Wisconsin's not the only one - Wyoming and Minnesota have that option, too. I live alone and fly independently at least once a year, so I keep one in my car for daily use (I drive) and the other one I only use when I travel - I use one to park in a handicapped spot at the airport (airport is 2+ hours away, so I can't just get dropped off/picked up) and I still have one available to use when I get to my destination. Works brilliantly - it was such a pain that I was only able to get one hang tag at a time when I still had my temporary one, because I had to choose between parking in a handicap spot at the airport and being able to use it at my destination. If I never had to drive myself to/from the airport, I would only need one, but because I do, I need 2.
When I used to drive my grandfather places (who had a placard) I would always drop him off at the front and then go find a normal spot. When we left, I'd run to the car while he waited out front and I would pick him up. Disgusting to see this.
My parents had to do that for me before I got my tag, but my dad would often go to a different store while I shopped with my mom, which made it a little complicated. My mom still does it sometimes if I decide to walk in a store and end up being unable to make it out to the car afterwards, even if we parked in a handicapped spot with my tag.
Great. I've been 100% disabled since 1996. I didn't get a placard until about 7-8 years ago, because I didn't have much problem walking before that. Do now. But still pass on handicap spaces when I can. But some days very thankful for them. Wish more cops did this, good work.

They make washable spray paint. I saw one of those prank channels doing it to people double parking or illegally using the handicap spot. Not sure how real it is but the paint does wipe off.
I personally asked a Menards(regional Lowe's type store) there took 5 spaces away for there own rental trucks. I did not do the bullshit of suing them .that would not help me in the long run. I called the city were this occurs, they in turn check with the state of Minnesota, who regulates the amount of handicap speaces.they went out to the store. Verified what I stated as fact. They then told the store to restore these 5 speaces with signed ,paint , and fined the store I guess. I was call to inform me I was right. Job done. I did not need these speaces before 2010.sho I never gave it much thoght. Now life is different.
Just one of a whole host of reasons: I live alone and fly independently at least once a year, so I keep one in my car for daily use (I drive) and the other one I only use when I travel - I use one to park in a handicapped spot at the airport (getting a ride to/from is not an option for me, so I have to drive myself) and I still have one available to use when I get to my destination. Cali only offers one placard so if you go in another vehicle you have to take yours. I have special plates so its Placard only. Once my truck was in the shop and I forgot it. I received a citation at a hospital parking lot although I just called and it was tossed since I never do that.
I have a permit for my aunt. And we were at the mall when when a SUV pulled up with a lot of teens in it. I told the officer he caught them but they said we won't long they went in and the officer left. It was her grandma placard.
So I have a neighbor who rents her Honda Van to various customers, it has DP Plates. So she is basically allowing anyone to use this DP plate to park in Handicap spaces. This is Wrong and I reported to CA DMV, they did nothing and said they have to catch them in person. Abusing DP plates and Placards in CA is at a High rate and no one cares. Part of the problem.
Tat2Dragons That's a catch 22. Being obese causes type two diabetes, which in turn causes neuropathy. That can make walking difficult and breathing difficult. However, being fat is mostly a choice and therefore choosing to be disabled. So people who are type two diabetic should *NOT* be given handicapped placards. In my opinion anyway.
Burt Gummer Mostly a choice? Some people have disabilities/medical conditions that cause them to gain weight, which can’t always be controlled by diet and exercise.
Tat2Dragons Bullshit! I've an under active thyroid gland. I was told that I wouldn't be able to lose the weight. Not only have I lost and still losing weight, my doctor told me that I reversed my diabetes. I've lost 411lbs without surgery. I made very difficult choices and it has paid off. So yeah, I understand the challenges that people face. You can reverse it. I no longer have trouble breathing. I can walk and bend. Feels great.
I've watched as handicapped people go through so much unnecessary discomfort, stress and even pain just trying to do the smallest errand or keep an appointment because able-bodied people have stolen their parking spaces. Also people parking on handicapped crossed walks forcing the handicapped person to have to walk out in the busy street to go around them. One poor blind man had to walk all the way back home because he could not possibly see well enough to go out into the street. Now that's a sin! A big one too.
