- If you are a believer of big things coming in small packages then you have to check on the 2018 Ford Fiesta ST. This hot hatch features a 1.6L inline-4 turbocharged engine putting out 197HP. Young guys? I'm an old guy. I love my FiST! I could have gotten something faster, but unless you're racing, you won't ever use 500 hp on the street. Fun, torquey, and handles like a go cart. I've always preferred small cars, because most of the time, I'm the only one in it. Great car for a dad whose wife has the SUV, but he needs to haul the kids now and then, too. When he's by himself, he has a car that's really fun to drive, fast or slow.

2017. I put a mild tune and a shift kit on it. That cost me around $1000. I love having a car that does 1-60 in 6.4 seconds (according to the tuner), and still gets around 30 mpg. It's a sports car that looks like an economy car, and it always makes me grin. Here's what mountune says: Once upgraded, power increases from 197HP to 215HP and torque is raised from 202 lb.-ft to 236 lb.-ft.
Standard Fiesta ST:
0-62mph: 6.9secs
31-62mph (4th gear): 6.4secs
Mountune Fiesta ST 215PS:
0-60mph: 6.4secs
31-62mph (4th gear): 5.7secs

2750 lbs. or so. Yeah, it's a little car, but it feels like it's got a big engine in it. It has a lot of torque pushing it. Not too small, though. I'm 6' 1" and I don't feel cramped at all. I'm going to the driving school in August, too. The dealer didn't even know about that. They don't sell a lot of them, which is a shame. It's a real hidden gem. Just read/watch any review. I had a Fiesta ST for 6 years. It is the ultimate daily driver. Practical, fuel efficient, nimble, easy to park and best fun to cost ratio out there.

Took my FiST through some mountains the other day driving up north from Georgia and I had a stupid grin on my face the entire time. It's impossible to not have a blast driving this car. Handles like a dream, doesn't care how fast you take corners. Regret nothing getting mine!
I went to the Ford Performance Racing Center for the Octane Academy. Believe me, this car is a wolf in sheep's clothing. This car is capable of SO much. Even this little guy CANNOT be pushed to its limit on the streets. Dont believe me? Take it to a track.

I had two 2014 FiST awhile back. The first one was blue, but sadly some jerk drove across 3 lanes of traffic to make an exit ramp on the right, slamming into the front left fender of my FiST! I saw it coming out of the corner of my eye and tried to swerve out of the way, but he still nailed me starting to cause my car to begin going sideways exaggerated by me already trying to avoid him, then took off. Thanks to years of racing in SCCA, my skills just kicked in, and out of 5 possible endings, only 1 where I would live, I got it under control and survived. But sadly, the car was totaled, the front completely gone. But thanks to how well this car is built, I walked away totally unscratched, only extremely pissed off! Even the cops that showed up, and the paramedics, were totally amazed I lived. Then as I could not find another blue FiST in a 1000 miles radius, I ended up with that special Raptor metallic orange color.
Both had the Recaro seats. I loved this car! It was fun, fast, handled amazing, and was SAFE! Also, still fast using REGULAR unleaded gas!! Sadly, due to finances, I had to get rid of it, and got a 2013 Sonic RS. I will say this, though the Sonic RS has no HP, it seems to handle much better than the FiST, even on stock all season tires, wow. So at least I can still have some low speed fun in the twisties. But I still miss my FiST!

I am 6'2" about 300 lbs, I couldn't believe for much headroom I had in it, not to mention how fun it felt on the test drive.
The Peugeot 205 kicked it's ass back in the day,the 208 GTi is kicking it's ass today.

Traded in my Fiesta ST for a Focus RS. I wish I could have kept both. That Fiesta ST is such a blast.

I still drool for an RS to drive like a boss. I have a 2017 Focus ST basic. 9k miles.
Had my ST 12 months now and it's a brilliant car, great fun to drive and it's funny pissing some people off with the power it has for a small car. If you are thinking of getting one in the UK then go for the ST 3, you get the full package, better stereo, recaro seats, satnav, cruise control and the ST styling pack.

I've had my little white 'angry sea creature' since June of this year, a 2014 (first year in N/A) - and I can attest that it's the kind of car you look for a reason to go for a ride anywhere, anytime! Quick, stupidly nimble, roomy, comfortable, great on gas, rare! - reliable, subtly sexy (from most angles) - and just a great value! Ford knocked it out of the park with this car. Great review!

I drove this car today for the first time and holy crap it's so fun! I daily drive a 17 STI and part of me was tempted to trade it in for the Fiesta. Yeah, it's not nearly as powerful but I was just cracking up the whole time about how much this car can do. If you're a true enthusiast that doesn't want to shell out the money for an STI, Evo, or RS then you should seriously consider this car, just drive it, it's ridiculous!

