player base has been doing, and what they've also been supporting).

Being a full open world worries me. I literally just said in one of your previous videos that I don't want Resident Evil to go for a full open world experience. Resident Evil was always better off being linear or semi-open environment.
This may be just a personal preference but I am tired of the open world genre in general. This formula is losing its credibility. There are a few exceptions, of course, but at this point, going full open world becomes an unoriginal trend in my opinion.

Yes Open World Racoon City, Also! you get to enjoy Racoon City before the outbreak!! then the outbreak happens and you get side mission besides the main mission .. to help civilians and some reward you with a weapon!! Plus have a vendor or two to buy, sell and upgrade things..and when you clear a few missions you get to unlock an option to go back and enjoy Racoon City again before the out break!! and just like re4 shooting game you get to do that in Racoon City maybe an arcade and enjoy old school capcom games!! Personally im all for exploring so im totally in... and for those who don't like it..im sure you get to play the other releases and limited exploring that'll keep you busy for 5 hrs.. But realistically an open world would definitely be for more hardcore fans and those who are into open worlds.

At this point. RE games have such a variety of gameplay. I don’t see why it would be surprising if they changed it up again. 1- 0 was fixed camera, 4-rev 2 are 3rd person action, then 7 and 8 fps.

I didn’t much care for The Evil Within 2 because it was open world, but I also think it wasn’t done properly. Just my opinion but if RE9 is open world I hope the side quests and such add to the story and not veer it off into a different direction. Either way I cannot wait for the next RE game and the next remake (which needs to be Code Veronica)

the semi open world in 8 was great so id love to see something like that but with a town or city
3:46, reminds me of the first act in the evil within 2 where you explore the zombie infested town of union where you would be able to save npc's that would gain you access to a new safehouse (kinda like in RE8 with Luzia's house). There were also some side missions you could do like exploring certain areas for certain weapons and fighting optional bosses (also seen in RE8).
Village was some of the best resident evil world building I've ever seen in a re game, so that but magnified more would be incredible, for example imagine if we could go back to the haunted house, castle, etc at any point. Or we could "in theory" visit any in any order we wanted, and just change the enemy boss hp values to be slightly higher each time so they aren't all as easy as they would be if you did them first.

RE9 being open world is nothing more than a "hit-or-miss" experiment.
Why? It's the enemy placement. In most open world games, it's not an issue because the character you play already knows how to fight with a sword or skill that you can use at any point with no worries. In RE, you are limited to limited ammunition and knives that have limited durability. If you are surrounded being limited as it is in an open world setting, you are screwed because you either have little or nothing against a aggro'd horde.
Metro Exodus handles this, it has large open levels to explore. With side quests and upgrades to find all over the 2 main maps. Then it just needs a director to give ammo/ heals when needed. Just like RE4 and Dead Space.
Thats why youre not a game developer bro. You lack vision and creativity.
As an excellent & similar example to what could be open world RE can be, TEW2 actually have a semi open world map. Even the first Alan Wake was conceptualize as open world horror game too.

Honestly, the idea of RE9 being open world scares me. I just want a genuine survival horror game with surprises and strong lore. They should stick to the roots of RE survival horror for RE9 instead of experimenting new things just cause the engine is able to do so. Co op fun in resident evil as long its not a bad AI i love Re zero The Outbreaks RE 5 and 6 Hell RE 5 one of my favorite games. I like the Single players as well except RE 3 REmake they need to remake that again.
I'm a big fan of Resident evil been playing them since ps1 days. What about an open world but done up where you select a character and play their story then another and play their story and they interact and connect with one another like the 1st and original RE2 did would that work out you think? You can select from all the surviving and legacy characters it would be a huge game for sure.
Maybe it could work, maybe not. Resident Evil 4 (the original) also tried something new and succeeded, we should have to wait and see. It can't be worse than RE 6 (and I like RE6 btw)
Resident Evil Village was an impressive game, but it had one flaw that I found frustrating. The inability to revisit locations where you might have missed collectibles meant that you had to replay the entire story to retrieve the ones you missed. I believe that future games in the franchise should address this issue, as it would make the gameplay experience much more enjoyable for players.
I wonder how many new Resi games we'll play by 2030.
There are at least 5 RE games that need that Remake treatment - RE, RE5, RE6, RECV, RE0.
That's already ALOT of work, especially if they want those potential remakes to be as high quality as RE4R was for example.