Imagine being so selfish and lazy you are willing to inconvenience a legitimately disabled person from being able to navigate through society. The fines should be VERY high.
I too, have two plaques & put one in my wife's car so when I'm in it I don't have to take mine out of my own car. She NEVER uses handicapped spaces without me. Not as much because, if caught, it'd be terribly expensive, but, as she says, "I'd never do that to another handicapped veteran."
Handicapped parking is not enforced in Tucson, and stores like "Circle K" have begun moving the handicapped parking to spaces as far away from the front doors as possible so that their "regular" customers don't have to park away from the door. They even moved the wheelchair cuts onto the sidewalks in front of the stores so they could do this. No one cares in our city or state government. The state now keeps most of the money from the tickets and the city actually loses money prosecuting tickets, so people are allowed to drive up to 10 mph over the speed limit, and red light runners are horrible since they got rid of traffic cameras.
In part, this issue is because most city agencies do not do their job enforcing the laws protecting the disabled, no priority is assigned to correct or enforce the law. Large fines, towing, these actions can make money to pay for enforcement. If tickets were made payable when people get their car sticker, people would have no choice but to pay or no sticker, and another ticket and fine.
In Virginia the cops don't care, who parks in handicapped spaces. I even caught a fairfax county cop in a police car picking up his electric drill at the black and decker store, parked in a handicapped spot.
Oh my goodness, YES! I always have my tag, but when I go with my mom it's next to impossible to find an open handicapped spot at Costco - I really hate it.
HOW can any one USE TWO permits? You can only use one at a time so issuing two is inviting fraud. BUT, if two permits are issued (AGAIN, WHY?) and there is abuse BOTH should be confiscated and force the applicant to JUSTIFY THEIR ACTIONS to the state before a re-issue of ONE permit. The problem is, some family members, such as the guy using his mother's who is in a nursing home, did this without her knowing. He probably applied for the permit 'for her' but uses it himself!
Issuing two is not inviting fraud. Just one of a whole host of reasons: I have a legitimate reason for my hang tags. I live alone and fly independently at least once a year, so I keep one in my car for daily use (I drive) and I use the other one only when I travel - I use one to park in a handicapped spot at the airport (getting a ride to/from is not an option for me, so I have to drive myself) and I still have the other one available to use when I get to my destination. So technically, I AM using both hang tags at once in those situations. Works brilliantly - it was such a pain that I was only able to get one hang tag at a time when I still had my temporary one, because I had to choose between being able to park in a handicap spot at the airport and being able to use it at my destination. If I never had to drive myself to/from the airport, I would only need one. Or if I didn't drive at all, I would only need one - just keep it with me everywhere I go and use it in the car of whoever is driving me. My grandmother has 2 tags as well, because although she doesn't drive, she sometimes forgets that she keeps one in her car, and she also sometimes goes out with my aunts or uncles in their cars, so she keeps the other one in her purse so that they don't have to go down to the parking ramp to retrieve hers out of her car every single time she rides in someone else's car. Same reason as me when flying - she flies in a wheelchair, and so has to use her wheelchair van to get to and from the airport, but doesn't fly alone, so the van still stays parked at the airport: again, ergo, one for the car at the airport, and one for at her destination. No one ever uses her tags unless she's there, because there's zero reason to use her van unless she's there, and she keeps the other tag in her purse. Problem solved, and no invitation for fraud.
Your situations are in the extreme minority where both are used by yourselves personally, obviously, you and your grandmother are not the focus of the fraud being perpetrated by the vast majority. Please don't assume that I was in any way speaking of you.
Anyone notice that the frauds always take the disabled parking bay nearest to the entrance of the store, a small fine is not a deterrent - the vehicle should be impounded or scrapped.
Are the confiscated placards returned to the disabled person then bcuz they still need it, or should the actual disabled person also be punished for the bad choices of their bonehead family member.
Neil Anderson My mother is rather forgetful and keeps her spare placard in her purse. If she goes out with friends, they can display the placard in their car.
Works brilliantly - it was a royal pain that I was only able to get one hang tag at a time when I still had my temporary one, because I had to choose between parking in a handicap spot at the airport and being able to use it at my destination. If I never had to drive myself to/from the airport, I would only need one. Or if I didn't drive at all, I would only need one - just keep it with me everywhere I go and use it in the car of whoever is driving me. My grandmother doesn't drive, but she sometimes forgets that she has one in the car, but keeps one in her purse, in case she goes out with one of my uncles or aunts instead of in her own car.
