  • In this video I headed to a local aquarium fish auction in Brisbane, Australia! There were hundreds for fish up for auction, as well as plants, shrimp and driftwood, with many things going for extremely cheap prices. We also found some unusual and rare species. These can be HUGE. Last year the auction went until 2am!
    Stick around until the end to see:
    - The buy of the night
    - Hear about what happened to me after the auction (not good lol)
    - And see how my fish coloured up after 2-weeks on a new colour flake food!
    Timestamps:
    0:32 - Arriving at the auction! Springwood State School
    0:39 - The Auction board (100's of fish including African Cichlids)
    1:57 - Saying hi to Dan from Brisbane Discus
    2:20 - Duthie Aquatics and Plants for Sale
    3:52 - Meeting Nigel from AQUARIUM CENTRAL!
    4:09 - Aquamunch Food - New Good Quality Australian food
    5:31 - Can you eat fish food..? (I did)
    7:34 - Claudia showing her new Bettas and Gourami
    8:16 - Buying some Ad Konings African Cichlid Books
    8:52 - Steve Baines - I believe in Rainbows
    9:23 - Driftwood for Sale
    9:43 - Jason from Australian Biotopes and his Blackwater Botanicals
    10:34 - Graham's Aquarium Fish and Shrimp Deals!
    13:31 - Trying out Aquamunch Gel and Flake Food with my African Cichlids

    Yay that's me! My fish have been doing super well. The bettas were shy to start but they're doing so well now! I regret not buying more at the auction, but I did have a budget for the day haha. I need to try that food!
    It was so lovely meeting you! I only recently moved to Brisbane from a small town and it's been great getting more into the fish keeping community. Everyone is so lovely and passionate about the hobby

    Just a tip when you’re making up the gel food. You can pour the mixed food while it’s still warm into ice cube containers and just pop out a cube when you feed your fish. I’ve used this method with Rapashy gel food and you can also seal the cube container in a freezer bag and store it in the freezer for a couple of months.

    i breed (neo)caridina shrimps and you can definitely put it in hard water. just make sure you buy a juvenile and not full adults as juveniles can handle anything while full growns are super sensitive. basically the older (larger) they get, the more sensitive they get. goodluck they are so much fun 🥰

Anyway my sister in Caboolture sent me a photo of bunderberg gingerbeer crisps (chips to you!) and she's coming over just after christmas for a visit so she better be putting some in the suitcase for me haha

    Who sponsored the event? Typically in the US, Aquarium clubs put on auctions and swap meets. Used as fund raisers. Many do not allow other sales on the side as it takes away from money spent on the auction.

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  10 місяців тому +2

      This is organised by our local Cichlid Club as a non for profit event, and all the people are volunteering. Then the people selling on the side I believe also pay to have their stalls as a part of it

    • @zlamanit
      @zlamanit 10 місяців тому

      @@Kaityscichlids It does look way more like a comunity event than anyone trying to make money or find a bargain.
      Spend the same time at work and it'll more than make up for the difference between the action and retail prices, so it's clearly not about the money.

    • @alishanas9380
      @alishanas9380 10 місяців тому

      Clubs here jwill usually separate auctions from swap meets . The clubs make $ from swap meets by charging for vendor tables and an admission free. For auctions the club will split the proceeds with the seller. Usually Anywhere from 50/50 to 70/30 ( in favor of the seller). Some may also charge admission. My own club takes the first dollar from a live goods lot and the rest goes to the seller. We charge 60/40 for dry goods (60 to the seller)
