I’ve always been in love with the whole concept of rides with strangers. As a true crime & horror fan and from a psychological standpoint, it’s fascinating and utterly intriguing
I ain't gonna lie bro, this is really ambitious, to the point I don't know if it's possible. Especially since the character models and art style as they are gives off an uncanny feel that helps the atmosphere imo
I understand on what your going through and very surprised that you and your team (if you have one) created these amazing projects, can't wait for future updates
Hey I've been waiting for rides with strangers since the kick starter and wish I could've backed it. But just gotta say this is great all I ever hope for is progress updates just knowing it's being worked on is all I need. I also have lots of respect for people who aren't willing to compromise quality to push out somthing with so much potential. This is exactly what people with passion for what they do should be embodying.
I just came here because I remembered this game (rides with strangers) and I was really excited hoping the game will one day be finished. It's one of those games that would ACTUALLY be terrifying because it's associated with a real experience and more common than it should be. I saw the characters that could hitchhike you (Elora) and I thought it has actual potential. You feel the nervousness and anxiety the protagonist has, you understand her life is at risk and that could really be you if you were in the woods needing for someone to help you go to your work. It's really scary and I hope I will see someday more of that game
Hi Adam, a bit of a contrary opinion here, but I think Rides with Strangers would be better tackled as a smaller, less ambitious game first. Then using everything you've learned (plus the added revenue flow), you can build Rides with Strangers 2 with all the added details and complexity that you wanted. I understand that you intend this to be your flagship title, but big ambitious projects are risky in so many ways. Either way, I'll keep my pledge in. This is just my 2 cents; you're free to tackle it however you want.
Rides With Strangers will get done when it gets done. If you want it to be what defines Reflect Studios, than spend the time and money you know it’ll take. WTTG and Scrutinized have been excellent additions to your portfolio as a developer, but if Rides With Strangers will be what you want to define you, then don’t sweat on the release date. You’ve been extremely generous by offering refunds to those who’ve donated and I hope you’re able to raise the funds necessary to do what you want to do.
"It'll be done when it's done" doesn't really fly when other people funded it. It's a very flippant thing to say to people who collectively gave over $30k. The more full, detailed explanation that he gave here, the acknowledgment that crowdfunding was wrong for this project, and offering refunds is a much more appropriate and respectful way to explain the situation to backers. But don't ever tell someone who funded your project "It's done when it's done."

Hey man, I came across this video because I randomly decided to search for RWS to see if anything new came out about it, as I was extremely intrigued by the demo (also loved WTTG, didn't know until now it was the same creator!). Very much my type of horror with the realism of it, things that can feasibly happen are so much scarier than just ghosts and monsters - also a fan of games like Closing Shift and Parasocial by Chilla's Art for the same reason, that's how you make legit scary stuff! Anyway, it's totally understandable that you have big ambitions for RWS and I'm glad you're taking the time to make sure it turns out as good as it can possibly be, but I wanted to give some input as an audience member. Perhaps the ultra-realism of games like those by Supermassive that you mention isn't necessary? It's extremely resource demanding as you say, and honestly I'm not sure it actually improves the experience. I honestly think that the lower levels of realism in character models and animation actually *contributes* to the creepiness, in a sort of uncanny valley type of way. Like in the RWS demo with the priest, the way he almost robotically turns his head towards you makes me feel even more uneasy than if he were to have a very natural fluid mo-capped human movement, you know? Of course this is just my subjective opinion, it's your project that you should realize in the way you see fit, just wanted to give my two cents about how ultra-realism isn't necessarily always the best path for horror and how it can sometimes even make things less creepy!

