@@Guitargate You don't make the mistake I've seen a lot of these reactions make where you just explain the joke, you've added so much to the thing by making this video! Earned a subscriber here, definitely!
It's really great to get the commentary on the musicality of the piece, because music is such a huge part of Bo's repertoire, but it's obviously not something that the layperson can comment on with this kind of depth. Shifting from a carnival vibe to a bluesy/jazzy tone and then back again is a really neat journey to take in a song.
I so agree with this & haven't looked at one "reaction" until this. This person can play, read music, & speak of the quality of the music PLUS you get his reaction to the lyrics, which is the priceless part!
First reaction to this where I see someone geeking out to the musical composition instead of focusing on the lyrics, while not leaving them by the wayside either. I love your style, have a sub.
I love how genuinely excited you look at all the little things Bo did. It's the joy you get from something you're passionate about, and not just doing to make a video, and it shows.
fun fact: bo burnham doesn’t know how to read music. when he “writes” music, he just sits down at his piano, creates a random sequence of chords in his head, then memorizes it and writes lyrics
This is also true of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Irving Berlin. In Berlin's case, he'd play the music and an assistant would write the sheet music for what he was playing.
Michael's reactions to the video and lyrics are so genuine it's hilarious to see his facial expressions. 1:34 Alright, this song is awesome but let me try to keep this about the music. 3:12 hold...hold on. Let me recover from that line. 4:04 Let me try to make this about the music again. 6:48 WAIT WHAT JUST HAPPENED 8:00 Come on, self. Keep it about the music. 8:51 STOP IT RIGHT NOW WHAT DID HE DO 10:54 SHUDDUP PHONE I'M TRYING TO MAKE A POINT. 12:07 CAN HE DO THAT??? That's not supposed to happen! 12:41 This song is beautiful... 14:34 Ok, I give up. Let's just sit back and appreciate this.
I love how cold you went in with this one, expecting something completely different. It was fun watching you try to dissect the music and then getting kind of swept up in the draw of the song, and having to try and bring yourself back to present. I'd love to see you react to his others!
It's a song of a mastermind that keeps sending enemies to protagonist and makes the protag strong. He knows that Power reveals and corrupt people so he just keep sending them. Just like internet, we crave for more and the more were on internet the more cursed we'll get
He's all of the con men ( the internet has it all) . He's a carnie trying to get u to play a game, He's a snake oil salesman. He's a palm reader on boubon st. He's all of that and more
I've watched about 40 Bo Burnham reactions over the last few days ( Yes I know, this is where my life is currently) but I came back to yours to say it was by far the best. No one else I've watched has showed a solid understanding of the meaning of the song while also giving credit to his singing, musical talent and even his production methods. You're awesome man, keep it up! #Subbed
After having seen a glimpse of what Bo's been going through, I hope he sees videos like this. Not just random internet people praising him, but just another musician like him admiring what he wrote and reacting to it, along with trying to play along on the guitar. I imagine it might make him smile a bit, I'm glad you made this :)
Going over the lyrics really draws out how ominous the middle part is. Bo is gentle and sing-songy but his words are screaming "it's a trap!" "We set our sights, and spent our nights, waiting for you" "It did all the things we designed it to do" "It was always the plan, to put the world in your hand" Then he yanks away the gentleness and it's just: buckle up, this train ain't stopping.
Man I was so interested to see what you did with this video. When comedians use music nobody stops to think if the music is any good. Myself included, it's really cool to see this and I'm curious if you watch the whole special "Inside" which this is from what your thoughts are.
I think the music is great. He has very legitimate musical talent and songwriting ability. The music outshines the comedy in much of the special, but it also works together very well.
I play the guitar and have somewhat approximate knowledge of music, and I've always been so impressed by how strong Bo's stuff is musically. If it wasn't so silly and sometimes situational, his songs would be absolute bangers. Musically, a lot of them are masterpieces in my opinion.
I'd love to hear your reaction after watching the whole special. Each little nugget and song is incredible, but the whole thing together is a masterpiece. Thank you for helping me appreciate this fantastic song even more!
Your reaction was absolutely wonderful. The faces and frustrations you expressed were incredibly relatable; I have the exact same reactions when I am trying to figure out a rough part in a piece, let alone trying to dissect a song you are listening to. Absolutely wonderful, watching a reaction that provided more than just someone to watch the content with. I think a lot of your viewers wouldn't mind the more in-depth details you started to get into near the beginning, especially with how passionate and hands-on you are.
Everyone always talks about the lyrical aspect of Bo's songs (and rightfully so), so it's great to watch someone breakdown the actual musical aspect. 👍
I see tons of love for his lyrics and over all musicality, and his talent as a comedian, but it's great to see someone pick apart and appreciate the actual music itself. For Bo's many talents, one of them is he's an insanely talented musician, and exacting in his choice of not only notes and lyrics, but in the tone of his delivery. Your take in this reaction is so genuine and fun to watch. Great content, man!
This is a perfect and one of kind video. I respect what Bo has done tremendously (long time fan) and your videos have inspired me to play more and better understand how to play. This is the first video I've ever seen where someone gets to experience Bo's comedy genius for the first time and has the ability/opportunity to appreciate not only the context of the song but the musicianship of it as well. Bo is a creative genius for sure, he filmed, edited and produced the entire special (many more videos) by himself. 11/10 content
I literally love this. I just think it's really wholesome how amazed and fascinated he looks when hearing everything It's just pure excitement and that just really puts a smile on my face :D
This is my second favorite video this week, after Bo Burnham's "Welcome To The Internet". I have never touched a guitar. Subbed in hopes of some more Bo breakdowns.
I love how as he's listening to the song, he's trying to fiddle around with his guitar. A little before the 10 min mark when he's rewinding and figuring it out, it was like he was tasting the song and trying to decipher exactly what flavor it was. This was really interesting to watch! I also loved when he'd try playing along and sometimes just end up jamming a bit. I'm not very knowledgeable about music theory, but that's how it seemed to me. This was great :))) Edit: it's just really impressive to me how he's able to pick apart the music itself and play it back and identify things so easily.
That's kindof how I learn a lot of songs, and for people who do that its pretty common. I can read sheet music but I was always just better at memorizing tones so like playing a guitar I'll be fooling around, accidentally play something familiar, and then hyper focus on figuring out the rest of whatever that piece of music was entirely by ear. I actually just figured out the Kokiri Forest theme from the video game Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on my own actual ocarina (small ceramic flute like instrument)
@@fangsabre i used to be in elementary and middle school band as a flute player, then took a few piano lessons. Despite all that, i'm still not very good with my relative pitch or reading sheet music lmao. I'd love to be able to get more into piano, but it takes a lot of focus to figure things out in that way. I have major respect for you and your ability to just hyper focus like that (i'm not super into Zelda, but it has some iconic music :P). Guess it's just on me to sit the hell down and try things out.

