Hey KDIVAS Hope your week is slaying as much as Michelle Obama's inauguration outfit? Here are some quick reminders for anyone looking to attempt this project 1) Please use your own measurement for the best outcome 2) I share a modified options at the end of the tutorial if you want the waist band to joined along the side seams 3) You can use this waistband on skirts, trousers, shorts e.t.c if you don't want to fix a zip or buttons Who will be recreating this?
I’m just curious, how does the fabric in the back not bunch up all weird? I made a test skirt with a different waistband where the it is all elastic but it is sewed down at the front so it won’t gather there. I did this and the back looks weird.
This is exactly what I needed. I have a fully elasticised skirt which I'm turning into a belted front as it looks more neater. This will definitely help me.
Easy?? 🤣my head is spinning watching this. Guess my brain is too elementary for this. This video was very technical for me. Like advanced level. 😫🤷🏽♀️
This vigeo is so helpful dont know if it was intentional but the fabric that was used on this tutorial rellay helped as well. Please continue to make videos! 💗
I will be attempting this. I have an elasticated waist skirt I made, but being plus size, the volume at the front was way to much making me look bigger. I've wanted to change it to half elastic for a while. Loving your tutorials
So I’m adding a waistband to a pair of shorts that use to be a romper and was just googling how to and found this video. THANK GOD because I would’ve NEVER known about the hip measurements and multiplying it by 1.5! I would’ve been that idiot finishing it up and realizing I can’t fit it over my butt! Thank you!!! 😂😭😂
Thanks for this! I had a feeling I could do it, but it really helps to see someone ELSE do it first! And the comparison of methods at the end was helpful too - I prefer your method, but it was good to compare and think it through. The front (and back) of my skirt will be pieced and kind of A-line, but it will be a non-gathered width when it hits the waist in front like yours. Being able to skip the zipper or whatever for the back seems awesome. I had a pair of slacks with a half-elastic waist once and they were great for wearing under tunics - no button-bump in the middle of one's belly!
I love your method as opposed to method 2...I like how from afar someone sees its fitted in the front but actually doesn't know of the loose silhoutte at the back...your method is totally the way to go 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥰
Do you have a video covering the second method in more detail? I’m mostly curious about what looks like the line sewn down the length of the elastic waistband. Did you just sew a regular straight stitch, stretching the elastic as you went?
And if I wanted to make a half circle skirt, I would have to use waist x 1.5 to determine the skirt radius right? I wonder if it would work and look nice 🤔i'm an amateur sewist 😅

Great tutorial! Thank you. I think I’ll add a few box pleats in the front so the skirt is overall more evenly gathered.
I just started a pattern where I needed my closure to be partially elasticated this is a godsend
Glad you enjoyed it
This has been the most clear and honestly the best tutorial for a half elastic waistband, thank you so much, you’re a life saver 💛💛💛
Glad it helped!
I have learned so much from your videos!

Yeah it's less stitching as well, especially for someone new to sewing.

How long do you cut your elastic? 1/2 waist?
Hola soy del salvador. Perdone la pregunta con que me dida hago la cintura para poner el elástico. Espero su respuesta
Have long should the elastic band be? 2 inches shorter than the back waist?
How do you determine the elastic measure?
Which stitching machine do you have ? Can u suggest some good companies for machines plz I wanted to buy the good one
That ruler looks nice. Where did you find it?
Hi Kim will this be the same procedure for a toddlers school pants ?
Yes this will work for that as well, if they kid's measurements are used.
@@KimDave yes I want to try to make my daughter Pants skirt with same elastic back and plain front
Yaaayy
How did you get the elastic measurement?
Hi there! Question, how do you determine how long the elastic should be for the back waistband section?
It should probably be the length of half the waist measurement
Hi huh much thks but how long to cut the elastic
Mam can u tell me where to buy this elastic...
How to know the length of elastic i should use?
I’m here first! Hey Kim!
Yes you are honey ^.^
You read my mind. How would you do this on a pajama pants?
For pyjama bottoms, the waistline will need to be as wide as the hipline so you’re able to wear the trousers
Thank you
i want to make a skirt like this but i want it to be a pleated tennis skirt.
There is a tutorial for a pleated tennis skirt coming to the channel today
Method 2…sheesh. So if the waist is 38, the back needs to be 76 inches??? 😯
Hi How are you
I'm good, and you?
Doesn't look right😢
