- Today we take a look at the first hero revealed for the upcoming Twist season of Hearthstone, Whizbang’s Heroes, in Archvillain Rafaam and why I have a lot of concerns about the upcoming season of Twist, and the future of the game mode.

this twist season is just content that was in dev/mostly devoloped for duels before it was axed and they just re used it
My exact thoughts about this, BS they could’ve used on duels but pulled the plug on. Can’t expect return on investment when you don’t invest into something anymore.
But free, duels is pay to play
What’s wrong with that?
@@michaelj8647pay to play for the rewards, it still had a free mode
@michaelj8647 no it wasn't you could play at no cost, unless you want to build a specific deck at which point yeah you needed cards
I like the idea and 1600 dust for a full deck doesn't seem expensive plus there are free options, but it feels like duels at home. They probably reused content from a canceled duels expansion
The issue is that twisted is a ladder type of mode (i.e. you can hit legend in it) ... Therefore it wont take long for people to figure out which are the strongest deck and it will all revolve around 2-3 strongest decks playing against each other to climb.. it will get stale pretty fast imo
Finally rewarded for being a hoarder and never disenchanting those "useless" cards.
You shouldn't be rewarded for disenchanting useless cards. Also not everyone played since then, it's not interesting for new players, and that shouldnt be.If you want to hoard them that's nice, but those heroes should be available for all
@@slimede1452 I would have done things slightly differently. I would give each class 3 hero variations, where 1st is free for for all, and other two are premium.
I read this as Finley rewarded
@@ChaosSlayerZXOr make it something we can earn. Like we get the old legendary for winning 20 games with the class, and then unlock the other hero. I'd waste more time in this game for free legendaries, lol
If you call being able to play boring prebuilt decks rewarded, then yes, but I certainly don't feel rewarded and I own every single one of the cards. Blizzard don't make the good decks, players do, so I have little hope that this is going to be particularly enjoyable.
I wanna play Duels!
We have duels at home: Twist
Since formating isn't your forte, i'll do it for you.
Me: I wanna play duels
Mom: we have duels at home
Duels at home:
@@BrandonPoirierBlair Thank you, I was half asleep when I said that lol
this feels like the old adventures, stitched together in some sort of Duel, like the old tavern-brawls with Rag vs. Blackwing
They remove duels, then added a limited time event that could of acted as a update to duels. Why?
To paywall it
Exactly, ar first Twist was like an expensive Tavern Brawl, now it's paid Duels...
It even has the shortcomings of the original Duels launch, needing a ton of stuff to unlock your treasures.
@@Zakading bro, duels at lunch you had to have way more stuff to unlock heros, and you had to play the format long time to unlock rest of the hero powers and treasures
For long time aswell it was bugged and you couldnt unlock anything, it was just glitzhed on that number you were on and coiuldnt progress
Duels was way way worse then this twist format
@@gardmyhr6121 Yes, that's exactly what I said
A fun way to do twist that doesn't require too much crazy work is having 3 random sets legal that never were together and seeing the best decks from them. You could have like Sunken City, Goblins vs Gnomes, and Descent of Dragons or something and see how it shakes out. That would be a fun mode.
Called Mix n Match!
This is what I was hoping to see them do at some point after seeing them come up with that interesting "class cards only" format for that first month
I do like that Twist is basically an even playing field as everyone has access (assuming they have the hero) to the exact same deck as everyone else. So getting to legend would mean more skill is required as you cannot just progress with a tier 1 netdeck.
I'm excited. It somewhat reminds me of duels.
I'm glad I get to run one of my favorite characters, Rafaam!
So idea for this mode was to play old classic metas and now we have something between duels and wild ?
Idea for this mode always was playing Hearthstone "with a twist", not just old formats
as i remember yeah, and even that was fucking shit cuz the first time they did it, it was the worst possible expansions
These heroes are 100% unreleased heroes from duels I'm calling it right now.
@@Zakading yeah, there was a season where you could only use commons. That's never been a meta.
No, the idea is having a mode that changes how its played every expansion
just makes me miss Duels
This does feel like the leftover ideas/content that were going to be in duels. Maybe at one point this was going to be a tavern brawl but the amount of effort required was to great for a single week thing so they dumbed it into twist.