Leon & Jill meet finally..Leon with his round house and Jill with her dodge to come back with an extra one time push on zombies before getting attacked, be able to place basic traps and keep boarding up windows. Og re3 gunpowder mixing updated. Keep the formula of puzzle solving and pacing but for the love of god please don’t go full open world not every game needs to be open world it’s getting boring seeing a nav bar with locations to basically tick a box and waste time. Re games have great story telling because of the linear set up you get to one part to move on to next. Many games I enjoy co op features but with RE I prefer single player usually. May be why I loved 4 but never enjoyed 5 and 5 much. Maybe if co op was optional but during single gameplay you'd be by yourself like most RE games and only a coop partner would appear when playing in online coop like it is with most ubisoft games such as far cry.

From RE9 I only expect Capcom to not blindly follow the open world gimmick just because it's "in". If they do this, they better deliver an amazing open world game that's an RE take on this type of game.

Capcom has 1 big issue that it has had for many years: They don't know how to make a good story.
Even some of their best games are best because they are fun, not because they have a good story.
The closest thing was DMC3 which was both fun and had a good story.
But every other game they have had made, simply had an OK to bad story, mixed with fun gameplay (except DMC2 which mostly sucks).
They've made games with interesting characters, fun gameplay, but a bad story overall.
If someone can tell me 1 truly inspiring story that capcom has ever made, i will give you a cookie.
0 hype because I didn't finish Resident Evil 8 thanks to Capcom's DRM, Denuvo, or what ever that was making the game unplayable on release. I got a refund and never went back to it, and I'm afraid the same thing can happen to Resident Evil 9, specially after the Dragon's Dogma 2 performance fiasco. My build has a 4080, and I had to use PureDark's DLSS 3 mod to have a good experience with that game. Never in my life I felt the need to use DLSS 3. It was always nice to have, and I use it often, but this was the first time that I feel it was either use it or get a refund and move on.
I'm not a fan of open worlds anymore. The AI always become wonky and npc's walk around aimlessly, talking to quest npc's back, weird animations. Semi open areas where you can loop back to the start after opening shortcuts is they way to go. Even in DD2, there has been problems with what I mentioned just now. Either a developer makes it right the first time like ER or TLoZ, or be super janky like CDPR or Rockstar games.
Resident evil doesn't work as an open world. Maybe bigger open spaces.

@peterc504 That's the issue with fans they want everything their way. I liked those games for the 90s and re1 remake for GameCube but that's it. It's like turn base on a final fantasy game. That's never happening again. It's old school and boring.

Minor controversial take, I'd love more games like Operation Raccoon City just executed better. Squad coop game going through infected and dealing with bosses and skills. Bonus points if they did what if tidbits like ORC story. The multiplayer was a absolute buggy mess though don't bring that trash back XD
It all depends on the execution. Granted, I don't have a lot of faith in Capcom when the experiment with the RE franchise, it usually doesn't go well. However, if they can pull it off then I'm here for it. If I could play a great 30-hour game or have another RE3 Remake, then I'd take the 30-hour game every day. The Witcher and Soulsborne games weren't open world either and look how W3 and Elden Ring turned out.
Capcom likes to try implement features in their games that could tease a mechanic in their next upcoming games... RE7 gave us a persuer in Jack Baker, so we got Mr. X, Nemesis, Lady D, and even Mendez for a short bit in RE4remake. Re8 and RE2 were for the most part open world, so a proper open world RE game COULD be in the works, but I like to take any leaks with a grain of salt

