Books that can help Scientologists with leaving Scientology - Life After Scientology #2

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Throughout this episode, we explore the resources that have helped us recover and understand the dynamics of cults, from eye-opening books and engaging podcasts to hard-hitting documentaries. We draw striking parallels with other groups like NXIVM, reflecting on Sarah Edmondson's book "Scarred," and share personal stories of how our private emails were manipulated during legal battles. By the end of this episode, you'll grasp the critical importance of separating fact from fiction.
From the moment we left Scientology, we faced a whirlwind of challenges. We share shocking anecdotes about the ingrained mistrust of psychologists, the disillusionment with the Church's empty operations, and the global consistency of futile practices like producing and discarding unused materials. These shared internal conflicts reveal a universal struggle among former members to uncover the truth about L. Ron Hubbard and the Church.
We discuss Russell Miller's "Barefaced Messiah," exposing many fabrications of Hubbard's life, and examine the extreme measures the Church takes to suppress critical literature and voices. Highlighting changes in compensation for former Sea Org members and the infiltration of educational institutions, this episode underscores the personal risks authors take to expose the truth. Join us as we navigate the difficult yet liberating journey of uncovering the true face of Scientology.

So I was watching your videos and my son (16 yo) asked me about it so I was trying to describe what Scientology is. I said something about thetans, attempting my best to describe it without sounding insane. He said, “oh they’re like spiritual micro plastics.” Seems like a good description to me, but I’ve never been a Scientologist.
loved your book - reminded me of what it was like working for the government, only scientology probably makes more sense if you can believe it.
wow, I am still so happy you escaped and got here!
Me too. Love you both
Heyyy…. I’m late to listening, but found yall couple weeks ago, and been listening to bunch.
Great episodes and all the people.
Thank you for sharing.
There goes for your effort , love you guys. Give them hell!
Great video 😊
Sarah Edmonton's book is fantastic! So well written.
Great content! Educational. Just what the people need. Glad you are back on.
Marc, your book is my favorite. I have it on Kindle and read it twice, i have a signed copy and listened on audible! Can't wait for Claire's book! ❤
I have a signed copy of Marc’s book that I won on a live show and I LOVE IT!!! I also can’t wait for Clair’s book! 💜
@@Jennyhicks33 that's awesome!
Thanks guys! Nice to see you back ❤
My 20th will be Jun 2027 and I’ll be there 😅
Love you guys. Thanks for being awesome.
another great look into the cult that should be shut down
Nooooo! I missed the live. But I am thankful for the replay crew.
Wowww 👏🏼 this show was a GOOD one! Very compelling stuff. I know it’s been covered many times and talked about but just bringing up the books again really does create an interesting and sad conversation that isn’t always touched on. I’m going to look up a couple of those books
Like your content direction, very refreshing
I was listening to the Blown For Good pod cast today (drinking game edition). I took a drink every time Marc said “nonsense”. I got wasted.
Than you 🙏 for book the reviews…
It's so interesting to me as someone who has never been involved with Scientology to hear how they make you ALWAYS look at yourself, internally, if something is going wrong. In the outside world it feels like, too often, people are doing the exact opposite and always looking to blame someone else. I find myself frequently saying how a little bit of self-awareness and introspection goes a long way but, as with anything, you can take that too far and really have it used against you. Scientology seems to really demonstrate this. Having the ability and the humility to self evaluate is important but it very easily becomes harmful if you're the only one doing it in a situation. If Scientology preaches self-reflection so much, how is it they are so incapable of putting that into practice themselves as an organisation? Taking a look at what you might be doing wrong, what you could do better, does not really jive when you are disconnecting others. Hubbard himself seemed TOTALLY unable to be self-critical and yet expects it from everyone else ... I guess that is 1 more contradiction to add to the list
seems like untempered ego can hijack any human, even if/when someone starts out believing in a good cause, the egos image/ideas of itself, its created persona, can take over, like "the Midas Touch"
can see it with celebrity actors, athletes, political personas, in any institution, especially where power, fame, public attention/ adoration is at stake..