Honestly I am just baffled at all of this. All they basically had to do for twist was either redo a previous standard year, or put all the expansions on a dart board, throw 3 to 6 darts and see which expansions they hit and then bam! There is your twist season.
Just wow. What a move to remove Duels only to recreate them. And also screw Twist with this move at the same time. Just wow
I think the general idea of the new twist is to make a hybrid between battlegrounds(since it had so much success) and other modes, to have another self sustained mode, but i think "classic, mercenaries, old twist and duels" players would have a lot to say about that.
I wish they could just turn twist into a player driven mode. It would be so nice if the game could have some kind of custom game maker. just throw in all the assets and tools they've developed over the years and let the players make custom game formats. Kind of like Rarran's custom rules just a tool in game to ban or unban the cards for the format you want to create. Allow the adventure, duels, and other cards in the game that aren't collectable to be used. I imagine some kind of filters where you can enable and disable certain sets and what not and individually ban certain cards as well, maybe even force certain cards into some decks. something as simple as that players can show their creativity and you could do a community vote every month of a popular player format and that could be the twist format for the month. I don't know all the logistics but it seems like a good way of doing it. If it wouldn't work out for a format tool i'm sure players would still find ways to make a tool like that go to good use.
I also think a tool like this could be advanced upon later on adding hero's from duels and other modes maybe some brawl content, really the possibilities could be endless. I think of other games I've played outside of card games with creation tools of sorts. Minecraft and Halo in particular I have always had the most fun playing custom games on those with friends. Even magic is always fun to do deckbuilding restrictions or create our own rules like every turn cycle we would roll a die and whatever number it would land on we would add an effect to the game with my play group.
The only reason Hearthstone doesn't have a custom game mode is because of previous management
I remember when duels was introduced. They locked hero powers behind your collection, and guess what, basically noone played the mode. It's only when they removed the arbitrary restrictions that the mode really started to get people invested.
This is duels without the deck building, without the roguelike aspect, and with even more restrictions. And we get to play it for 1 month. I'm not optimistic that many people will do anything other than try the free heroes and then leave
I like pre--build decks - as I don't have to think before I start playing. But it would be cool if they had heroes with 25/30 cards (for balance purposes) and you could add 5 of your own cards into it!
I still think twist is the most wasted potential in hearthstone. The best way to do twist to make old cards matter and to make it fun new metas would have been making the deck building different. They should have made it where the sets were mixed. Example one twist month you can only use Festival of Legends, Murder at Castle Nathria, Fractured in Alterac Valley, Ashes of Outland, Saviors of Uldum, and Rastakhan's Rumble. The next month use a different set from each year this would keep things interesting and fresh and make the old cards more valuable. Just always pick 6 sets that weren't ever played together.
I don’t see why it’s a problem. You pay 1600 dust for a whole deck. Which decks can be cheaper than that?
Cause you only get to use that deck for one month. Then your 1600 dust are gone forever
Tbh, I wasn't the biggest fan of twist format due to the huge dust cost, however now i might even give it a try, 1600 dust for a whole deck is a lot cheaper than having to craft each card for a single deck to try. My only concern is that it'll get stale, not only the deck but the format after a while since there are only a few decks and i assume it won't be all equally balanced.
On the other hand, i would like much more a "standard" mode with "heroes" where i can try my own decks with passives and what not, even the name would be fitting, a "twist" on the standard format, and with every expansion they could just rotate a couple heroes. Or, you know, just do duels again with the proper "keyword pools" instead of expansions and let people play basically the same thing but with more powers
Congratulations to the winners! As always, thank you for what you do!
Thank you for the Mini set! What class do you think will be on top for standard with the information we have now?
Twist could have been great from the get-go if Wild catch up packs were released with it last year. I have been playing from hearthstone release until around Un'goro when I dropped the game and came back late into MotLK. My collection has a huge void in it, even getting commons from old sets is a huge hit to dust for keeping the standard collection up. Maybe they got some figures crunched up that its more profitable to keep the old sets gated so hard, but it damn sure seems like it would print money.