But tbh I would also prefer the mainline games to be like what they're now and the open world concept... Just make a Remake of Outbreak #1, maybe a whole new Outbreak game. I'll just hope they make the somewhat right decision.
open world sounds MEH. Look at zelda open world BOT and tok...so boring runing for hours in an empty open field playing minecraft and putting logs and shit together lolll go back to the old style zelda ...and OLD style RE like RE1 and RE 2 remake....all this new crap is TRASH!!
It's acceptable as long as the open world is not too massive, but has packs of contents like Elden Ring. Also since this is RE game, i expect a lot of backtracking for just unlocking progression. This thing also open possibilities for multiple endings, something quite rare to see in RE series and as far as i know, only RE3 and ORC which have multiple endings (except RE3 which provide same conclusion)
Co op is always a great idea. I want at least one more main line game that has co op
An open world Resident Evil would probably be more befitting of a spin off rather than a main line game? But whatever. I'd honestly rather the "open world" be the events of Raccoon City, I only really want an Outbreak remake, basically. I find it a bit trite that we're going the open world route anyway, especially since I don't wholly trust Capcom to make an open world with a lot of meaning to it.
I'd like to be proven wrong though, they can go whatever route they want since even if we're vocal it doesn't matter, we get what we get and we can only burn it down when it arrives. A lot of people have asked for a RE5 and Outbreak remake, a lot of people have been disgusted by their attempts at PvP stuff.. Capcom just does whatever they want and we can hope for the best.

Exactly! I think its gonna b like the original 3 games were u have to find the right key or item to progress because survival horror can't work in open world because of limited ammo. The storylines of Re I think another rich part of y we love the games so much no matter how cheesy they may b but with open worlds? It gets a bit dawn out. Who knows Capcom might just reinvent and blow us all away..
I'm replaying Far Cry 6 and I love it but to make it a survival horror would b impossible y? Well, survival horror has limited ammo, it can't have massive empty grassy areas like in FC and they r beautiful but Re is creepy and scary also its usually in a castle, subway or a backwards little run down delapitated town. Also the story no matter how cheesy has always been a major part of all Re games big time! So I don't know how Capcom if done right, would have to blow us all away and reinvent reinovate a genre or a gaming experience. If anybody maybe its them. Can they do it is the big question. Either way its been 9 plus games so I don't care cause either way at least to me it will b exciting. I will say this, Re4 has always been one of my favorites and the remake is now my favorite game basically ever I mean it was for me close between Dead Space 2 but this remake is so good and the collectables with the backtracking I think they were trying it out and it was a huge success so I think they will push the limits on this part making the backtracking a bit more important for the game unlike it's importance in the remake. Who knows but we will c! I still gotta play the Dead Space 1 remake...
I’m excited for RE9 I hope we get it before another remake don’t get me wrong I like the remakes but RE5 isn’t particularly one of my favorites and I’ve never played code Veronica but I’ve seen clips and it looks like a weird game I would however love an over the shoulder RE1 remake I tried playing the RE1 remake that’s already out and I couldn’t make it far because I’ve been playing over the shoulder and first person games my entire life (I was born in the early 2000s)
They see the success of open world games like Elden Ring. I think they could pull off an open world RE in a similar fashion with RPG dialogue/choice elements. For example one scenario you discover a house in Racoon City and find survivors with lots of resources (guns, ammo, etc)- you can choose to befriend them or eventually betray them to steal their resources. Maybe they bring you on a quest and find out they are actual bad guys trying to ambush other survivors so you don't feel so bad to betray them suddenly or not betray them and take on a bad-guy path yourself. Maybe they don't tell you they've actually been bitten and become zombies later on. They'd have to put a lot of effort into these scenario's to make it feel like you're creating your own story and not have another lifeless open world game.
I for one would love a open world resident evil. In fact, it do t even have to be resident evil. I just one a horror game in an open world. DONE CORRECTLY. I been waiting for the right open world survival horror game for eons. Everytime we get that it’s some bullshit indie game or ones that’s not scary or just not done right. An open world RE game came do wonders for the lore and lore fans. They need to make locations scary as shit. Mansions, hospitals, big buildings etc. just give me a scary open world game
The main thing I want is for the option for 1st and 3rd person. Loved 7&8 but I always prefer 3rd p and that’s the only thing that ever turned me off then they did the add on for village and I gotta admit I enjoyed it much more playing 3rd. Idk if it’s just me but for story driven games 3rd will always be the goat and 1st I thinks always going to be better for shooter games🤷🏻♂️
I dont know about an RE Open World game, but I would like to see Code Veronica Remake or Operation Javier Remake style kind of game. If they want to to Open World then they could go with Operation Javier or Outbreak since that would fit with open world for a test on Co-op. Operation Javier would fit as a test bed for RE5 Remake. But Code Veronica should get a remake first.
I really hope Leon is a major character in re9. It would be nice if you could play as all RE protagonists random points(besides Ethan and Rose cuz that story ended nicely). The main character is going to be played the most obviously(the main character is probably Chris tbh). I would also like to see a romantic relationship between Claire and Leon slowly developing but nothing too serious.
Don’t go open world … it will ruin RE… their cool but we want a story driven game where its suspenseful/scary/cinematic not I run here and I run there and then I come back to talk to this dude and I run back to where I came from… RE is much more run forward complete shit and shit happens on the way…
As far as a coop player mode… I really don’t want a companion in the single player … however I can never justify a game being only single player. Is their a good way to allow single player to be single player and coop just be the same but add volume of zombies or creatures or have like a horde type of mode ???

