Rebecca is also here on UA-cam as Dollar Tree Dinners, and she's one of the most thoughtful, hard working creators on this platform, creating meals for people on a strict budget. Yet many of the comments here are missing the point by criticizing her efforts. Unbelievable. Happy Thanksgiving
As someone who’s currently homeless I have to get a rotisserie chicken for $5 and some small sides like cupped mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese because I can’t afford a full on thanksgiving. So this does help people in not so good situations. Happy Thanksgiving stay blessed❤
My favourite thing about her is that she prices she dish out by the total price, not the bulk value. Too many "budget recipes" that say something like "If you buy a 100lbs bag of potatoes for $40, then each potato is only-" NO, NO ITS NOT! That's not how broke math works! Serving cost means nothing to someone who can't afford to buy in bulk. Bless her for doing what she does!
I agree that she's helping people in desperate need of help. But as someone who personally lived the "broke math" life for decades, I've got to push back on the notion that cost per serving size is just some inconsiderate talking-point about buying in bulk. The same principle applies to standard sizes in discount grocery stores. One of several key problems is that the latter aren't easily accessible to many thanks to a social norm that prioritizes THINGS over PEOPLE. And the sad part is that we collectively accept short-term, band-aid solutions like exploiting the poor for profit rather than simultaneously demanding long-term solutions to long-term problems. Put another way, it's far too easy to smile at these feel-good stories, repeating the sentiment...Every. Single. Year. ...with no end in sight, instead of finding big-picture ways to reverse the unintended consequences of the so-called "progress" of the past 80 years that keeps so many people living near or below the poverty line. It is not an easy task, but it sure won't get done if we continue to live for the moment and insist that the future is too hard, time-consuming, etc. to fix.
@@sirrebralyes we know that in the long term, same applies to repairing/replacing instead of patching, or buying quality items instead of cheap or used so that they last. Prob not! But it’s what I could spend at the time. Now I can afford to shop at Costco or farmers markets etc and have better outcomes but I remember the actual struggle
@@mamat1213 I'm sorry, but that perspective falls apart easily. First, what gets us by "in the moment" is a low bar...whether we do financially sound things, or whether we do counter-productive things instead, we rationalize it the same. And that's where the opportunists come in, taking advantage of the poor's situation, making it a business model, and disingenuously claiming to "help". People have been struggling LONG before dollar stores were ever a thing, and history shows us that they "got by" without being systematically exploited at the dinner table by a business model literally built on taking advantage of those living in poverty.
People complain about high food prices at the grocery store and at restaurants. Yet, when someone presents an alternative, they poke holes in her efforts. Yes, her Dollar Tree meals aren't for everyone, but there are people who don't have much money as well as people who are living on their own or maybe one other person who doesn't want to go all out for one meal. In this case, it's a taste of Thanksgiving cuisine without breaking the bank.

The sad part about these dollar tree meals is that it’s a reality for nearly every American family. Personally, I am thankful for the dollar tree meals, but also outraged that shopping at the grocery store is an impossibility for so many families.
Finally, someone with a realistic opinion. I think her meals are definitely a good way to get yourself back to your feet, until you start saving enough to buy in bulk and budget for healthier meals. Rebecca is doing God's work. But the economic situation shouldn't be so dire that the low income households need to resort to these canned foods and instant mixes. Our leaders have failed us in that regard and people are taking out the anger of not being able to afford stuff on her.
Wow. Reading the comments and you realize how many people are not capable of thinking that whatever their situation is, does not mean that's what other's situations are. Food prices are NOT the same across the U.S. There are some areas that are significantly higher, even at places like Walmart. Our food prices in Wa State are higher than Idaho. California is even higher than we are. Dollar Tree is pretty much the same everywhere. Not everyone qualifies for EBT as many have suggested people "just get". If a single person works, they do not qualify for ANYTHING. No EBT, no health insurance. And with rent as high as it is and food costs that have tripled, people DO NOT HAVE EXTRA. The qualifying income amount for welfare has not gone up to match inflation. And of course eating processed foods is not ideal, however not everyone has all of the necessary appliances to store fresh food, or a full kitchen to prepare food. There are people in ALL types of situations, not just the one YOU are in. If you are able to afford fresh food, store it, and prepare it, be thankful. Not everyone has that. If you are able to avoid shopping at DT, don't brag about it. Just move along and maybe find some way to share your good fortune instead of giving unsolicited advise.