Yeah it's been a huge mismatch honestly. The first Twist was a bad selection. They really wanted the recent sets to get newer players to play but they really should've just went with the old school sets like Naxx, GvG, TGT, etc from the start. Yeah, it would have been annoying to craft but most of those cards were commons and rares. It would have been the perfect intro to the mode.
thanks for the update Zeddy!
Im excited for it i dont mind crafting a legendary for an entire decks worth experience
I'm a vet been here from the start got all the cards needed for twist
I'm actually quite excited for this! it'll be a lot of free decks to try out and I have faith they'll be fun to play! (I'm a huge whizbang fan btw!)
Rafaam going "BEHOLD MY STUFF!!" is the most Rafaam thing he could do
Took my beautiful precious duels mode for this
It’s a bit disappointing that this could of just been a duels update that if they made would of revitalised the mode
One of my favorite tavern brawls were hero vs hero decks
I see this as a reward for keeping those not very good Legendaries.
But it still feels so bad to craft a trash card like Nozdormu just to unlock the hero version, and in that case there is already Nozdormu the Eternal in Standard, so why couldn't they count that one instead?
I really would like a Twist format if was like this:
I would chose a Hero from a 3 option pool, after that I Will build a 30 cards deck like in the arena. This for every game, so It would be like I chose a Hero and build a deck, After winning/losing once i'll chose another Hero and build another deck. At least It would be kinda an Arena/ladder format that could be funny and diverse. Maybe adding Anomalies One month and only One rarity card deck the next month
I'm excited for this, but that's only because I have a pretty extensive wild collection because I've been playing since TGT
it feels like they turning Twist into new Duels. Sort of. i wish them luck
We removed duels, just to give you some "duels/dungeon run" content back in twist... And we give you preconstructed decks, which you can select so in almost no time the best deck will be identified and "spammed" all the time.
I want Twist to be limited so that when you create a deck, you must first select the release year of the cards. Let's say I choose Year of the Dragon, then the deck is limited to, The Witchwood, The Doomsday Project, Rastakhan's Rumble, Rise of Shadows, Saviors of Uldum, Descent and Dragons, and Kael'tha's Sunsteider form (Ashes of ouland) (Basic and Classic set) What do u think about the idea Zeddy?
Did Zeddy announce the winner of who guessed (closer to) the legendaries in the Mini-set? :P
Sadly, I dusted a lot of these cards a while back because I thought they'd never be useful. I wish they would still give me the hero If i owned them previously.
i am excited for this! pre-built decks and a ranked tavern brawl looks cool!
I like that the barrier to entry is lowered, only 1600 is nice, but it still feels bad as a f2p to know that if I want to play one of those decks I’ll just end up with a useless card after a month
I like the idea for duels, but do wish we could build decks for the heroes
They should have done sandbox mode with custom, community made rules and tournaments, and just update it regularly. If done right, they could have just made it playable based on monthly subscription (like 5 euros - Okay, it is Blizzard so like 15 euros), and everyone would be happy. I would love to try different formats like "Letter E is banned - you cant play anything containg that letter" or wild tournament, where after you lose, one of the expansions gets banned, and cannot use it in deck building anymore. Custom buffing or nerfing some cards for the tournament, adding a few points of armor before the game starts, like in BGs, capping the number of cards you can draw in a single turn to 2 etc... This just feels like tawern brawl with extra steps. Okay rants over.
Actually a really cool idea. I always thought it would be great if there was just a subscription you could pay to have access to all the cards but I know they'd never do that for standard mode, so having a second mode like this would work well and still require people to have cards for the main game
I hope that you get GOLDEN VERSION of the deck if you have golden legendary.
