On the Sing Off they were diamonds in the rough, now they've worked off their rough edges and are brilliantly shining in all their glory for the whole world to see. Love these guys more every time I hear them.
Everything about this song was Spectacular !!! Home Free is my favorite group, I listen to them several times every single day and this song has just topped all their others. I cant stop listenening, these 5 guys make Magic when they are together.
They did an upgrade of a song they did in the past. Austin looks so much more grown up with the beard and mustache. Such a beautiful version of this song. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to these songs.
Hi Lyle. Thanks for doing both versions. It’s fun to see them side by side. And it’s great see Rob shine along side Austin in the new rendition…both so smooth and soulful. Loved your reaction as always
Oh gosh, I remember watching the Sing-Off version, once it was available online since I couldn't see it air here in Europe, and being so disappointed that the judges completely took over and so clearly tried to outdo both eachother and Home Free. I'm so glad they released this version, with the maturity that they've gained as singers making it the best version of this song (imho). Thanks for the reaction, Lyle! 🥰
I had seen the sing off version just once, I think! This version is just so beautiful, with Austin and Rob going back and forth with the solo and all the backup vocals, harmonies and Adam keeping things together with the beat! Always love your Home Free reactions!🏡🍟
Looking back, the 3 Sing Off judges kind of made the song all about themselves, and not Home Free. Kind of drowned them out even. Glad the boys revisited this one with a "Tahe that, judges!' rendition that was so much better. You go, my guys!
Exactly right. They really are men now, so much more mature. This new video is wonderful!!!! It really is night and day how far they've come. Thank you Lyle!!!!
This is so gorgeous. The bell tones knock me out every time. Such luscious harmonies, perfect percussion and two great leads. Fabulous. And the bonus of Adam Rupp singing for a bit.
One of the songs I have been listening to for as long as I can remember. (I'm from 1963) First the LP, later I always had it on one of my cassette tapes, then I got the CD and in recent years I usually have it on one of my playlists. Although many versions had been released in the meantime, it was usually the version by Ben E. King or Otis Redding. But from now on it is the version of Home Free that is on my playlist and no other. Alternating the lead between Austin's powerful voice and Rob's soft soulful voice just sounds so beautiful and fantastic. Then the unparalleled vocal percussion, truly phenomenal. The great bass and beautiful harmony are the finishing touch.
I just love your Home Free reactions! This was so good! How lucky are we Home Fry’s that we get to listen to 2 elite tenors share the lead, 2 elite basses fill out the middle and hold down the bottom and a beatboxer extraordinaire! Just love these boys! ❤
You really hit it on the nail !! Four elite singers and an extraordinary percussionist together, how can we be so lucky !!! This is just Fabulous, just beautiful and spine tingling !!
Because this particular song has been one of my all time favorites by Ben E. King, this version by HF was utterly spectacular because of their maturity and voice arrangement of the song, especially the bell tone effects that were added. This has moved to the very top of my favorite HF list. I began with a top 5, but as time has gone by my list has grown to my Top 25 because there are so many that are so good, and it is nearly impossible to eliminate any from the list.
They're so much more mature now and l know which version l prefer! I love your interpretation of the difference between the first version and this one.
I never thought I'd love a version of this awesome song better than the original until Home Free put their magic touch on it. It's so beautiful it takes my breath away and makes me cry. I honestly don't understand how these guys can continually get better and better, and they make it look effortless, which isn't the truth because nobody works harder for their fans than they do. There is a lot of great music out there, but nothing else affects my heart like these guys. This performance by Home Free is 1000% better than the Sing Off version. This version has much more heart and emotion in it. I always enjoy your reaction, you do a great job. Thanks.
A big part of Home Free's charm is that you can see how much they care, not only for their audience but for each other. Puts a beautiful spin on the whole concept of "Stand By Me".
Fantastic reaction! I felt the same way. I particularly liked when Austin and Rob would briefly sing together as they switched verses. That was a really cool transition.
I had forgotten about The Sing-Off version until you played it, I love how they have matured in their singing and the production. This version is so sweet! Thanks, Lyle, for doing this today. I'm pretty sure that I've seen almost all the Home Free videos that you have done, more than once! But I'm going to check it out when I have an hour to sit.
Oh how good was that? Bloody good lol To be honest I had not watched much of Home Free for a while...but now 'I'm Back!" lol I loved their version of this song. I think they all look gorgeous and Rob to me even looks younger... Those harmonies are just smooth as silk. I'm going to their channel to have another look and 'like' Great reaction Lyle as per usual. Thanks for reminding me to get back to Home Free,
What an amazing 10 year journey this has been!!! HF just has that something extra that catapults them above the other groups! Great reaction Lyle! Whenever I listen to them sing a song like this, I feel like I'm wrapped up in a warm blanket in front of a fireplace! Love HF and love your channel! Howdy from a Texas Home Fry! 🤠
The audio is pre-recorded and studio mixed and not recorded at the same time as the video for all their videos, unless the live ones. They do sound equally good live, though.
