Lightwhips Have Been in Star Wars Since 1985

Seeing a lot of confusion over whether or not lightwhips are new or not as seen in the upcoming show The Acolyte so here you go - lightwhips have actually been in Star Wars since 1985, first seen wielded by the Dark Lady Lumiya in Star Wars Issue 95.
The Acolyte features the High Republic character Vernestra Rwoh also wielding a purple lightwhip/lightsaber variant.