I love how energetic you are in every video
this is somehow a mode that Shadowverse introduced literally like a month ago for a limited time, same structure, you hand precon decks, unique hero power that acted more like planeswalkers (Shadowverse doesnt have hero powers mind you)
but the difference here is that all of those were free, you didnt need to make anything, you can just play the mode
how tf did Blizzard took this idea, and made it worse
(btw, this mode was very cool bc the payoffs for the hero powers were really cool and flashy)
A discounted bundle!? From blizzard!? Zeddy you know it ain’t happening 🤣🤣🤣
Some heroes you get for free, some are unlocked with good cards in wild and some, like C'thun cost some gold. The rest is 1600 dust for a deck. Seems very cheap to me, I don't think there is much reason to complain in terms of accesibility as you don't need any cards to build a deck
For someone who is relatively new to Hearthstone the idea of getting refunds on nerfed cards is really interesting because i haven´t seen anything like it before. it is really cool because it helps f2p players keep up if their main deck got hit but at least for me knowing that overperforming cards will be refunded would highly discurarage me from experimenting with off meta builds. i mean if i made an off meta deck and end up not liking it, the odds of making my resources back are very slim, but if i were to copy an overperforming deck i could just wait for it to get balanced and just get the resources back. dont get me wrong, i think that giving these refunds is the only correct thing to do because you bought one thing and if it gets changed obviosly you should be compensated for it, but i just was wondering if this might be a reason for the low variety of decks i see on ladder. in other games you have to think about getting the top thing, because if it got nerfed you would loose resources so often times (at least for me) you would try getting like low tier A or high tier B things first because they were less likely to be changed, but with Hearthstone i feel like you are pulled towards getting the tier S stuff first because there are not too many resources at stake. then again its only really going to affect the low budget players so its probably a good thing that this can help keep up with whales but at least for me the whole thing is very interesting. i might be the only one tho.
Thx for the vid man, love it
would've been cool to have both deck types:
prebuilts and the option to build against the prebuilts
Kinda defeats the purpose, nobody would play prebuilts and it would make it ostentatiously p2w.
@BrandonPoirierBlair I would play the pre-built to try the powers and such. Plus maybe you own one of the legendary cards and not a competitive deck
I think it's not so bad as you describe about accessibility of format. Some decks are free and some needs not so big investment, some of players has some of those cards already. I think it's absolutely ok If some players won't have ALL 19 heroes. It's 11 classes in standard but I can't remember when I played all 11 classes in one season. Maybe even during the whole expansion period of time. But if you liked format it's ok to invest 1600 dust to play with certain deck even if it's only for 1 month.
There is all thing about the format itself. If it would be cool this system will be 100% OK. But if it will be not really cool and interesting play even giving everyone all 19 cards for free won't save the format
Will I spend 1600 dust to craft Arfus just to be able to play it?
If Solo Adventures have been totally axed this is the next best thing for me tbh
I can be wrong but I am pretty sure when they released twist they said it wont be available all the time, they said sometimes twist is available and sometimes not
we just need twist to be unrestricted dual class constructed
This xpansion looks awesome!
i like this BUT i want to play this to make a permenen5 mode out of it aka display intrest
Hearthstone is spreading the player base with so many modes
Did somebody say $60 bundle? Because I think Blizzard heard $60 bundle
Make them add like 4 NEW champion concepts and "The most played one gets added to the game"
It would be THAT EASY to make twist fun
What time does the miniset drop,
10 PST so about 4 hours
@@jaygames6926 thanks
thank you ☕
I agree that having deckbuilding is great, but this does kinda solve part of the the investment stuff. You only need one legendary for a deck, I not saying it’s great but at least they may be trying to address some problems
Give us dual class constructed Blizzard! Like come on!
Saw thumbnail and thought 'wow new duels content'
Wait.....
F@*k that isn't available now. As someone who doesn't play much standard or twist I'm sad
Yey, I've disenchanted most of these cards. Oh well it seems I won't be playing this month Twist again.
you know that thing that was talked about a little bit a while ago that some people had some cards disappear, well almost all of my league of explorers legendaries disappeared, they can't be crafted or opened in packs, the only way to get them is to beat the adventure, which you can only do once, so I cannot get these legandaries again, ever, I tried complaining about it, but you know how it is, no one is gonna see that
I'm pretty sure they can be crafted, I would know because that's what I did with Brann and Reno
@@mikcent4435 ah, maybe, but its so much dust 😭
@@orvvollyon still sorry for you, that's a huge loss in cards
@mikcent4435 at least it not all of them, I just math-ed it, it would take 9120 dust.
we are frogs!
it's literally a paid tavern brawl
Keep up the good work Zeddy
Wait a twist that isn't just dif sets
Well the format name is correct at least. Every announcement on the mode is a twist....