Dude, I’ve been on a Bo Burnham reaction marathon and you’re the first ever person that I felt such an accurate and descriptive musical deconstruction of this song. I come from a family of musicians and just hearing a musician trying to learn a song on the spot and then getting it down is so satisfying. Good job, great review, and amazing musical talent.
He did it all on his own! So he likely reshot that song multiple times for the different angles. Or maybe there's hidden cameras... but in some of the songs from the special you see there aren't cameras where there would need to be for certain angles. He worked for over a year on this! Bo Burnham has been my favorite comedian for years... he's blunt, intellectual, raw, authentic... and really, a true artist overall. You should react to more by him!!! From the special, "That Funny Feeling" (it's slower) or "Comedy," and from outside of the special "Repeat Stuff" or "Left Brain, Right Brain" or "From God's Perspective" 👏🏽
@@captainprometheus3102 Not many people have the patience to listen to that song, much less a reactor having time to record, edit, and post their reaction to that masterpiece
I'm not a guitar player, I don't play any instruments for that matter. I have only the most basic of understandings of what you're talking about. But your energy and passion for the art transmits through the screen and I can almost feel it too. And omg the satisfaction when you play the same chords/notes as the song! Your video elevated Bo Burnham's song and musical talent for me. I loved this!
I watched it yesterday and I'm definitely recovering. Helps to remind myself that it's kind of comforting rather than sad that he was able to make art out of such depressing subjects, rather than succumbing to it and letting it take over like I've wanted to let it do to myself.
I love a reaction from someone who truly understands music. I've listened to every song on the special roughly 100 times thanks to Bo's playlist he posted. And I like watching reactions to get that "first time watch" feel again. But this one takes the cake, not many reactors can pick apart everything going on in Bo's songs. React to more from the special, please! Namely That Funny Feeling and 30.
A lot of people like to soullessly to whatever is trending just standing in the background but few channels can captivate you with their intelligently rich feedback. You are the second kind. Keep at it
To see someone appreciate the intricacies of someone’s craft like this is is so cool to see. It’s like you’re dissecting and explaining all the little details of WHY I love the music hating I would never be able to articulate or understand on a technical level
The more I listen to the song, especially with the breakdown you're doing, the more I get a very light Bohemian Rhapsody feeling - tonal shifts and almost genre shifts while feeling like the same song, one complete whole.
I’ve said this on several reactions but I’ll share it here too: The song is set up to have a carnival like vibe, the carny is showing us all the attractions, the facade of happiness is there something seems off but in the first act the melody is keeping us happy but as it goes on it gets increasingly disturbing, the. We hit the first chorus, still keeping up a happy beat but getting repetitive and creepy, the. The second act, the internet is talking directly to the children who’ve grown up with the internet in an obsessive manner talking about how it has shaped and molded them, it talks about the future and how none of us know what it will hold. Then we reach the second chorus, the facade is dropped revealing the madness behind it, same words but a much creepier presentation, the internet is far from benevolent, it was designed to trap you and manipulate you. You have already entered the carnival, there is no escape.
Congratulations. You noticed something obvious and decided to share it with everyone who will read your comment. Have considered that your self-agrandizing reaction is precisely the kind of online participation that he criticizes throughout the special? No one wants to hear "every thought you think."
I'm normally one to get annoyed by reactors pausing too frequently, but none of these felt like an interruption. It was all very informative and fascinating to watch and listen the breakdown of it and the hidden works behind the music. Brilliant reaction, guitar playing and teaching. I loved it.
Bo Burnham is a comedian/writer/musician who has been famous since he was 17 when his first UA-cam video went viral (2007). He hasn’t done anything live since 2015 for reasons he explains in his other video “All eyes on me.” Both of those songs are from his brand new special Inside on Netflix. It was shot, written, and edited by him over the course of one year in a single room. Please watch it for yourself. It’s amazing.
I love how musically you got sucked into the drop almost exactly how it was designed in the lyrics. Tech companies lured you in with the lullaby and then your face when it you finally realized it was becoming cynical. Perfect response.

