God this music really makes me miss the late eighties and early nineties.
Same here
Love this period of mid 90s CD-Game music. The new medium pushed sound teams to go further with their game soundtracks.
There is not one bad soundtrack here!
Spybionic never disappoints ;)
Pure greatness from back when the japanese were on the absolute top of the gaming world.
still is
totally agree@@G3E007
yeah western was only ps2 and ps3 era on top of the gaming world@@nicci_dee8292
Realy
Yeah, they still kind of are.
At 2:29 those camera shots as those villains turn to look so cunningly, are so God damn awesome and dynamic! I love the rich colors too! That was how real anime looked and moved!
I still have my TG-CD and still play most of the games. They are still fun and challenging to play today as they were in the 90s
5:56 yeah that's easily the best version
Absolutely unmatched by any release since! I love that track, and most of the tracks from the Rhondo of Blood game CD.
46:27
Rayxanber's soundtracks are so unbelievably good, I've never even played the game but this track makes me want to ascend to a higher plane of existence
So I've played the game and I can confidently say that the shooting sound completely ruins the soundtrack and makes me want to tear my ears off
Thanks for the update. I'm sorry your rayxanber journey was a disappointment, but at least we have good tunes!

Haha it's all good, Rayxanber II I found to be perfectly playable, albeit about with a difficulty curve equal to slamming my head into a brick wall. That said though my foray into the PCE has definitely lead me to some gold mines both in music and gameplay, even games not on this vid like Macross 2036 and Xak III I've been enjoying recently. It really is a superb console.
The audio quality is just great! Congrats for the technic.
I didn't know PC Engine had such good sound chip, great soundtracks!
CD-ROM² and Super CD-ROM² games uses RedBook CD audio for their soundtrack, so the quality is awesome. But even without the CD addon, I find the PC Engine sound chip quite capable. It has its own unique audio signature within the 16-bit generation.
Good list! TG16 CD and Super CD was the king of music in the late 80's and early 90's by far! Red label CD quality music vs. 8 and 16 bit chips, there was no comparison! I loved my TG 16 Super CD system. The system was also king of the shooters in that same time period hand down! But games like Dungeon Explorer II and Neutopia II were gems! Sad that you don't have Langrisser on the list, but with only 30 spots, you gotta select your favorites!
Lords of thunder definitely had the most rocking tracks ever. So bad ass. Man I miss my turbo duo. It had the best music of any system in it's generation.
You forget one of the best Soundtracks on the PCE CD.
Golden Axe
Lemmings
Are amazing 🤩
Wow. This system had a lot of Shooters, huh?
Anyway. The PCE-CD had some Awesome soundtracks.
Terraforming track is good, i stopped what i was doing to see what was playing, love it!
Hey man, still using your vids to get through long nights working in animation. You're valid and I appreciate you
Amazing job with the selection here!! GOAT soundtracks, thank you.
Your Sega Saturn video just made my night, trying on this one for size although I’m a newb to PCE
My god this is an AMAZING compilation
great selection, thanks for putting these together
Wondered how this playlist could be so great, then i saw the creator is from Russia, now it makes sense. They have legendary views and tastes.
That jim power song sounds like an Ys song fascinating i never noticed that before. TurboGrafx Cd Truly has some bangers. I never had one of these consoles!!
Awesome stuff to listen to! Thank you!!
Excellent mix!! A+
Great picks, all good here!!
Great video! Thank you, excelent selection☺️
Lords Of Thunder sounds like Rainbow "Gates Of Babylon"
Hahaha, that Jim Power song sounds even more like Searing Struggle in the CD version
Spectacular! What a compilation !
Awesome playlist, thanks !
Legends were made here
the last song is so nostalgic... i was 14yo when i played ys4
Awesome !
I don't dislike any song in this entire collection. I love the PC Engine!! 😄
Bro with gameplay footage 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dang, the Turbo Grafx is Anime as fudge.
Nice compilation by the way. Got a jolt of nostalgia from some of those 👌
In using this as a " best games on the pc engine" reference. A fantastic collection of audio magic
Superb!
just spent hundreds on pc-engine cd games because of this video lol
Awesome songs
Wow the double dragon one was so u expected. Amazing
thanks it really helped me sleep
que pedazo de compilacion, un 10/10
PC engine is my favourite retro console of all time.
great pick-ups, although of course there are many tons more out there :)
amazing i was playing a super Raiden in the old fashioned flash shooting games on the pc without knowing it
+1 for Last Armageddon
I always use this as music for studying.
