Thank you for doing an actual review of the game instead of whining about it being a visual novel.
Agreed that is primarily the bad reviews. To be fair though bandai really dropped the ball on advertising the game. It's like they didn't care if it succeeded or at least that's how it seemed from my perspective
@Kei* Fei Ku I guess you’re going to ignore the ass load of games based on anime/manga, that aren’t visual novels? I get that you’re trying to defend the game, but you can do that without being wrong.
@@Brian-kl9tc hmm. I guess I was lucky I was lurking around enough Digimon creators that the Almighty algorithm had a lot of ads for me. Also I knew going into this that it will be a visual novel but I guess my experience is different from everyone
I have no issue with the graphic novel style but this ones not as good as it should be given the development time. The characters talk in circles endlessly and theres less story as a result. The story being a slog is kinda offputting but not nearly as offputting as the lack of dub. Also the combat is a joke and might as well not be there. I enjoyed the dark story and game overall but it fell a little short of my hope. 8.5 is a reach, 6.5 maybe 7 cuz it triggers nostalgia
this game is ass.
Oh so it shares similar visual novel gameplay like 13 Sentinels. A game which I thoroughly loved and got a platinum trophy for.
Please dont expect this game (played through chapter 8) to be in 13 sentinels's caliber (platinumed it). The difference in story quality, pacing, character's logic and battle are like heaven and earth.
Yaaay NP always delivering! Since they didn't send review codes until now no one had a review out so I bit the bullet and got the game blindly. Its good but I'm also biased towards Digimon. It fells like genuine Digimon adventure with thriller and horror realism, since putting kids in a different world full of monsters cant end well (unless it's a kids show). But my GOD does my ADD not want me to play this. Some scenes drag sooooo much and are filled with some stupid arbitrary anime tropes that I have to put the game down for a couple of days every sesion.
This has been my experience
as well.
Such a well done review and so few views... what a pity, cause you guys always make really good points.
At some point the algorithm will turn in our favor haha
@2:03 So many reviews hide the fact that a game is actually a visual novel these days, kudos for telling us before getting into the review proper.
What is this background music? It slaps so hard.
Really well done review. I would personally give it a 9 because for a digimon game it’s really well done but I wanted a little bit more of vn and srpg. It’s a digimon game, every digimon game tries new things, it’s never the same. The digimon franchise and in this case, the games, were always about innovation, adding the digimon touch. I only see that the people that don’t like the game are the ones that aren’t really related to the franchise.
I came in very skeptical and it wasn't really on my radar, but it looks really interesting. I haven't really been into Digimon since Tamers, but this looks like it a story that has evolved with my taste since then. Keep up the great work, you all are my favorite reviewers and one of the only voices in niche games that I trust!
I think this is a really interesting take on the series. I love the more small town feel and the digimon being like yokai. I prefer this to the digital worlds of other games.
I'd love it if Digimon went with the platformer+arpg route that only Ys seems to do. These characters would be perfect for some tricky bits of platforming action and rock solid arpg combat.
Well, not quite as good as Ys (it's very unpolished in fact), but I think the closest we had for that was Digimon World 4, check it out if you haven't yet.
Thank you for a great review and being honest I'll definitely be giving this a go .
This game seems so divisive. I'm pretty tempted to give this game a go. I've never really delved into the Visual Novel realm before though so I really have no idea if I'll like it or not. Do you think this game would be good in bite size chunks instead of lengthy sessions? Finding time for lengthy gaming sessions is a very rare occurrence for me these days sadly
You can save any time instantly! So even during dialogue. The only problem in my opinion is if you start a battle, specifically a long one. The maps are big and the enemies run around and it could take you a few minutes to knock a battle out. Are you a Digimon fan to begin with? Because I’m not into VNs typically but I absolutely love Digimon and loved this game.
Honestly, it could be tricky. There could be times when these bite size chunks would mean only advancing the text a bit. So, it may depend on how much you enjoy the characters to have even a small bit of text progress feel like a good time.
Honestly buy it if you like Digimon and if you like VN cuz if you don't. You won't enjoy it. I like the game but the srpg portion of this is very lacking. If I was judge the this game on the merit of its srpg alone then I would rate this 6/10. That might sound harsh but I've been a big fan of srpg like disgea fire emblem. Ffta and fft. So... yeah.
@@DuskWolf99 Yeah definitely a fan of Digimon and of sRPGs. Just unsure if I'm a VN fan as I don't think I've ever played a VN before that I can think of.
i played this on a switch lite, i couldnt give it more than 30 minutes in one sitting. by the 6th hour i decided that there are better ways to spend my time. i sold the game and bought Live A Live.
this game reminds me of smt devil survivor series
I really like the game!
I love you
we really like you
My trusted vn reviewers! Surprised its not as bad as thought it'd be
I hope they give me a more combat focused section in dlc. Honestly I bought it hoping that it'd be a near clone of Pokemon conquest battle wise with a better story.
There are post game dungeons I think
@@kanchomerocks12 great. I love the game but I'm so bad with my attention span that for the prologue I quite actually fell asleep trying to get through it. 3 separate times.
I like the look of the game and I don't mind it being primarily a visual novel....but no English VO seems like a big miss for a game like this.
@Kei* Fei Ku not entirely true, digimon world next order is very niche and got a dub. Also the ai somnium games are also pretty niche and got a dub
@Kei* Fei Ku I wouldn't say I'm whining lol, just commenting that a feature that should be included in a $60 visual novel release is missing, and the game's appeal to me is significantly lower as a result. Digimon isn't even a small IP.
13 Sentinels got English VO. Why couldn't this have gotten it?
I agree with you.
@Kei* Fei Ku *Cough*Cough* SMT:IV(2013)
Im not gonna gonna complain about the visual novel it look fantastic however, i will say i dont like the combo of tactics paired with the visual novel.
It needs to be a completely seperate game
It takes inspiration from games like Tear to Tiara for sure.
Honestly.. I'm glad they chose to go for this type of hybrid Strategy-novel.
There's sadly not that many games in this niche genre nowadays even though it has a ton of potential.
it's good to see a relatively popular series like digimon give it some of the push it desperately needs to evolve.
tbh I'd say until now this type of game has almost always been a hit or miss, it's really hard to get right.
there has been some pretty great ones like SMT: Devil Survivor but I'm pretty sure it's far from the norm as things stand.
Hopefully now that this and Utawarerumono seem to be doing well with casual audiences we might finally end up seeing a breakthrough in this genre within the next few years
I don't really hate the visual aspect of the game but the battle system itself is something I don't really like.. ya know that gameplay with grid ....also I feels like the list of digimon is pretty underwhelming
At least Shenmue 3 got the Unreal Engine treatment with it's massive waste of time and effort.
A little padded is the biggest understatement of the year. I genuinely don't know how anyone can like the story when so much of it is repetitive and brings nothing new to the table. But hey that's just me.
I think VN readers have grown use to the repetition across routes. But I haven't played this game yet - Azario
Japanese sounds like Spanish. Nice
Share similar phonetics(sound of words and sentences)
VN? Hard pass
@Kei* Fei Ku Why are you so upset I don't want to play a boring game?
@Kei* Fei Ku the game sucks. deal with it. sorry.