Great review! I wish you’d do the other songs together. I didn’t know they’d done this one on The Song Off. The #HomeFreeGuys are absolutely incredible singers/writers/arrangers, as well as being just good men. I’ve been able to go to two of their concerts and had front-row, UVIP seats, which were incredible!!! I can’t wait to see them again!!! HomeFryForLife ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the double feature! I had not seen this version from the "Sing Off". Love this great classic song from Ben E. King back in 1961. The Home Free guys did an awesome version as always. Love their arrangement on this cover. Great vocal leads by Austin & Rob. Tim's bass really stands out for me in this one. And Adam's tasteful vocal percussion is on point.
Hey, I live in Maine, and it's been kind of a shitshow here the past few days with a lot of sadness and anger and grief to process. This song (which I've always loved, since the original Ben E. King version right up to this brilliant cover that absolutely does it justice) was very necessary for me in this moment, and your reaction warms my heart so much. Thank you and I hope you're having a blessed day. I hope everyone is
Thank you so much. Still a lot to work through but my goal in this moment is to be a light. And I've heard from and spoken with friends and family that I honestly should have been doing the legwork to keep in touch with for too long, and we've had some really nice and cathartic talks. So to you and anyone else who might read this comment one day, don't be afraid to reach out to your friends. They want to talk to you as much as you want to talk to them
I think most people missed this because it is from when they went back on the Season 5 show. Pentatonix was on the season 4 show and talked to Home Free and the other groups that were left in the competition and Home Free did the same for season 5.
This is really smart of them too because they are independant, they own the rights to these songs now. Like what Taylor Swift is doing with her old music.
This song was the perfect vehicle for both Austin and Rob's voices as lead. Although we all are aware that any of these men could sing together and kill it! My fsvorite part is when they break to Adam Rupp singing harmony with the other four. Rob and Austin together is never a wrong choice. They didn't just sing. They shined!
You know Austin had to have a serious case of hero worship going on singing with Shawn. In the new version, Adam's vocal part in the breakdown really added to the harmonies. The handoffs between Rob and Austin were SO smooth.
Maybe the word you’re meaning to say is “evolved”. They did a beautiful cover!! Those bell tones are gorgeous in the background during the verses. The ending gives me chills! Love this cover!! It’s made my favorites list! Grand reaction, Lyle! Side note: The judge who filled in this season for Ben Folds is Patrick Stumpf from the group Fallout Boy.
I think this was from season 5 and that guy in the hat is Patrick Stump who replaced Ben Folds. I think this is the obligatory previous season winner performance from Home Free in season 5 as they won season 4. I believe Pentatonix also had a performance in season 4 after their win from season 3.
You are correct. This was a holiday special for season 5 and I believe both Home Free and Pentatonix performed in this special. Ben Folds was on tour during season 5.
Love this! Thanks for listening to both HF versions. I think it would have been awesome if Shawn came in and finished the last little bit with Austin, just like they did in The Sing Off. It would have brought the song full circle for HF. Love, love, love this. Thank you for doing this reaction.
Thanks for your reaction Lyle - it was a great idea to compare the two versions side by side. I love this latest version and agree with other posters that the Sing Off version was much too busy with all the judges chiming in and trying to take over (however they are all enormously talented - would have loved to see Ben Folds instead of the other guy who I don't know at all). You get to see how tall the HF guys are standing next to Patrick and Shawn! 😆
Great way of doing it Lyle I agree this is a more mature version but the influences remain the same musically I think this is the best rendition of this song ever.
Look how tall the Home Free guys are compared to the judges . Rob is 6’3” and Tim, Austin, Adam and Chris are 6’2”. The new version is AWESOME. Love the sound of descending bells. 😊
I had not seen the Sing Off version either! Those judges are short!! The guys were obviously awesome then but maturity has brought a fuller, richer rendition.
Thanks for doing the double! "Matured" is definitely the word. The Sing-Off Season 5 version looked prerecorded and lip-synced, at least by some of the judges. I did like Shawn & Austin riffing together at the end. But, the new version is definitely better! The new version (IMO) highlighted the stylistic differences between Rob and Austin, but together... dynamite! (Both men were excellent.)
When they are intermixed with the judges is the first inkling you really get of how tall they all are. When it is just the five of them, it isn't obvious. When they are standing next to Jewel and Nick, it is clear that they are all at least 4 inches taller.