This is Epic
10/10
PC Engine CD is nearly the same than the Amiga aera ... Plenty of great games...if a game is not that worth to play the music is ❤❤❤ Still have mine
De très bonne musiques !
Wow I heard all this BGM video games are rock music! GREAT!
Thanks for the great list! Do you think in the future you could do a list of best Hu-Card soundtracks on the PC Engine?
Yes
Thanks
uuggghhh!! :)
I'm just curious what the five people who disliked were expecting. This video shows masterful editing and segues.
The PC Engine is great ...
At 5:56min amazing game and soundtrack!
Fire
the music for Last Armageddon has to be the most unfitting music I've heard in a video game for a long time :D The music is really great, but doesn't fit the game at all :D Hadn't heard Super Raiden music before, daaaayum. Pretty damn awesome.
Sylphia's 1st level theme sounds like Sheila E.'s "A Love Bizarre"
I want a Tubrografx CD so bad but it costs way too much and that's not even including that games..
I don't know your knowledge or comfort with it is, but just emulate it. As old as these games are you are certainly not keeping money out of the makers' hands. I've got a few running on a raspberry pie, but a PC can play all of these games just fine. You'll need the bios file, but google is your friend for all of this.
Get a PC Engine CD(the Japanese version of the console). It's much cheaper and can play American game CDs. You can also play burned games without modding the system, as it has no copyright protection 🙂
Q fiera
gate of thunder has great tracks, best missing here
also Ys has some great tracks, but missing here too (like gates of thunder)
Jim Power stage 1 is insane. I like the SNES version too
Exelent list but I missed one soundtrack from Rondo of Blood, Cross a Fear from stage 2. In my opinion, the best track of this game...
Rocking. Shame the PC Engine was so obscure here in the US back then.
Hi, thank you, i discovered incredible songs here.
There is a little mistake: at 17:18, the first song is:
- Wonder Boy III Monster Lair 05 The Ice World
and not
- Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair - Shinichi Sakamoto - Every Little Helps
Greetings !
Could you please make a video with the best Arcade, MAME, NEO GEO soundtracks? Thank you ! :)
Maybe
No Super Star Soldier? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Great list, though. :)
Probably because this is only about CD games.
Lmao at the popful mail intro.
I would add the soundtracks from Red Alert/Last Alert.
Found this from Whang! like two weeks ago lol
Where did you get Nick Wood from as the composer of Gate Of Thunder? I thought it was Satoshi Miyashita. It's a Japanese developed game, after all...
Nick Wood was the composer of Gate of Thunder
Satoshi Miyashita was the composer of Lords of Thunder
how they managed to fit this audio quallity? those are prerecorded music not using a midi chip like old consoles right? it just playing a wav/mp3 type of music?
This console got CD capabilities really early, so yep!
in my country we never got this sound quality; we got shity master system and nes instead. when i got my saturn i might have been the only person with that console in 100km around me.
GOOD GOOD GOOD!! BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT you forgot a game here, Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes, Same composer who did the ys series on this system.
I love This music, it's authentic, not as this era, all new videogame music seems star wars music or electro pop Lady Gaga songs.
Wow! Is it just me or does the track from Jim Power (39:09) have some legit similarities to Searing Struggle from Ys 3?
ua-cam.com/video/rBxrmB3Sdzw/v-deo.html
The original Dark Souls
No Legendary Axe? 🤔
Here CD only.
25:25
Ys IV - Promalock ua-cam.com/video/45XIsCJ4k50/v-deo.html
Jim Power music is a copycat of Ys 3 Wanderes from YS!
JDG
Very horny soundtrack, I think the Valis series really nice. More than enough to hollow out all 4 parts. But since I only have a NEN Megadrive and a SNES I will get the 4 parts on the systems 1 to 3 on the Megadrive and the 4 for SNES.
S
I've heard better on the Turbochip
The first two were pretty awful but things picked up nicely after that. Shadow of the Beast & Valis 2 were some pretty awful games. Valis 3 was infinitely better than 2. Lol also not sure why but Valis always reminded me of La Blue Girl.
It’s about the music here, not about the quality of the games.
SotB has some of the best redbook audio ever made.
Shadow of the Beast sounds too poppy. The Amiga original sound better. Maybe it's just nostalgia though.