WELL SAID!!!! I’m a never in and I too have recognized Scientology policies that have some value IN MODERATION in the outside world. Seems every policy has to be taken to the highest extreme with no thought of “How’s that working for you?!?” I sometimes wonder what CIS would look like if they had the ability to analyze outcomes 🤔
No one made them. They chose this. They are weak and pathetic for falling for the cult mentality. The only people I feel bad for are the kids born into the CULT.
Thanks Claire and Marc for doing this video as I believe it's a holiday this weekend for Labour Day on Monday. Hopefully, you and your family will get time to enjoy it. Best wishes from Scotland.
Thanks for watching! We pre-recorded this and enjoyed some epic fishing with the kids! :)
I just finished listening to Scarred too. ❤
Such a great book!
@@goingclairescientology it is! As much as I've seen the vow and listened to Sarah tell her story in many places, there were still some new moments there.
So glad your back on job. I'll watch everything you do
17:10 But I'm afraid that some won't be ex-Scientologists until they drop the body. For example, Don Brown whom I met outside the KC Org proudly declared that he'd been in Scientology for 60 years and insisted that there are 7 million members, and when I pointed out that each org would need to have an average of over 41000 members he fell back on "all the missions".
When i was 7 or 8 the book Dianetics was on the shelf at the drug store. My grandpa pointed to it and said "your moms uncle and i served in the Navy with that guy". Gramps rarely used foul language around me when i was a kid, but he said "that guy Hubbard is full of shit". According to my grandpa, LRH was a liar and not a good Mariner.
Another great episode. 😊
Yay! I’ve been looking forward to this series. Can’t wait for the next one.
Henning Heldt was a visible presence in LA in the 1970’s. He and Mary Heldt were always pleasant and cheerful when seen. What happened? They were following Command Intention.
Great episode
Thanks for doing this.Looking forward to part 2 with Jon Atack ,can't wait.
Thanks for a terrific video1!!! Keep up the fantastic work!
I loved this! What a great idea.
Happy Saturday !!
There are similarities between Scientology’s tactic of saying “it’s just you” was used on sub postmasters in the Post Office Scandal that is still going through a huge Public Enquiry.
If you are able to access any ITV Tv drama programs, see Mr Bates vs The Post Office, you’ll be shocked and see the similarities 🙄 So it’s still happening
I just put it in my watch list on Prime Video. Looks very interesting!
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add that to my list.
Early congrats on your upcoming escape anniversary! Do you have any plans to celebrate?
Thanks for providing resources that you, personally, found helpful. I hope you're enjoying your fishing!
For me, reading Janis' books and, then, Mike's book provided a great foundation of the evolution from the Missions to the 'church' we sadly have today. Running from countries, banned from countries to the creation of the 'Sea Org'. So many 'hideouts' for LRH. Their time in was around the same time and reading their individual perspectives were so interesting. If current Sea Org members could know this history, it would be mind blowing! And, of course, Marc's book highlighted the insanity of control over its members, too, is mind blowing. Next up is Amy's book while I wait for Claire's book.
🥰
👍🌷
It's amazing what the 2 of you have accomplished in 20 years. Cos is still doing what??
Great and informative video! Does Hubbard have any living relatives? It seems like he believed the tall tales he told.
I wonder if Trumps autobiography will be similar.
Sorry so my question is what do you and Clare believe Miscavich knows ?
Well the Bible contradicts itself so many times too!
No it doesn't. You have to understand who is speaking to whom about what. One day you tell someone to "go outside " the next day you say "don't go outside". There is relevance and circumstance and who is talking to who. The Bible is pretty amazing for sticking to the same narrative throughout. It's a bunch of stories that have applications to life. No 2 stories are exactly the same same
Yeppers 👍 I'm deconverting at 62 😮😅
