    I’m a business owner. If people stopped doing business with me, it would affect me a lot. And yet, no one has a moral obligation to support my business. It is my job as a business owner to create products and services other people want. Business is inherently risky, and business owners sign up for this risk.

    • @ADHDqueenB
      @ADHDqueenB 6 місяців тому +61

      I bet if people came to you with a legitimate complaint, you would hear them out and try to fix the problem.
      That is what a good business person or designer/creator does. Listens to criticism and makes it right or improves upon the product.
      I hope your business sees much success.
      With the rise of social media, people get all upset if anyone criticizes their product or service and lashes out. If Henry Ford or Steve Jobs gave up after hearing criticism, life would be much different. (Yes they were both terrible people but creative inventors who didn't quit).
      Yes there are a few bad players, but mostly it's just business and isn't personal.
      I'd rather get complaints over no responses. At least with complaints, you know they tried it and want to help make it better.

    Reminds me of what’s going on with fans of the Star Wars hotel on Jenny Nickleson’s video going after her for being too harsh on it… the hotel is already closed!!! If her critiques are so invalid and incorrect why is it closed? It’s almost like it was an overall bad experience not worth what you had to pay, just like she experienced lol. I appreciate mediocre and bad reviews of things so we can get a full honest look of the experience. I don’t trust influencers who only have 100% positive things to say because I know they’re getting paid to say it

    • @jenniferkushner3666
      @jenniferkushner3666 6 місяців тому +86

      I finally watched it in all of its entirety, and think Jenny has valid criticisms about everything. She got seated behind a pole and the app used to choose your story didn’t work for her among other things, and to think she paid $6000 for those glitches and other fuckery when it was supposed to be a luxury one of kind experience. And then there’s Jenny needing to blast Disney on her twitter in order to get a refund for the memory maker when other people in the same boat couldn’t get Disney to respond or give them a refund. The star wars hotel deserved to fail. Too niche and too expensive for most people. It does makes me happy inside whenever something Disney does turns out to be an epic failure.

    I totally agree that negative reviews are not always a bad thing. As a homebody who prefers to buy stuff online I rely heavily on reviews I see online before buy a product, especially ones that cost quite a lot of money. Seeing ONLY positive reviews is actually more of a red flag to me as a consumer than having a good balance of positive and negative reviews. If anything, knowing the negative aspects of the product helps adjust my expectations of it to a more realistic one so I rarely get disappointed when I get it in the mail

    • @autisticscreechling4950
      @autisticscreechling4950 6 місяців тому +50

      Same here! I'm always skeptical of product reviews that are 100% positive, especially the ones that don't even leave a review, just a 5/5 or 10/10 star rating with nothing written or words like "great product" or "works great". Glowing reviews can be manufactured and bought, so a product with a well balanced amount of positive and negative reviews is always welcome when online shopping for me.

    • @LadyKnightMare
      @LadyKnightMare 6 місяців тому +23

      Seriously! It was one of the first things my parents taught me to look out for to be more aware online. I really don’t understand how people don’t think that’s a red flag. And honestly I find people who feel like an honest bad review is mean and should just not be shared is a red flag for them. And negative reviews can be really helpful! If a review is saying clothes run small so I’d get a larger size, or how you can’t use a kitchen utensil on a nonstick surface which is all I have that’s super helpful!

    • @CaulkMongler
      @CaulkMongler 6 місяців тому +8

    • @papermario3982
      @papermario3982 6 місяців тому +15

      I ALSO heavily shop online rather than go outside LOL and the best tip I ever learned wrt: reviews was to look at the 3 star reviews. They will usually be the nuanced ones with pros and cons to consider, rather than just the two extremes of consumer experience in the 5 star and 1 star reviews (and to a certain extent, 4 and 2). I may disagree with a 3 star reviewer's conclusions or see different things as positives/negatives than they do, but it gives me the most information to decide for myself. Plus they're extremely unlikely to be fake because who would bother to fake reviews that aren't either 5 or 1 stars?

    That whole "nascent project" thing was so aggravating, because it really implies that we have some duty to help other people make money, which I don't think we really do. I also think you absolutely *can* criticise something before it's been released, based on how it's being promoted, what's being promised, etc. If I work to the assumption that the Humane Pin does everything they said it would... it's still kind of a lame product idea. I don't have to wait to actually have one in my hand to say that. I can assume that its creators are putting their best foot forward and give them the benefit of a doubt... and still think their product sounds bad.

      As someone working for a very large tech company, this is fucking SPOT ON.
      I've noticed a significant change in my company after the latest "merger" (it felt like a takeover, now it feels like sabotage).
      We are pushing out literal garbage internally & externally. With INSANELY unrealistic deadlines.
      This is what tech companies do now across the board. Theyre too focused on out-competing eachother to give a shit about quality. Incompetence & greed have taken over the industry. I keep telling myself that surely this isn't sustainable long term but theres no sign of slowing down... Everyone is pushing out junk that either doesn't work well and/or doesn't last very long. And yet people still buy it.
      Yes, I am asking myself if this companies beliefs & culture no longer align with my own. Ive been there for 7 years and put so much of myself into this career. But the job market is atrocious - its littered with scams, ghost jobs & data mining. Feels like the job market itself is just a predatory "business", and everyone is getting screwed. I feel stuck 😔 anyway, sorry for the rant.... surely I'm not the only one?

    We want good and bad reviews so we can make informed choices as consumers. I love looking at the most recent reviews of a product to see if it still holds true to the top rated promoted reviews.
    This also feels like the smut vs no smut argument in the book community.
    Usually if someone ask, it is because they are curious and they can have informed consent and choice before jumping in. Yes there are the people on both extremes, and there is an appropriate time, place, and audience for smut. But it depends on the level of maturity of a reader and their comfort level with reading that stuff.

    I remember when Linus Tech Tips got in trouble for poorly testing/reviewing a GPU cooling block prototype from Billet Labs, the prototype had specific instructions on what hardware to use with it and LTT ignored that. LTT dragged Billet Labs in their review, which harmed the small company reputation. The prototype was supposed to be returned to Billet Labs. Instead, it was auctioned off for charity. So yeah, creators can potentially destroy small companies.

    • @identity__thief
      @identity__thief 6 місяців тому +10

      The worst part of that was taking several thousand dollars of prototype from a company with no income and then selling it to a competitor, which is a totally nonstandard situation for a review. The negative coverage was also harmful, but at least in this situation GN had Billet Lab's back and corrected the narrative. Obviously not everyone has a trusted media powerhouse like GN to defend them, but most people don't have their only prototype sold to their competition by a reviewer either.
      It's also fair to say LTT's review wasn't in good faith. If a good faith review destroys your company, that was probably your fault for making a bad product.

    The problem with products being sold on future use cases is so prevalent in so many industries. There's a product called the Quad Cortex by Neural, it's a $1400 guitar modeller which is designed to replace your guitar's backline & effects with compact & portable floor unit. Neural also make guitar amp plugins for use on PC/Mac, charging about $100+ for each one. Now, the Quad Cortex was sold at launch with the promise that the plugins you purchase would be compatible with the Quad Cortex - in the future. That was 2021. it's 2024. No plugins are yet compatible with the Quad Cortex. To their credit, the next update brings compatibility - for two plugins, or about 10% of their range.