Personally, insensitive to continue playing playing such as basic unlockables or some kind of advantages in masks of deception AND having the option of online matchmaking are all incredibly important to the average joe. DLC's are also very recommended for these types of games. Decided to just shout into the void with the hopes it might have helped you a bit.
1. Multiplayer kills the entire horror component in games. It will no longer be a horror game, but a competitive game. 2. For stable online, you need a large audience, otherwise it will die out within about a couple of weeks. 3. DBD still can't be outdone, so why take mechanics out of it? (hacking terminals instead of doing gens while the killer is coming for you)
A horror game being multiplayer doesn't kill the entire horror component. Horror is a culmination of things. It isn't just about scaring you. Outlast Trials for example is a solo to co-op experience and has tons of horror components in the game. I recommend looking up the definition of horror, as you seem to be misinformed, no offense.
i'm so looking forward to the next chapter for Welcome To the Game, with WTTG2 being one of my favorite games ever. i acquired a lot of knowledge on the game and helped a lot of people out with it so far because of how hard it is... even if i don't have 3, let alone 1 friend to play the new one with.. i'm still excited and hope to be able to play it regardless.
Only make a timeline for you to hit your goals!! Otherwise, I think Rides with Strangers needs to be what you want it to be fully, and I'll personally wait another 5 years or a decade if it becomes the best it can be!! Just happy to hear update.

I am glad to hear that you are eager to continue work on it, as that relieves my worry quite a bit. I like most of your games, but Rides With Strangers is a game I've been looking forward to for a long while now and my love for its concept has never died after all these years. The characters, atmosphere, idea - I adore all of it and know it can be truly successful if treated with care and effort. I understand that you want the game to be big, since it is intended to be your "magnum opus", and therefore the amount of money you're wanting to fund it for your current vision to be brought to life makes sense. That said, I hope that you make something out of the game even if you don't get the exact amount you're wanting. The concept is simply too good to be left to rot, ya' know? Of course, it's all your call. Whether the game ends up being more complex or simplified doesn't really matter to me. I would like to see RWS released, but I'm impressed with the titles that are already on steam like Welcome to the Game. I hope you the best on your future titles.
I was 17/18 when I saw the Rides with Strangers demo and Welcome to the Game. I'll be real, I prefer the "Sit in a room searching for keys/proof and deal with home invasion or avoid your captor" games you made, but I'll always look forward to your work and will definitely buy the new Welcome to the Game to play it with my friends when it comes out.

Wooowwwww i had no idea you had this big vision for rides with strangers I thought it was scrapped. I’m excited! Especially after everything else you put out has been consistently good.

Admittedly, I had gotten the impression that you had lost interest in Rides With Strangers. I am glad to hear that you are eager to continue work on it, as that relieves my worry quite a bit. I like most of your games, but Rides With Strangers is a game I've been looking forward to for a long while now and my love for its concept has never died after all these years. The characters, atmosphere, idea - I adore all of it and know it can be truly successful if treated with care and effort.
I understand that you want the game to be big, since it is intended to be your "magnum opus", and therefore the amount of money you're wanting to fund it for your current vision to be brought to life makes sense. That said, I hope that you make something out of the game even if you don't get the exact amount you're wanting. The concept is simply too good to be left to rot, ya' know?
Of course, it's all your call. Whether the game ends up being more complex or simplified doesn't really matter to me. I may not agree with everything you've said and done, but I do have faith that, when RWS releases, it will be the best it can be within your means. Good luck to you and your future projects. I'll be looking forward to seeing more.
I still had high hopes for Rides with Strangers. Didn't want to believe doubters who claimed the game was cancelled (and all the other stuff). I'll wait. Looking forward to it's quality and completion, however long it will take.

I was there for the rides with strangers kickstarter streams. I knew there was something different about the demo and your game design ideas back then.
I would like to see RWS released, but I'm impressed with the titles that are already on steam like Welcome to the Game.

I was 17/18 when I saw the Rides with Strangers demo and Welcome to the Game.
I'll be real, I prefer the "Sit in a room searching for keys/proof and deal with home invasion or avoid your captor" games you made, but I'll always look forward to your work and will definitely buy the new Welcome to the Game to play it with my friends when it comes out.
Hey Adam, thanks for giving us a big update about RWS and keeping servers up. Will the next WTTG have the ability for you to influence the match live? Seems kind of like The Outlast Trials. Looking forward to it!

I'm legit excited and can't wait for Rides With Strangers to come out; it looks and feels so realistic, so intense to where it has you on the edge of your seat, and so fun! I know I'm a little bummed and surprised that it's gonna be very expensive to make and develop (because my god that's a lot of money, and it takes a lot of saving up).
As a fan of Rides With Strangers, Welcome To the Game, and Scrutinized - I would definitely love to help bring Rides With Strangers to life, if I was ever given the opportunity to. Whether it's voice acting or concept art drawings of the characters, I'd love to help out!
