On this level it's nearly impossible to judge objectively who was better. It's the general impression what matters. I guess Luca won due to more spectacular and good-looking techniques in his kata (e.g. the series of yoko-geris executed from a one-leg stance).
Yes, both performance's are beautiful and powerful, much better performances than I've ever made, and I've trained this way for most of my days. But remember, this is Shorin-ji (Shaolin). This is not a pure bunkai demonstration. It is beautiful, it is powerful, it is effective, but it is not ultimate.. not even close. You could study from these performances your entire life and benefit, be a better person, but as good as these are they are, they lack the living spirit. Honors to Luca and Takashi
I'm Italian, we are in complete agreement with you. This victory was going to Katada, his kata is much more energetic, and more accurate than Valdesi .. Japanese style is unsurpassed ....
hi guys!!!im black belt and 1 dan and i practise the shitokai (as katada does)!!i dont even know the kata gankaku but i love and know the kata anan!!!this japanese man did it very very well and i think he should be the winner!Valdesi is great athlete but he hasnt the technique of katada!!Great fight...
you can see that luka's kata is strong and has good speed but there are many many tech breaks in the kata. He gives up perfecting the movements of this gracefull and dynamic form for preformance. It is a comentary on the direction of modern karate. We are losing the true art of karate for theater.
Luca has good speed despite kime, Takashi also, but I think the kata Takashi was a little vague in certain movements and lack of kime in some loops. Luca was more defined on the go. In conclusion both are good.
It's Annan for me too. I've been an active karateka for quite some time. Been in WKF (WUKO back then) & Shotokan World Championships as a kata competitor. I think I know good kata when I see it and the Annan was quality. I also know a bogus looking Gankaku. Sadly the Europeans have been steadily whiteanting away at the Japanese with their own version of kata with exaggerations of all kinds and alterations designed to impress judges. I'm no Japophile but this European kata is just pure crap.
In that case you should know that it is called a dogi or karategi, Japanese does not have the word gi by itself. My wife is Japanese and she's rather good at the language.
Congratulations for Luca but it was an empty victory, Katatda's Annan was a lot more polished and clean than that Gankaku, I personally am not a shito-ryu or shotokan practitioner but I know a good annan and Gankaku when I see one and that Annan was amazing and should of won
I'd like to know HOW THE HELL did Valdesi win???!!! Takashi has WWWAAAAAAYYYYY BETTER form, control, fluidity, technique, speed and POWER/WAZA compared to this Valdesi guy. Valdesi's kata was SLOPPY. NO control, NO technique, SLOPPY speed, and NO POWER/WAZA WHAT-SO-EVER.....TAKASHI should've won HANDS DOWN. I'd rather learn kata from Takashi than Valdesi ANY GIVEN DAY.
SergioRo52, thank you so much for uploading this! I've been searching all over UA-cam for the full match of Valdesi and Katada!
I just loved Takashi's kime on the end of every single technique.
Good call by the judges. Katada’s kata was clean and sharp, but Valdesi was much stronger and more technically difficult
Serio, esse cara é o melhor. Me impiro nele!

algumas pessoas confundem barulho do kimono com kime.
A kimono is what a japanese woman would wear. GOOGLE IT
In my country (Belgium) most of the people say "Kimono", i am sorry if i offended you
now i realise that gangaku is much alike chinto (wado ryu).
lol? I'm understanding good? I don't know if you had listened the end of the video, but they say Valdesi won the competition.
WTF the luca did his kata first and he wass blue belt!!
It really went the other way around, but the maker of this video switched the order@pampermanneke

Freaking. Flawless. Who cares who won, we all know who the master is. Luca did ok though.
wow your kata was awesome
Im i the only one who noticed that AO did his kata first?
who are you to tell something like that ? Luca is 5th dan sensei and world champion...
In that case you should know that it is called a dogi or karategi, Japanese does not have the word gi by itself. My wife is Japanese and she's rather good at the language.
the difference is too big physically. the win of ao is logical

*Katada
In Poland we say Kimono too.
Takashi Katada. Always a world champon!!!
for me... luke is an excellent excellent athlete but TAKADA deserved won
1:51 a small mistake of loosing balance :)), however he is so good at kata!
does luca valdesi ever do kumite?
takashi start slow and with no kime enough, luca won clean
o melhor e millon!!

What Brand Of Kimono?????????????????
After 9 years of searching intensively every day, I have finally found the brand of the Gi.
OSS!!!!
Ok, you could have said that before ;)
known more for being a womens sort of robed dress.
won the kata but it was no good, does not he already done much better deserved to have lost
