Making a Twice Turned Black Walnut Bowl

- I turned this bowl blank a few months ago waiting for it to dry out more. I hit it with the moisture meter a few days ago and it read at 8%, so it was ready to turn again. I used shine juice as the finish, and it came out very nicely. This piece was one of the odd pieces that got tossed off to the side from milling up a black walnut log. It's amazing what can be done with scrap wood.

Thank you! I had a lot of fun on this one. The grain is super amazing in this one. I have another one I'm waiting on to dry more, and I think the grain might be just like this one. It's near a spot in the log where a burl was.

Beautiful bowl! How do you make your shine juice - what’s in it or is it a secret?
Thank you so much! It's no secret for the shine juice. It's 1 part Boiled Linseed Oil, 1 Part Clear Shellac, and 1 part Denatured Alcohol. Mix it up really well, and mark the bottle when you're done using it because the denatured alcohol tends to evaporate somehow. Just fill it back up to the line with denatured alcohol before the next time you use it. Also, only mix up enough of what you might use within a 2 week period.