Ya I agree, I love games like in Village where u can backtrack and explore, this makes for a more realistic more richer gaming experience, it all adds to replay value. Re 4 was nice adding in the collectables. I do understand tho how Capcom wants to push the limits so this is good but I would have to agree, not a full open world experience unless it can b something scary and amazing like only in a castle part which would make the castle huge but only one part of the game. There r many avenues they can go and b innovative about blowing us all away. I really can't decide cause I think they know wut their doing heck its been 9 plus games so y not?
I really hope that we get trailers for RE9 soon cause I want to see what is true and what isn’t. Open world RE should be left for spin offs or maybe someone would want to make some kind of RE rpg with phantasy star 4 style markets and cut scenes and fighting engine. What they should try to do is let us make our own survivor from a version of Chris from the first game, our own version of hunk, or someone who just looks like they wandered into town and thinks it’s a movie or a video game. I wonder what we will get for the big 30th anaversary of the series?

Bruh all DD2 proved is RE Engine is not capable of open world. It doesn't look good texture quality is weak performance is terrible and even a 4090 Super can't fix.
I'm just saying, I'm not against co-op in resident evil. But they could add it in like say mercenaries or even raid mode (if they ever bring that back). Or (and hear me out) they could remake Outbreak files 1 and 2
Eh, RE7 and especially RE8 weren't very great and lost the biohazard fundamentals. (Better than RE6, but that's not saying much). I'll take the remakes over the new games.
Resident evil needs to move back to realism. Sure zombies are not real but the world around the outbreaks is meant to be real. By resident evil 4 the game had too many military experts and international spy's on Presidental missions instead of regular cops or regular people. Probably looking for more tension and less expert gun action. Inventory management and having an area with locked doors worked for the old games so return to that. I want smaller locations that look amazing so visuals are vital for horror atmosphere. Each room in the game should be detailed and unique. Yes single player is what works for resident evil.
Go back to the 3rd person for the mainline games, just feels more resident evil, and in terms of the next remake (which I'm sure is very far into development) make 5 it's own game, build a new story line for 5 and 6 that leads to village, and for the love of God don't go full action, re4 had the right amount of both
I absolutely hate open world base games. They take way too long to play. Or get anywhere in the game. Therefore I just end up giving up. I hope they don't do this with Resident Evil. I find it would just ruin the concept of The Game.

I would love RE 9 or RE 10 to be the final game in the series with one last hoorah. Everyone from the series coming together to defend a more grown up Rose from Umbrella only for Rose to be a character in the last act who is more OP than any RE protagonist we've seen. And umbrella finally getting buried.
My only real cares for the series because it's so good for the most part (I'm looking at you re3 remake) is whether or not it's first person cuz I've been loving it, whether or not there's some kind of loveable merchant that can buy, sell and upgrade things cuz I love that too and finally if it's going to be a good mix of horror and action like re8 and re4 as re4 was slightly goofier in the horror and went more action in the end while re8 wasn't goofy horror but still action towards the end like re4

I'd rather a smaller, yet more densely explorable game. Like give us a world that's more interactive. Stalker enemies should be able to smash or throw tables out of the way to get to you, bullets should impact the environment. Maybe add in some alternate pathways thru things, like using vents. But yeah, the bloodborne esque notion sounds better than something huge in area.
To anyone saying no to an open world Resident Evil game (an entire destroyed city/town) is EXACLTY what would make a vicious RE game. Not a fan of linear games
