i think her character is perfect & a representation for straight girls who may like to flirt or like attention or like to play w the idea of being gay, but aren’t actually gay. i also thought it was way more realistic that not every character was gay or interested in women. i think a lot of LGBTQ+ ppl have experience with liking someone who isn’t LGBTQ (myself included)
I loved when how during press for this movie Kaia Gerber kept saying she thought Brittany was gay - like she was actually mad she was playing the only straight character

She is comfortable playing into it and that’s all I want from public figures- her private life is her private life but if nothing else she’s an outspoken ally. The movie theater on my campus does free movies and a couple months after bottoms came out they showed it. The gsa went to see it for their meeting so the first time I saw it it was also in a room full of gay college students lol.
i was also thrown off by britney not being gay but i think it makes sense for her character. she’s like isabel’s sidekick, she even said something about how she doesn’t think for herself just agrees with isabel. and how no one listens to her like about her jewelry business. PJ was giving her attention and couldn’t outwardly state her attraction to her so to britney it just seemed like someone actually cared about her as a person. that’s why she seemed so receptive to the flirting.
I think she also might’ve been slightly curious but being kissed confirmed that she was straight for her because at the end she mentions watching gay porn

Yeah, I agree with you we always get stories where some (assumed) straight or bi woman plays hot and cold with another woman because they’re too afraid to “be themselves”, and even when they do finally date another woman, it’s for a few minutes and they’re back to men because they get their heart broken or one of them is killed somehow 😂😤 There are rarely any actual lesbian identifying characters.