I'm scared of the level bar under Rafam
That's the level of the class, right? It's not a "level up your heroes to make them better" thing, right?
I will have to check out the c'thun deck
RAFAAAAAAM THE SUPREME ARCHAEOLOGIST
Twist is the new Duels
Something tells me that this iteration of Twist is going to be plagued with bots, considering that the crafting costs of one playable hero is 1600 dust and all decks are pre-built.
Brimg back duels. The only reason I played
Honestly its like a less pay to win with a little inspiration from battlegrounds heroes, you get a "free" deck if you have the legendary that is tied to the respective hero. Kinda cool for players who want to throw a buck but nothing too crazy.
Also would be cool to add some more free decks to get to choose from and rotate out. Or hell even better, make them all free and make a small paywall like battlegrounds pass and you get to choose like between 3 random decks, or if you have the battlepass, get to choose between 5 heroes, other battlepass rewards besides this being cosmetics, just like battlegrounds
thank you ☕
Duels died for this!!!! "BLIZZZAAAAARD"!!!!!
You know what sucks most? I was a Classic player, whenever the meta was shit, I played classic instead, this meta right now I would be playing a lot of classic.
We took out duels so we can make duels in twist genius!
If Duels had a bad implementation code-wise, then it's probably for the best.
Its not out yetttt
Can you dust a diamond brann?
no but IIRC when diamond cards get nerfed for the first time, you get a free 3200 dust.
My game hasn’t updated yet?
I miss Duels.
I love that they just experiment the hell out of it with Twist, make it something new and wacky every time, bring back formats once i a while that people liked.
This is fine to me. I'd love if it was all free deck. I also enjoy deck-building more than premade decks - hence why all new adventures suck! But try something for a months, sure no problem.
But WHY ON EARTH IS IT LOCKED MORE OFTEN THAN NOT!
Seriously, the Classic cards are still in the client. If you cannot come up with something for a specific month, no problem, bring back Classic hearthstone! Or bring back an old twist format. How is that so hard?
Wow now I had to have them to play them????? Man i used to have them but new seasons ;\
My guess is a couple decks will be hyper broken and some will be useless. After 1 day you will only see the 4 broken ones over and over and the mode will die because they won't balance change anything.
So instead of adding these heroes to Duels where you can use your collection to build a small deck and as you win games you can add more cards to your collection built deck they deleted Duels and throw it into Twist and you can’t even construct your own deck with the cards in your collection and you need to craft or already own a lot of these legendary cards which most are not worth the resources for a mode that had its “own expansion” that people put money into and then lock it down for months on end? This is outrageous. People wanted new heroes added to duels after the initial launch hype wore off and they did do that, but only two were even original excluding Lich King and the rest were just rehashed from solo adventures. Duels had so much potential, a lot of people enjoyed the dungeon runs of old in PVE, people love Bob from those PVE’s, one thing that always seemed like a missed opportunity was not incorporating him into Duels like the old PVE’s. Every single game mode they try they can’t nail the delivery, Battlegrounds popped off and remains so popular because it’s a “free” mode and it’s not even an original idea, auto battlers existed before it, they just added a few extra things, Hearthstone used to be one of my favorite pass times, I started playing with the launch of Naxxramas, I have played on and off for years, I try to not dust my cards aside from useless legendaries with the worst effects that they printed and man did they make a lot of those back in the day, I try to hang on to some of the more interesting and niche ones though, and the same goes for the epic cards, however I always tried to keep at least one copy of them. I enjoyed Duels a lot to be honest, but it got staler and staler because it was in “beta”. I like playing standard, but I don’t like dumping money into sets for preorders anymore, I’ve been burned to many times in the past doing so, yes a lot of cards have been power-crept over the years, but there’s also been some looks good on paper sets over the years that most of the cards saw zero play, not to mention they try and make like a little lot of cards for classes that are synergistic in each set and have been on the trend for awhile now, however they are effects that aren’t evergreen and they tend to print like 6-7 of these cards give or take and if you’re lucky and find one you enjoy then maybe just maybe they give it 2 or 3 more support pieces a month and a half later in the mini sets. Mini sets are neat, they shake up the meta