I think it's admirable that after you went into great depth regarding your complete distaste for Victoria 3 and the direction it's developers have taken, that you're doing your best to bring attention to a game you actually do enjoy. Another way to get into borderless mode for Vic 2 is simply to apply the setting for windowed, when you get the popup saying that the game needs to be restarted, click off this then change it back to borderless. When you change it back to borderless you will get another popup saying to restart the game and when you do the game is in borderless. Its how I've done it up until now and works every time.

Set your task manager to always be ontop of your screen. Cant remember the actual wording for that, but even if a game crashes and stays on your screen, you can access your task manager because it took priority. Huge help. Helps when my vic crashes and takes over all my desktop screens. Look it up to find out how to do it.
hey spud! while i certainly know less about vic2 mp then you do, i would just like to add that if a host is portforwarding, they could use something like "no-ip" to obfuscate their ip if that's a real fear.
That's true, using no-ip or something like it only adds a DNS name "in front" of your real public IP. This method partially hides the real public IP. It's Better than nothing though, since this adds a barrier to entry for those trying to find the "real" IP. For those who want to fully hide their IP and even protect against DDoS attacks: You can run a reverse proxy on something like Cloudflare CDN. (C.F. CDN includes DDoS protection!) This acts as a "middleman" for the port-forwarded traffic. You then use the DNS name from Cloudflare, and share that with players. If it ever gets targeted, your home network is still "safe" since the IP isn't actually your router/gateway. A comment section is probably not the best place for this but oh well. Hope this helps someone! 🦊

Use Radmin VPN instead of hamachy works the exact same way, is more stable and has no issues with firewall, there are problems in rare cases but its usable cna can have up to 50 people per private network, a public network is generarly better but randoms could join your game if on the same network so if you do choose radmin and setup a private network, have the network "admin" (creator) clear it from time to time by kicking inactive people to make the network more efficient

Most German ISPs switched to a Dualstack Lite setup, which gives me and other customers a "unique" and fully functional v6 address, as well as a shared "fake" IPv4 address that is used for connections to websites using the v4 protocol, which however is unusable for hosting or proxy purposes.
I know this is 2 months late but me and my friends have been playing vic2 mp for 2 years now. It works with the "fake" IPv4, you just need to check if your IPv4 changed since you last played and give them the new one if it did.

My isp doesn't allow port forwarding n hamachi sucks. My friends and I used a private network called Radmin that was very stable. More stable then when my other friend would port forward. However, there's only 6 of us so I'm not sure if there is a join limit but it is free n from my experience more stable then port forwarding and hamachi.
Sounds like a pain in the ass to set up and play, it desperately shows how Vic2 needed a good sequel so some of these issues could be addressed, but instead we got a steaming pile of crap, thanks pdx!
About section 3F: I used Hamachi for a while and the out of sync error was something that happened all the time but since I changed to using Radmin VPN it stopped. I only play with one friend so maybe that has something to do with it. Help: So, beginning yesterday I've been having a problem whenever I try to load a save on multiplayer. Each time the game says Compression error and just keeps loading the save forever. Do you know what may be causing this issue or how to fix it? I know this video is 1 year old now but I would really appreciate if you could at least read this comment. Thank you.
The thing about Hamachi and Radmin is interesting, but we always prefer port forwarding. The less players you play with the less insability, so desyncing is very unlikely with 2 people, that's probably why. As for your other problem I've never heard of it so the best I can do is invite you ask on my discord, there are loads of players who can help.

The only slight way in which you could, is that the host can see the IP addresses connected to them which is weird and very unlikely for a host to do because they're the one giving their IP out anyway. But no players can see it I believe

That settings.txt file was in my steam folder. There's no Victoria 2 folder in my Documents folder. But anyway, modifying that file still works.