The worst part is people are proud of themselves for getting away with this. They feel it's their right to abuse this because they are "important" and can do whatever they want.
You think that's bad? Try going to a snow park along I-80 after being one of the few to actually pay for parking. The vast majority of people parking there didn't pay.
And most will be thrown out. Because you not limping does not mean you not handicapped. I had to inform one before that. Because I don't limp. I have a iron lung so walking is impossible for long distance yet I look very normal. I suppose you need job security.
I have a handicapped tag because of the arthritis in both of my knees that make it very painful to walk, BUT, on days where I am able to walk painfree which is rarely, I park in a regular spot so somebody that needs it can park there, I've seen plenty of bs people who don't need it using it, take the tag away, fine them, big time not just $500, I'd say $1000 per offense 1st time, 2nd time $2000, 3rd time $3000 4th time impound the vehicle along with the $4000 fine, AND jailtime...no mercy
I am disabled, due to chronic back pain, arthritis, and Parkinson's...and I have both good and bad days, as well. On a good day- rare, but they happen, I also park in a regular spot, in favor of someone who might need the spot more. But when I see someone with just a placard (I've got permanent disabled license plates), who shows absolutely no sign of any kind of physical disability parking in a disabled spot- it makes me most annoyed. In my area, the fine for that varies, but the minimum fine is a mere $250. Personally, I think the minimum fine should be far higher, like, say, $2,500 for a first offense, doubled every time after that- with mandatory jail time for the fourth or greater offense.
@IAMdevilwomen, are you seeing people that do not have a wheel chair or walker and still assume that they are not handicapped, with the plate or placard on their car? There are illnesses where it is not so visible to see the disability. You cannot assume the someone who has a state tag or placard is not handicapped. People could say the same thing when they see you parking in a handicapped spot with your placard and that do not see your arthritis. Never judge people of what you cannot see.
steep prise tag, not steep enoth i say. the way i would do it: first time offender: 1000 dollar ticket. second time offender: 3000 dollar ticket and 1 month revoked driving license, revoked handicap permit, has to apply for new one, the offender MUST be present and swear a oath to never do it again. third time offender: 15000 dollar ticket and 5 year revoked license, revoked handicap permit for 1 year before applying for a new one, offender MUST be present and beg them for forgiveness, then sign a legaly binding contract stating that they will never abuse the permit again. forth time offender: 50000 dollar ticket, ALL motorised vehicle rights permanently revoked, car towed and held untill ticket is FULLY paid, to claim the car they have to pay additional towing and storrage costs, if ticket is not FULLY paid of within 5 years the car will be auctioned off to pay what remains of the ticket, if there is remaining money the state will keep it, if it is not enoth to pay what remains then you will still be required to pay what remains, if not fully paid off within 7 years there will be 1 month prison for every 1000 dollars remaining, if under 1000 dollars remain it will be 1 month regardless how low it is. the legal system would be rewritten so this would apply to anyone, even the president.
I do wish they would stop using the word handicapped. It refers to a beggar who begs with their cap in hand. I am disabled myself with Multiple Sclerosis and I do not beg!!
Good on them for not caring about being PC. And your interpretation might be what shows up in the etymology of the word, but that is not the contemporary meaning.
see it to often, if I see someone park in a Disabled Parking spot and they are perfectly fine, I say something to them. people are lazy as shit and they wonder why they get obese. I am a bit overweight and I park anywhere, even far if needed. Shame on all who do that.
I wish the Oakland A's would sponsor the use of an officer for this at the Coliseum. Every season more people violate using the handicap parking. And just a tip for legal parkers, Don't use the van parking if you don't need & others are available .
Good I'm glad to see this and that permit should be revoked and they should not be able to get another one if they're going to do shit like that I'm a person with disabilities and that just chaps my ass to see sorry individuals like this and then to hear family members do that shit they don't deserve the placard I think they should take it a step further besides the fines and the in the tickets that they get they should lose their license for a year forcing to take the bus or alternate transportation you know the old expression two wheels beats a set of heels
Well now that's just dumb. We already have enough people overcrowding our jails for stupid reasons. STEEEEEP fines are what's needed. Most people care about money almost as much as freedom. I'm disabled and I hate to see cheaters as much as the next crippled sap, but come on.
