One of the best variations I have seen on this pattern. Both the method of tapering to the tail and splitting the thread instead of using a dubbing loop. Which in this application would be too bulky. Your flies catch both fish and show that with practice even a relative beginner can produce what at first glance appear to too complex to attempt.
Hi Gary the vice I use is this one, unfortunately Troutline are out of stock. It maybe worth while emailing them to see when they will have more. I can heartily recommend the vice. www.troutline.ro/tvrdek-rotary-vice
Lindsay your variant will catch just as well as the original. Plus I can see this as the basis for more colour variations for waters like Bewl Water and for other sedge types. Like grannom or any crippled sedge emerges.
Lindsay, this is the 3rd variation of that beautiful fly, thank you,

Called the Retirer as it ‘retired’ all the other fast water sedge patterns in Davie Parker’s box at an international competition
So I'm told pal.
Nice fly-all give it a go👍🏻
It can be very effective worth adding to your box.
Knockoff yes. Original no
