EVO magazine started in 1998. In 2010, EVO named the 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 their car of the year.
EVO magazine had a special edition in October, 2014 for their 200th issue. They picked 20 cars over their 16 years of publication to represent the best of what EVO stands for, including CGT, GT2, LFA… Numerous journalist spent days, driving many miles in these cars…. In the end they picked the 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 as THE car, the best among the best of the prior 16 years.
Chris Harris is a motorsports journalist and an incredible driver. In a recent video named “The future of the Porsche 911”, the hosts asks Chris if he could only pick ONE 911 to have/drive, only one, what would it be? His response, the 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8.
This machine is legendary and will go down as one of the greatest analog driving experiences ever.
So fortunate to own one and a 997.2 GT3.

A lot of hype behind the 997.2 GT3, and it’s completely justified. If you enjoy driving, and want to feel connected to the machine there is no substitute for a 997 GT3. It’s phenomenal.

I prefer the looks of the 997.1, especially the non-RS version with that weird wing... 😍 The 997.2 had better sounding engines in the whole lineup (very noticeable in the Turbo).

Design was crisp, feeling was still there, many different layouts, proper personality between each brand...
God damn, I had a day in one of these, slinging it around the back roads, hearing the engine hit redline before stomping on the heavy clutch and finessing the gear one ratio higher is a memory I will NEVER forget. Need to get one of these onto my channel ASAP. Great video!

I've played NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 a lot and the 997 is always the one that pops in my mind whenever I think about a GT3 RS.

The 991 GT3 RS had a 4.0 liter not a 3,6. The regular GT3 of the 991.1 had a 3,8. The last 3,6 was the 997.1 GT3/RS

Had a C2S 997.2 a couple of years ago and my god do you need to be on top when that tail kicks out, had some scary moments for sure. It was some getting used to when i had only driven modern cars with systems that saves you a** all the time. Fun time tho!

I did a track day in a 997 GT3, stunning cars.. Made my 996 feel a bit boring in comparison.
My late brother owned the exact same car which I sold last year for $225k = $100k more than what he paid for it 11 years ago! Needless to say, the car is epic and then some! Memories I'll treasure forever!

One of my dream cars but that 70+ in 2nd is disappointing, would much rather it was 70+ in 3rd, not being able to redline this through a few gears on the road must be frustrating.
I sometimes feel that way about my bike, it's also kinda fun knowing that first gear can break the law.

Just looked up a the GT3 RS 4.0 there’s only two for sale in the states on Autotrader…One doesn’t have a price the other they want $900k! my bad it’s actually $899,999k lol
In the UK, there are also 2 997 RS 4.0 - one (over 16000 miles) under £300k and other (over 9000 miles) under £350k for sale on auto trader.
The two cars in the US, one priced at $899k has only 938 miles and other one with no price has only 195 miles, guessing the price for this one will be around $1M.

Peak Porsche. The RS is almost a pure track car (RIP Sabine), whereas the GT3 is more suitable for road and track. Both are super raw. A world away from the approachable, VW owned 991s and supersized GT 992s. The 997.2 GT cars were the last of the true, great Porsches. As we transition to electric, there's an argument for these being the best ICE sports cars ever. A bargain considering the price of modern kit.

Fucked the launch up! And cocked the gear change up into 2nd. Could’ve knocked half a second off the 0-60 if you could drive a manual properly Matthew.
He can drive a manual properly, but "launching" and "driving" are two different things or rather launching is a specific subset of driving. Also, launching a manual hard requires being quite unsympathetic to the drivetrain, so its really hard to get a good launch if you are worried about hurting someone else's car (or having to pay for your own clutch job for that matter).
@@alangil40 I used to have one of these - and that GT3 isn’t even his car!! It’s a press car so therefore he shouldn’t be being sympathetic to the drivetrain! That GT3 is a lot faster than that. These chaps drive the auto box cars predominantly as they’re faster but therefore they aren’t practised when it comes to driving a manual vehicle and IMO it often shows. Unless of course you’re someone like Chris Harris who is a skilled driver and ace at rev matching or a standing start off the line etc etc.