Love how 'smooth' this is with a hint of jazz, blues. Easy on the ears. Stripped down. (Watched the 'Sing Off' when HF competed. That 'production' doesn't begin to compare to what the guys are capable of now.) For a brief moment, get to enjoy their 5-part harmonies. Always like seeing Adam lending his singing voice. (Miss his signature bandana.) Holding out hope we'll see Chance out front in one of their upcoming releases. For those of us who go back to the early days of The Nylons, the ending of this was bit similar to some of their work.
Your comment about the added maturity is spot on. Especially Austin has more richness to his voice. It is still bright and present but there is an extra depth that wasn't there 10 years ago. Also the addition of Chance has added more depth to the middle range of the group as a whole. Nice observation.
This is so very awesome! This song gives me goosebumps, especially when they do their 5-part harmonies when Adam Rupp sings. With all due respect for the original artists Home Free don't do covers they do upgrades. Love your reaction!
The Sing-Off version by the Judges was soooo over the top. LOVE HF'S version here. They beautifully sing the pleading call to "Stand By Me". The harmonies and tasteful embellishments are a feast for the ears.
The 3d judge for all of the sing off for HF was Ben Folds. I have no idea who that singer who replaced him here is. Maybe someone knows? Very fun to see both of these together. Thx Lyle
I'd never seen the Sing Off version. I guess they wanted all the judges to join in but it sounded a bit of a mess to me. Obviously the newer version benefits from proper studio production, but you're right - it's clear how much their voices and performance have matured. A very very classy cover of a classic song.
The first one was the judges and HF as background, but their favorit was allowed to sing the first vers. But HF's own version are what the song should Sound like, with the HF touch. They never disapoint.
Speaking for myself, personally.....one of the things I love about Home Free (aside from their enormous talent)....is the fact that they are manly men. Not a wussy boy in the bunch. 😍 They are redoing all their Sing Off songs on the new album.
In the Sing Off version, Jewell wasn't there. I love the addition of Chance to the group. They got to arrange this version themselves, I feel like that makes a big difference. Hard to believe that the guys just keep getting better all of the time!! '
I hadn't previously seen the Sing Off one either - I thought the way they lined them up was to try to distance the men away from HF. It's not that the other men were height challenged but that the men in HF are all around 6' - 6'4"(Rob). Austin also has a solo version of the song on his channel. I love their new rendition of it 'cuz the Sing Off one (apart from the 1st verse) really just had them singing back-up.
Lyle bro -- 100%!!! We love the SingOff stuff with HF ... it's what they aspired to be, what they were discovering "of" themselves (unlocking the inspiration); perfectly happy with being "background" vs the spotlight (as here and with Jewel). The "10 yrs later", is what they've become ... yet, still the same. They've truly unlocked and revealed their talents without "ego" or selfishness. Their "background" still shines and my gosh so so damn good!!! Thanks, do appreciate the realizations! Be Safe
I love this updated version so much more. The sing off version was how the producers wanted it done, to me it was just to showcase the judges, not Home Free which wasn't fair at all. I really like th dual reaction series. Great reaction!😊❤
I much prefer the current version but then I never saw the sing off and i’ve no idea who the other people were. And they have matured beautifully ❤🏴
And don't forget Lyle.....your/our relationship with them is also more mature. And, with my admitted bias, Chance compliments Tim's low end emensely! Great reaction my friend!
I believe that singer was Patrick Stump from the group Gym Class Heroes. He was a judge for the final season 5 of the Sing-off and Home Free was the return guest singers for that season because they won the previous season 4. Just as Pentatonix made an appearance in season 4 when Home Free was competing because PTX had won in season 3. They brought the previous winners back as guests for the next season.
The first was too many trying too hard to top each other. With Home Free they never over sing and compete with each other. We need Adam to sing a lead. It's always so great when he sings. Maybe if enough Home Fries ask for it he will do one just for us. Thanks, Lyle.
Don’t like the judges joining in! HF is so much better than they are. Also, HF has grown and their new version is much better than when they were in Singoff. I have a new favorite. Didn’t know anyone could do this song as well as Ben E. King singing with The Drifters back when I was 16. HF makes such beautiful music, this is so very good. Thank you for your reaction. Loved it!
I had not seen the first version either. But that isn’t their competition version, I think this one was done on a special or something, because yes, that is a different judge as well, and Austin’s hair is longer than it was in the Sing-off competition.
Awesome, just beautiful. 🔥♥️🔥🔥♥️🔥🔥
On the Sing Off they were diamonds in the rough, now they've worked off their rough edges and are brilliantly shining in all their glory for the whole world to see. Love these guys more every time I hear them.
Well said! Agree 💯
So far you’re the only reactor that caught Austin and Rob singing that part together “whenever we’re in Trouble”. That’s really beautiful!