because people want to try new things, but give it 2 weeks max and it’s back to the same exact meta just with 1-3 new cards from the mini sets added to the same copy paste meta deck it was before. I miss adventures so much, it was enjoyable playing through them, ran the same pricing as mini sets just about, but you got to experience lore, story, you had to experiment when it came to deck building to bet certain bosses, also each wing was released one week at a time which kept the meta feeling fresh and was constantly evolving until a few weeks after every wing had launched. Old Hearthstone had shitty cards by todays standards, it also had ones that were shitty then too, but I feel like there used to be a lot more tender and care put into the game as a whole. With all that said I’d like to end on this note, Wild needs more adjustments, power-creep is real and I thought there was a glimmer of hope with Taverns in Time because they did buff a handful of the older cards, are they playable in wild though, no. I feel like cards that have rotated to wild in the past and in the future need to be looked at individually and have their cost, stats, and in some rare cases even their effects adjusted, especially from like the first handful of expansions, wild will never have a significant shake up in its meta unless cards of old are brought down to be even at least the bare minimum of today’s cards power level. People complain about Wild constantly how it’s just a mode where your cards of old have gone to die in your collection until you dust them and there’s essentially never a chance for anything new to shine, it’s a digital card game, Taverns in Time was just a glimmer of hope, gave me that hope that cards of old could see life again, Duels did that too in its own way, I just wish there was more care put into the game like their what’d been in the past even with poorly designed cards, there was still more care put into it, adventures, dungeon runs, just more personality. I want to launch up the game and feel that sense of excitement and joy I once had and I doubt I am alone on that. Don’t even get me started on the amount of time and budget they sunk into Mercenaries for it to flop like it did, yet it’s still in the game simply because it has its own purchasable content. I wish they’d take a page out of Magic the Gathering’s book and add another format similar to MTG’s “modern” format and still retain the standard and wild format however as I said above I feel like the wild format needs an overhaul. I also think a format like MTG’s “commander” format would be interesting where deck building sizes are increased, starting health totals are higher, but you can only one a single copy of each card you put in your deck legendary or not with the added bonus that all the Highlander cards that have been printed old and knew were available in that format. I still play Hearthstone and I have on and off for years, but I just miss the feeling the game once gave me, I have had a lot of enjoyment over the years playing, I still do from time to time even now, but it just doesn’t feel the same like it used to.
To whoever reads this thanks, best wishes to you.
Lo and behold, only 1 or 2 of these decks will be worth playing.
i feel like they have no idea what they're doing with twist, it all seems kinda of pointless to me, as a f2p player, there is no way im investing in twist lol
Hmmm this time i don't really understand why you're complaining for the new duel season. It's just 1600 dust for a deck and a fun one, plus they will probably use this season content for rotation between others duels seasons.
Still you are right about tavern of time... It's suck they made really cool cards but meh not really worth the assle.
Hi ❤ mini set here
I'm so disappointed that we never got and probably never will get an explanation for Twist. At this point, I struggle to see why they even made the mode. They clearly have no clue what to do with it or in which direction they want it to go. For some reason, they cannot give us easy access to play with 10-year-old cards that nobody would ever want to craft. There's no gold discount for packs, no dust discount for super old cards that will never see any play outside of a particular Twist season. The mode is rarely available, and if it is, it's unfun and unbalanced as hell. And what do we get after a useless 2-month downtime? Cut duels content that forces us to craft Nozdormu. At this point, I'm just confused.
LOL I JUST DISENCHANTED ZUL JIN XD
AND LICH KING
i'll be concerned if there are no achievements
Sooooo the new twist is mainly for wild players? I hate wild, got legend when it launched and i've been uncrafting wild cards ever since to get a shot at playing standard without paying a cent so I guess i'll be skipping this entirely... They should release BG as a separate game at this point with how much weight it's carrying for HS.
Twist was always for mainly Wild players. Idk why people get upset about this.
cant talk without screaming