Oh my..... I understand they meant well..... but dang this can really really backfire. Healthcare doesn’t grow on trees here in the USA. Not all disabilities r visible (like mine lol!).
Thank you Walt!
Why in the world would the state issue 2 placards for 1 person l dont get it ???
Just one of a whole host of reasons:
I live alone and fly independently at least once a year, so I keep one in my car for daily use (I drive) and the other one I only use when I travel - I use one to park in a handicapped spot at the airport (getting a ride to/from is not an option for me, so I have to drive myself) and I still have one available to use when I get to my destination. Works brilliantly - it was such a pain that I was only able to get one hang tag at a time when I still had my temporary one, because I had to choose between parking in a handicap spot at the airport and being able to use it at my destination.
If I never had to drive myself to/from the airport, I would only need one. Or if I didn't drive at all, I would only need one - just keep it with me everywhere I go and use it in the car of whoever is driving me.
Have you seen the cops using handicapped parking spots?
Yes, and it's illegal.
You go, Walt!
Cali only offers one placard so if you go in another vehicle you have to take yours. I have special plates so its Placard only. Once my truck was in the shop and I forgot it. I received a citation at a hospital parking lot although I just called and it was tossed since I never do that.
About damn time well done get stuck into these people I hate when perfectly able persons taking up parking stops for the people who really need them
Tow! Steep Fines, that's the only way their going to learn!
In Oregon the owner's driver license number is on the permit.
And other states while it isn't on the permit, it's still tied to the DL/state ID number in the system.
Here's the irony, they park there so they don't have to walk very far, taking a spot away from a lot of people whom can't walk.
I have mobility issues and I never use handicap parking because someone needs it more than I do.
There is nothing worse than a lazy fool taking a space reserved for someone who really needs it!
Catching Less Than 3 out of 10 and yet somehow claims that this is a widespread problem?
Fat and lazy is not a valid handicap.
Robert Bowersock No shit! 95% of the people I see parking in those spots..Boom Baba Boom Baba Boom!
Robert Bowersock Of course it’s not and assuming that they are fat and lazy just makes you look like an ignorant fool.
I hope they confiscated both of the placards of the mother that was"sharing" with her daughter.
Maybe they have to raise the ticket fee to $3,000 for the first offense in your vehicle gets towed too
Handicapped parking is not enforced in Tucson, and stores like "Circle K" have begun moving the handicapped parking to spaces as far away from the front doors as possible so that their "regular" customers don't have to park away from the door.
I know someone who does this oall the time and has been reported but nothing gets done at all.
Don't confront ,just ticket, tow and Suspend their driver's license for minium of 30- days.
She drives a Range Rover, she can park wherever she wants
She's a lazy pig
In part, this issue is because most city agencies do not do their job enforcing the laws protecting the disabled, no priority is assigned to correct or enforce the law. Large fines, towing, these actions can make money to pay for enforcement. If tickets were made payable when people get their car sticker, people would have no choice but to pay or no sticker, and another ticket and fine.
In Virginia the cops don't care, who parks in handicapped spaces. I even caught a fairfax county cop in a police car picking up his electric drill at the black and decker store, parked in a handicapped spot.
People like the mother should know better. She should know how hard it is with disabled children to be one of those to add to the problem.
Happens all the time at ALL Costcos EVERYWHERE!
Just one of a whole host of reasons:
I have a legitimate reason for my hang tags.
That is so cool… well done !
Great Job Sir, I commend you.
Revoke those permits. Make the actual owner have to go to court to get them back.
Walt you are my hero.....
The 28 dislikes must have been ticketed by Officer Walt.
It is about time!
No fine for lying to the cops?
I think I would have cut the first guy a break for being upfront and honest with me. The rest? Give them tickets!
I had someone break my car window just to get my handicapped placard.
Need him at our mall. I catch 3-4 every time I go to our mall
come see it in UK its going on all the time.