what i got from this scene “welcome to the internet” was a villain who had already won- a villain that created the internet (or if they didn’t create it, they used it), knew how to get you confused and wrapped up in it, and entice you to stay. how it’s a circus or carnival, and how we (humans) are on display to show our stupidity and vapid thoughts. thoughts that never actually end up helping or changing the world.

You can see the insane amount of appreciation Michael has for this song
@@Guitargate You don't make the mistake I've seen a lot of these reactions make where you just explain the joke, you've added so much to the thing by making this video! Earned a subscriber here, definitely!
Yeah, very much enjoyed this
14:31 when Michael just gets awestruck and gives up is the best/ funniest part.
Totally agree!!
Thank you!!

Source?
Source?
He tweeted it in 2017
This is also true of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Irving Berlin. In Berlin's case, he'd play the music and an assistant would write the sheet music for what he was playing.
Thats how I do music, as a pianist.
Michael's reactions to the video and lyrics are so genuine it's hilarious to see his facial expressions.

I love how cold you went in with this one, expecting something completely different. It was fun watching you try to dissect the music and then getting kind of swept up in the draw of the song, and having to try and bring yourself back to present. I'd love to see you react to his others!
Same!
It’s a weird thing to encounter out of context.
Loved watching his brain break and couldn’t even play along just had to listen love it
Yes please! I've seen other reaction videos to his other songs in this special, but nothing like this!
you're awesome and inspire me to learn more. Right on brotha!
I read a comment somewhere that said this was like a villain song but like, it's a song where the villain has already actually won
It's a song of a mastermind that keeps sending enemies to protagonist and makes the protag strong. He knows that Power reveals and corrupt people so he just keep sending them. Just like internet, we crave for more and the more were on internet the more cursed we'll get
@@user-ov2kx8ql5i im high, and this is just too much
To be fair, the internet has already hooked everyone so it has won.
He's all of the con men ( the internet has it all) . He's a carnie trying to get u to play a game, He's a snake oil salesman. He's a palm reader on boubon st. He's all of that and more
The internet has won, so yes; the villain already won.