There are so many pretentious, obnoxious, out of touch food snobs on social media, too many. What we need are more people who know how to stretch the dollar with food and can share that with more people. The last four years were catastrophic, a lot of people slipped into poverty, food insecurity, and financial hardship who have never really been in this situation before. They need to see the ways this can be done.

I think it's very sad and speaks to corporate greed how people cannot afford a simple Thanksgiving dinner. Not everybody wants to live this way and yet everybody should. I am glad that she is providing an option for those who have to make hard choices
Yes. It's sad that the USA infrastructure is designed so everyone needs a car to reach a supermarket. If health and finances prevent driving, and no one is around yo help, then Dollar Tree and similar stores are it. She get a lot of positive comments from disabled veterans who have been living on food like spam.
Dollar tree dinners is such a great channel, Rebecca really cares about her audience and takes into consideration the various difficulties people face on the daily. She’s dripping with empathy and I just love her content.
So happy she got this recognition! Been following her for a while and her entire USP is that she does affordable meals that people with strict budgets or dietary concerns/ physical disabilities can follow. Was thrilled to see that this video went viral.
That's brilliant and so helpful to low-income families who struggle to put everyday meals on the table let alone a Thanksgiving meal. UA-cam has been so helpful for all of us struggling to afford groceries with great home cooks who know how to economize.
I spent about $20 also. I only have 4 people over and the supermarket by me sells turkey breasts so I bought those for $5, then did cornbread stuffing with craisins in it, potatoes, gravy, fresh green beans, homemade rolls & apple pie. I'm grateful to still find affordable options everywhere I look
Love Rebecca 💜Her ability to improvise with what u can afford & research recipes. 🌸She does a great job creating meals on a tight budget & gives back to her local community preparing meals to donate to elderly as well. She will be a great resource to many to feed their family as we navigate increasing food costs 🎉
I’m glad to see more people doing this on other videos. Why is this considered “broke” or “poor”? She’s showing what can be done with little money. This is effective especially for families in this economy during these times.
For a long time, I couldn't afford to go see my parents (10 years.) My holidays were $7 Chinese lunch specials or I'd buy a few things for under 8 and throw together. And that was a treat because I ate maybe twice a day and a lot of days was because there was food at work. It's sad there's people worse off than I was- because I felt like my life was bleak and meaningless those years.
My family in the 80s did this because we were poor and we also used Aldi's which at that time the bread was $.25 cents. Till today my aunt still uses the grocery section of dollar tree. There are some stores that have a fridge section and some do not.
@@gaylenewood7707 I know. Which is why I mentioned the 80s. It's more now. I remember when it was 25 cents for a loaf of bread. I now make my own bread.
Yes, Ald's bread was .25. My sister and I had to ride our bikes three miles to Aldi, and three miles back, to get that .25 bread, and the bucket of peanut butter, LOL Many times per week for that and whatever groceries we could carry on our bikes. We didn't have a car, and the tiny grocery store near our house was too much money for our food stamps. Aldi food wasn't great back then, but it was cheap. It's amazing, now. I see you had really hard times, too. But I am grateful for the life long lessons about how to keep fed when you don't have money. At the beginning of the pandemic, when grocery stores were out of eggs, bread, etc, or closed, I was like OK, roll up my sleeves and get creative with what I have. I'm sure it's similar for you.........times were hard, but we're not afraid of hard times!

Rebecca is an extremely smart, thoughtful, creative & spectacular human! There is so much time, effort & thought that goes into each and every meal she creates & puts out there. She thinks of people who don't have conveiniences available & gives them so many options. Most of these people only have access to Dollar Tree or Dollar General for their groceries! She's so compassionate, kind & genuinely CARES about all people! In this economy, she is a literal lifesaver to singles, couples & most importantly FAMILIES WITH KIDS!!!! Do you have any clue how many kids go to bed hungry every night? HERE? IN AMERICA?!?! Her meal plans, shopping lists & alternative ideas may not be the most healthy, but it sometimes can be the choice between paying a bill or feeding your children! For even one single person to come even close to criticizing this humanitarian makes me furious! She's providing a way for people to sustain themselves & their families during these tough times! Watch her channels! Be informed! If you have no need for her talent, then count your blessings & help someone who does need help!
There were a lot of UA-camrs doing the Dollar Tree and Dollar General thanksgiving dinners this year. I watched several and found them to be interesting.
Canned turkey is what MOW...meals on wheels used in my Thanksgiving tray tiny meal. Isn't good but better than nothing. The Dole peach "creme " in a teeny cup was not edible, to me. The "dessert "...didn't eat that. Things really need to get a lot better in the USA. Just grateful for what there is.