Why don't we have that, too many people that do that and they get away with it,it really pissing off the true disabled people
I’ve always parked the furthest, that little bit of exercise adds up.
The police should be paid from the parking fines!
3 people per game? i call Bullshit, i see 3 people doing this at any given time in any Grocery parking lot.
Are the confiscated placards returned to the disabled person then bcuz they still need it, or should the actual disabled person also be punished for the bad choices of their bonehead family member.
they just dont give a shit that they are taking away a disability parking spot from someone whom legitimately needs..no concern at all..
Why issue 2 in the first place? That makes no sense.
Neil Anderson My mother is rather forgetful and keeps her spare placard in her purse. If she goes out with friends, they can display the placard in their car.
GOOD on him!
Kudos to that officer and the Brewers!!
The scumbag violators should also have to do 1,000 hours community service at a retirement home!!
And most will be thrown out. Because you not limping does not mean you not handicapped. I had to inform one before that. Because I don't limp. I have a iron lung so walking is impossible for long distance yet I look very normal.
I suppose you need job security.
The officer probably makes more from the Brewers than he would if the city paid.
Damned people don't care. It's time to give them a very expensive fines. Be truth to yourself!!!
Now that’s a good officer doing his job 😊I wish there was more here in Alanta like that💯👍
When legit people have a parking permit and lend them to family members then that permit should be revoked.
Over $500 if caught and it is allways 2 tickets so a g for getting caught abusing handicap parking plus a raise on your insurance
It piss me off to see "cars" parking in a "Van Accessible" parking spot...
I can't stand people who do that it's real bad where I live here in Huntsville, Alabama
Never judge people of what you cannot see.
steep prise tag, not steep enoth i say.
the way i would do it:
first time offender: 1000 dollar ticket.
second time offender: 3000 dollar ticket and 1 month revoked driving license, revoked handicap permit, has to apply for new one, the offender MUST be present and swear a oath to never do it again.
third time offender: 15000 dollar ticket and 5 year revoked license, revoked handicap permit for 1 year before applying for a new one, offender MUST be present and beg them for forgiveness, then sign a legaly binding contract stating that they will never abuse the permit again.
forth time offender: 50000 dollar ticket, ALL motorised vehicle rights permanently revoked, car towed and held untill ticket is FULLY paid, to claim the car they have to pay additional towing and storrage costs, if ticket is not FULLY paid of within 5 years the car will be auctioned off to pay what remains of the ticket, if there is remaining money the state will keep it, if it is not enoth to pay what remains then you will still be required to pay what remains, if not fully paid off within 7 years there will be 1 month prison for every 1000 dollars remaining, if under 1000 dollars remain it will be 1 month regardless how low it is.
the legal system would be rewritten so this would apply to anyone, even the president.
They should put the persons picture on the placard.
I do wish they would stop using the word handicapped. It refers to a beggar who begs with their cap in hand.
I am disabled myself with Multiple Sclerosis and I do not beg!!
TheWillow82 you are right in the UK it disabled parking
Good on them for not caring about being PC. And your interpretation might be what shows up in the etymology of the word, but that is not the contemporary meaning.
Only in America is that acceptable
see it to often, if I see someone park in a Disabled Parking spot and they are perfectly fine, I say something to them. people are lazy as shit and they wonder why they get obese.
Increase the fines! Make it HURT!
Jail time...long enough for them to lose their job. Then people would think twice.
Well now that's just dumb. We already have enough people overcrowding our jails for stupid reasons. STEEEEEP fines are what's needed. Most people care about money almost as much as freedom. I'm disabled and I hate to see cheaters as much as the next crippled sap, but come on.
In CA. It 800.00 fines parking. Kept good up good work.
Some places in WY it's $750, and I'm glad it's not lower.
Oh my..... I understand they meant well..... but dang this can really really backfire. Healthcare doesn’t grow on trees here in the USA. Not all disabilities r visible (like mine lol!). I don’t drive so my family would in fact need to park closer. These instances often force me to “prove” my disabilities (ie showing folks how weak & rubbery my limbs & appendages r....) it’s very degrading. Too many ppl r way too happy to bully others in the names of “justice” what they don’t show is how many folks he “busted” that were actually disabled. Either way nobody wins 😔