You know Bo is great when he makes someone go from "who is this" to "I love this guy" in 8 minutes 😂
Going over the lyrics really draws out how ominous the middle part is. Bo is gentle and sing-songy but his words are screaming "it's a trap!"
"We set our sights, and spent our nights, waiting for you"
"It did all the things we designed it to do"
"It was always the plan, to put the world in your hand"
Then he yanks away the gentleness and it's just: buckle up, this train ain't stopping.
Thank you sir!!!
I literally love this. I just think it's really wholesome how amazed and fascinated he looks when hearing everything
It's just pure excitement and that just really puts a smile on my face :D
i love seeing people geeking out about something they love. I can't even play the guitar but understand the excitement.
This is my second favorite video this week, after Bo Burnham's "Welcome To The Internet".
I have never touched a guitar. Subbed in hopes of some more Bo breakdowns.
Welcome aboard! MORE TO COME
I love how as he's listening to the song, he's trying to fiddle around with his guitar. This was great :)))
Edit: it's just really impressive to me how he's able to pick apart the music itself and play it back and identify things so easily.

This happened mostly because of this convo and I'm thankful for that. Im starting to learn more of his songs. They're a lot harder because of hand coordinated and my inherent lack of it. Thanks again. You got me thinking about trying piano again :)
You forgot "A World on Fire", easily one of the best songs. :D
@@captainprometheus3102 truly a masterpiece

This whole special put me in a funk for the rest of the week.
I'm still in it.
I watched it yesterday and I'm definitely recovering. Helps to remind myself that it's kind of comforting rather than sad that he was able to make art out of such depressing subjects, rather than succumbing to it and letting it take over like I've wanted to let it do to myself.
Omg yes... in a funk I can't help and I can't stop listening again lol
Like he did at the end, I had to look at myself. And that’s terrifying. But funny. But terrifying.

Watching someone discover Bo for the first time is SUCH a pleasure.
"Inside" feels like a rallying cry to creatives to go forth and create, almost a war-cry or a challenge.
And Bo is the same guy who made the "I am an artist" song
Edit: "art is dead" not "I am an artist"
@@connormcconnell7881 art is dead is really good
Yep!!!
It’s like you’re dissecting and explaining all the little details of WHY I love the music hating I would never be able to articulate or understand on a technical level
don’t know the first thing about guitar but the passion he displays for music is just intoxicating

Well, it was actually designed for managing military intelligence and sharing files between research institutions and colleges.

I love everything Bo did but i didn’t realize how musical he actually is appreciate the breakdown! Adds a whole new layer to this.
I feel like this is new. I don’t remember him being this nuanced musically. He busted his butt on this project for sure.

I love how people who are unfamiliar with Bo see him for the first time and love his work immediately.
The man is a living legend.
what i got from this scene “welcome to the internet” was a villain who had already won- a villain that created the internet (or if they didn’t create it, they used it), knew how to get you confused and wrapped up in it, and entice you to stay. how it’s a circus or carnival, and how we (humans) are on display to show our stupidity and vapid thoughts. thoughts that never actually end up helping or changing the world.

This is by far the best bo burnham reaction video I've seen. I usually hate them but they pop up in my recommended a lot.
You actually put effort into it, you added to it with the guitar lesson and you had some great commentary on the message of it.
It's lovely to see that the musical work can get the same growing looks of surprise and appreciation as the codemy/subject matter gets in most of the reacts of this.
I used to love bringing music to my guitar teacher that he never heard, and see his reaction exactly like yours. The gears start turning right away and you are able to make sense of even what this methodical madman put together. The sign of a great teacher. Bo Burnham is an insanely rare talent that people tend to look over.
Touring around reactions to this piece, clicked on yours, and... I gotta say, I have no interest in learning guitar, so this isn't my channel, but I wish I did, cuz you are tremendously appealing. You were catching all that Bo, AND breaking it down, AND translating it into a lesson, simultaneously? I'm intrigued by what you do, and you do it with such personality. Very nice.

I was dying for this whole video, especially at 3:24 because I’ve listened to this song around 27 times I knew what was coming. Before that part you were like ok this is cool good music kinda weird lyrics but here we go. Then you go opened mouth and start bouncing to the catchy rhythm and slowly see his final form. This is incredible! I love hearing people talk about and analyse what their passionate about, and your talk about the actual lyrics and shots!!! Please do some more on Bo!
One of my favorite parts of the video, is the way that the character’s sunglasses transition in their nature. They go from kind of absurdly funny, to a blank void that’s trying to absorb all that you are, as he triumphantly laughs at the fact that you’ve already lost.