I’ve been watching Rebecca for 3 years now. She definitely deserves this spotlight.
Awww, this is so cool. I've been subscribed to her channel for a while. She is a very genuinely nice person.
She is a wonderful creator absolutely love her and her content. Great to see her videos going viral she deserves it 🎉
I think it's very sad and speaks to corporate greed how people cannot afford a simple Thanksgiving dinner.
Not everybody wants to live this way and yet everybody should.
I am glad that she is providing an option for those who have to make hard choices
Corporate greed? Why don’t you blame the government that prints billions of dollars and causes inflation to skyrocket.
God Bless Her
She cooks like this all the time! Her Chanel us great 😍love that people are thinking outside the box
Innovator ❤
It’s always good to see the good that comes from social media ❤
So happy she got this recognition! Been following her for a while and her entire USP is that she does affordable meals that people with strict budgets or dietary concerns/ physical disabilities can follow. Was thrilled to see that this video went viral.
The negative comments section just shows that Americans are scared and ashamed that USA is crumbling down
That's brilliant and so helpful to low-income families who struggle to put everyday meals on the table let alone a Thanksgiving meal.
There are a lot of people who don't live near anything but dollar tree or dollar general.
okay?
I have heard about this. Great for her and the families she helped!
This is awesome to see Rebecca getting this recognition. ❤
This Earth Angel deserves so kind of award. Person of the YEAR !!!!
I’ve followed her a while, she’s an excellent educator
What a wonderful gift to be able to give to others. She is doing everyone a service.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Awww I love her channel! So glad to see her getting recognition on such a large level!
The richest country in the world and we have to do this.
I love her channel!! Glad to say I've been watching since last thanksgiving too!
Tomorrow, I'm going to Chinatown and getting my beef noodle soup. At $12, the portions are large enough to split into dinner and next day's breakfast.
Good job as a human thankful for you this thanksgiving
For a long time, I couldn't afford to go see my parents (10 years.) My holidays were $7 Chinese lunch specials or I'd buy a few things for under 8 and throw together. And that was a treat because I ate maybe twice a day and a lot of days was because there was food at work. It's sad there's people worse off than I was- because I felt like my life was bleak and meaningless those years.
She’s soooo resourceful and creative! A real life angel. ❤
Yaaaaaas Rebecca finally getting recognition. She is incredible
So cool!!!! So many of us are struggling horribly to say the least. I'm glad ppl found her videos! ❤❤❤❤❤
My family in the 80s did this because we were poor and we also used Aldi's which at that time the bread was $.25 cents. Till today my aunt still uses the grocery section of dollar tree. There are some stores that have a fridge section and some do not.
At aldi's a loaf of white bread costs $1.35.
*God Bless You Rebecca!!! thanx to you (& other DT food creators) for sharing your gift with us.* 🍲💚💸🌳 🙏🏽
I love her and her channel!!! Good for her!
Sadly our Dollartree prices just went up again in Canada, a lot of the food at the Dollartree is cheaper to buy at Walmart or Superstore.
I watch Rebecca all the time. I love her videos on YT and Tik Tok. She's great
That's wonderful Been following her for a long time. She is a blessing God continue to Bless her greatly 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️
Thank you for sharing this story with us. I’m so glad we have access to ideas such as the ones she shares. The fact she’s able to inspire so many , is both moving & motivational. 🥰🙏💖
limitations breed creativity
She is such an awesome creator. She has awesome ideas and like strives to make meals that are tasty, affordable, and accessible. She is genuinely so fun and kind seriously give her stuff a watch. I’ve gotten some tips and ideas from her too
What a great story. Encouraging people to share their ideas on planing meals
This is wonderful! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The fact that this is even making the news shows how bad our economy is right now. 🤦♀️
Wow god bless her heart
She’s one of my favorite UA-camrs.
Looks like what's really cooked is the American working class
If people keep falling for billionaires lies and cons, yes, the working class will be cooked.
trickle down is working?

She has the true spirit of Thanksgiving.
She's amazing!
shes been doing this for years on youtube. she went viral on tiktok well before this thanksgiving video.