It really is gorgeous. I'm trying to recall when else we might have heard just the two of them.
@@nancyholter5646 Austin and Rob sing alone on Nessun Dorma a really awesome song 👏🏽👏🏽🤠🤠
@@janewestpoldskrvseth true, and they DO harmonize for a bit there. But I was thinking of HF songs.
Everything about this song was Spectacular !!! Home Free is my favorite group, I listen to them several times every single day and this song has just topped all their others. I cant stop listenening, these 5 guys make Magic when they are together.

You’re absolutely right about the 3 Sing Off judges AND Nick Lachey making the performance more about them than Home Free!
I am such a sucker for Home Free's bell tones 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔 And I love whenever Adam becomes the 5th vocalist!
Just gorgeous❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Exactly right. They really are men now, so much more mature. This new video is wonderful!!!! It really is night and day how far they've come. Thank you Lyle!!!!

Yes! What you said.
I knew you'd like the bells.
So good! Home Free is a multi-talented group of men. You, I know, agree!
Lyle, I owe you a debt of gratitude. It is thru your channel that I discovered Home Free. Many thanks...
Lol, just doing my job.
Home Free is too good for words ... simply glorious !
One of the songs I have been listening to for as long as I can remember. (I'm from 1963) First the LP, later I always had it on one of my cassette tapes, then I got the CD and in recent years I usually have it on one of my playlists. Rob's abilities were underrated during the Sing-off. Thanks HF for standing strong behind him for 'Colder Weather'.
Oh how good was that? Bloody good lol To be honest I had not watched much of Home Free for a while...but now 'I'm Back!" lol I loved their version of this song. Just realized what great place and accoustics in a curved machine shed! Luscious harmonies, ear candy front to back!
The audio is pre-recorded and studio mixed and not recorded at the same time as the video for all their videos, unless the live ones. They do sound equally good live, though.

I think he's going to be doing both, from this point on, as the others are released. 😊
The Sing Off judges all were totally over the top in their singing. Like a lesson in what not to do.
Good analogy, totally agree with you😊
Thanks, Lyle, for all your Home Free reactions!
Gave me goosebumps. Voices amazing as always. I really loved Adam's transition from vocals back into percussion.
Thanks for the double feature! I had not seen this version from the "Sing Off". Love this great classic song from Ben E. King back in 1961. The Home Free guys did an awesome version as always. You're exactly right, it's a more seasoned version. Love it 🥰🥰
My gracious! How great was that!!! ❤
Lyle, the judge you said you didn't know is Patrick Stump. He's the little guy with the black hat.
I agree their sound is fuller and more mature. This is my favorite track on their As Seen on TV album.
This is really smart of them too because they are independant, they own the rights to these songs now. Like what Taylor Swift is doing with her old music.

I wonder how much rehearsal they had for the show.
It wasn't their choice, I would imagine, to have the judges join in, it was just the way that they did it with ensemble numbers.
Love this one lots! Thanks, Lyle.
I love to hear Adam singing too!!
I absolutely loved this version. Always enjoy your reactions. Hope you have a great day.
Thank you
The version they did with the Sing Off judges was done during season 5, a year after they won Season 4.
The first one was the judges and HF as background, but their favorit was allowed to sing the first vers.
But HF's own version are what the song should Sound like, with the HF touch.
They never disapoint.
Sean always did love Austin.
Speaking for myself, personally.....one of the things I love about Home Free (aside from their enormous talent)....is the fact that they are manly men. Not a wussy boy in the bunch. 😍 They are redoing all their Sing Off songs on the new album.
I've never seen the sing off performance!! I'm confused!! Anyway... Home Free sounds better than the judges!! The new version is stunning!!
In the Sing Off version, Jewell wasn't there. I love the addition of Chance to the group. They got to arrange this version themselves, I feel like that makes a big difference. Hard to believe that the guys just keep getting better all of the time!!
'
Jewel was clearly there, I both heard and saw her just now in Lyle's reaction.
@@carinalindberg7377 She looked so different to me that I didn't recognize her.😄
@@mjackson780 😂 I don't know what you've seen of her, but she liked like herself to me 😁
More thoughtful, perhaps? Whatever it was, it was beautiful.
I like the present version much better !!! Their sound is so much more mature, full and better in my opinion
And don't forget Lyle.....your/our relationship with them is also more mature. And, with my admitted bias, Chance compliments Tim's low end emensely! Great reaction my friend!
I love Chance! I feel like he is overlooked way to often.
Full disclosure I have been close friends with Chance many years ....way before Home Free.@@mjackson780
Yes, that’s a different judge.😊
In the Sing Off Austin and Tim were promoted way more than Rob or Chris were.....
You also gotta take into consideration that Chance was not with them when they did this on the sing off❕❗
