If you guys think this is bad... This is actually a good performance. I can only imagine what they are like at their best.

this is a pretty bad performance for him, but appropriate for the era. his voice was slowly but surely leaving him starting around 2008

For me personally the end of rock and roll was around this time... bands like the darkness, airbourne, jet (even Tesla and some other great stuff from around the early 2000s but, as rainbow said it "Long Live Rock n Roll"

This band has a lot of respect. Unfortunately egos and drug abuse did a huge disservice to it but still they made great records and now they are back having reinvented themselves with a new sound with more afro caribbean influences mixed with their electronic vibes.

fans of the mars volta are so fucking critical. if you are gonna talk shit about them, just dont listen to them. I love the mars volta, and I think this is a pretty alright performance, you can't expect them to be at their best all the time, I mean they are getting old for fucks sake. I love everything this band does, one of my favorites for sure and I know their next record is gonna be epic as fuck, as always.

@JEC703 I agree people shouldn't be so critical, as far as them getting old, haha they aren't even that old. The members of Rush are approaching 60 and are still giving excellent performances, these guys have a long way to go before they start getting "old." Peace friend.

You know what, I watched this video, commented "awesome", then read the comments posted before to discover apparently he reads some lyrics off some paper. Didn't even notice!

  • @andthemushrooms123
    @andthemushrooms123 12 років тому +12

OK; Cedric has said in interviews that TMV's lyrics are secondary to the music. AND I'd rather see a singer reading the lyrics from a piece of paper than forget them completely (he only looked at said paper once or twice and their words are hard to remember anyway) and Id rather hear a singer hit some wrong notes than them lip sync. Sometimes you may not feel like going crazy so maybe the band just felt more like standing chilled and putting their energy into the music rather than showmanship.

  • @Iknowaghost19

To be fair, it is a tad unprofessional to look at lyrics during a set. HOWEVER, consider how much music this guy has pumped out? Not only in TMV but in ATDI and his band before. We're not talking about Justin Biebers wit 1 hit wonders, we're talking about guys who have hundreds and hundreds of different songs. Shit, he's bound to forget a few words at some point. Especially when most TMV songs are 20 minutes long haha. I grew up listening to this dudes voice, I fucking love it

why would anyone expect them to play the exact same version like the studio...there was like 4 other invited musicians there was a lot of editin,it probably took them a week to record this song and anyone trying to sing this song for 5 minutes at the same pitch would shit their pants....its like asking pink floyd to play echoes the exact same way everytime...really good performance

@uncrules To bands like TMV and others who choose to make songs the way they want, and do what pleases them, the fans are an added bonus. People who follow a band like this have an interest in their style of music and usually won't put expectations on the band because the band is already making the kind of music they enjoy. I'm sure TMV like their fans and would like them at their shows, but at the same time, if they were playing in front of 20 or 20,000 I don't think it would matter to them.

I love the Volta, and I respect their way of thinking: Putting expectations deep into a locked chest so as not to undermine their creativity.
But still man, sometimes you just get fuckin' sick of finally hearing your favorite song and it ends up just sounding like a pile of pots that's others constantly thrown at it.
But that is also where the contradiction springs into view, why make music for people when you're just gonna say "fuck you we don't care what you want."?

Cedric is the only one with any form of stage pressence... It's like he's playing with a backing band, the rest of the band are standing at the back of the stage.
    They're playing really tight though

man, this band's lost a lot of their energy. their stage presence when I saw them in the frances-amputechture stage was way more intriguing.
    still good music though