100% agree ... I had an E36 M3, and an ap2 S2000 and this is at least as much fun and possibly more ... one of the greatest performance bargains in a generation.
These are not just for younger people. I am 48 and I bought a used SE 2012 for $4800 with a manual. It is fun, reliable, quick and even at 140k still get's 40 mpg. I love it and would buy one again. Likely get an ST if it has not been abused ( Most cars like this are beat up but kids before going on the used market). My only 2 knocks are the rear vision is not as good as you think due to the high back rear seats. Also the radios notoriously short out. But you can get a used one for $100

The sound is piped in, but it’s real. No gripes from me. They have to overcome the heavy insulation somehow and I think Ford’s solution is totally legit.

Absolutely not a single regret purchasing my FiST. I test drove the FoST first and then right after the FiST. I just really enjoyed how much more fun the Fiesta was to drive. Not trying to take anything away from the Focus though. Mine is a 14' and after 65k miles not a single problem with it. Mine have every available option and the Recaros have to be my favorite. Ive owned a few little turbo cars (MazdaSpeed3,Srt4,GTI mk4,mk5) and the FiST has been my favorite. Considering trading in for a RS but idk bc I really love my FiST.

I've had my 2018 Orange Spice Fiesta ST a couple of months and I agree with a lot of what you said. The climate controls take a bit of learning and the interior is cheaper looking, but that's not why you buy one. It is such a blast rowing through the gears from every stoplight!
I love these my buddy had one years ago. Fun to drive on the Twisties. 0-60 is a little too slow for me. I mostly commute and I love to get up to speed quickly once in a while. What little thrills I have during the workweek... Haha

Hey Joe, Excellent presentation of the FIST! I bought a 2017 last October, and absolutely LOVE the car!! As a previous owner of a Focus ST, I was familiar with the ST's performance and offerings. I will admit I like the Fiesta better than the Focus. The fun Factor of driving the Fiesta ST is a SOLID 10!! It's a shame Ford is discontinuing to offer it after 2018 in the US. Hope you do some more video's on the FIST! Excellent work....my friend!!

I traded my 2014 FIST for a 2016 RS. I missed the FIST so much that I ended up buying a base one used. The RS has since been sold (for a sports car) , the FIST is a keeper.

I love this little car! especially on that color! Fast to drive, the manual gearbox is a joy to use, and its just an incredible little vehicle. Too bad the new version that is sold still in Europe is no longer sold in the US. Also, incredible gas mileage! So, you get a fast car that won't break the bank with higher gas prices. Basically, compare it to the VW Golf GTI, and this is a cheaper car that can hang with the GTI.
SO happy I got my 2017 ST new while they are around! Now that Ford eschewed their car line-up, these will be rare as hen's teeth.

They latest upcoming model has 1500cc three cylinder engine putting out 200hp and heaps of torque, sounds better being a three pot

Raiti's Rides I like it better than the fiesta, but sometimes I miss the surge of a little turbo :). For me the 86 feels more special, and with proper tires it handles like a dream. Most of the time the fiesta was really just.. a fiesta.
I would purchase either one of these cars again, they are great. I just prefer low stance RWD N/A over the hot hatch segment.

Tell them we want the all-new generation Fiesta ST and/or Focus ST hatchbacks with MANUAL TRANSMISSION in the U.S./Canadian market. If all their customers are telling them, they'll listen and bring us BACK by popular demand these best-in-class driver's hatches. There's a reason these cars are best-sellers in Europe, they are the best cars to drive in this price range and have the best shifting manual gearbox too! Thank you for your support in this petition effort!
How’s the reliability of this car? I drive a lot. 80 miles a day for 6 days a week and if I’m going to buy one, I don’t want headaches. I plan to keep the car for around 6 years or longer. Thanks!

VERY reliable, they even identified potential issues in the first couple of years, despite not many problems with those early ones, the '17 and '18 are all dialed in nicely!
I was really psyched about this car and became depressed when they announced there wouldn't be one in the US for 2018. Well when I saw it on the Ford configurator online for 2018, I jumped on it. Went to the dealer and couldn't find the one I wanted i.e., Magnetic, Recaros, Moonroof and Nav anywhere. I ordered it in February and the build week should be June 4th. If everyone else camped on this, do you think Ford would get the message that there is a niche for this kind of car? Oh SUVs are OK but, I was able to kill many in the snow with a 2009 GTi and Blizzaks! Ford should make a new Cobra with the top down to replace the lost Honda S2000! A Ford Miata would take the market. Please Ford.... give us a sports car!

The fiesta is extremely limited in production numbers as compaired to the focus ST. I'm still suprised by how many times im stopped at the store, car shows and even in traffic by people wanting to tell me how they havent seen one in person. Each year around 15k focus st are made but only 5k fiesta's

I have a fiesta st200, it is a very quick car, you can drive tight corners fast, i drive this little thing easy to 240kp/h...

Get stage 3 and you unlock this car. Also most of the bolt-ons help with reliability without sacrificing the cars daily drivability.

How would you compare this to the Hyundai Elantra sport? Just looking for a fun commuter! I have two small children which I pick up from school, other than that it's just me! The weekends we spend in the wife's MDX.
If I was going the Elantra GT direction I would go with the GT N-Line, Stay tuned because tomorrow it is hitting the channel.

I unfortunately had to part with my 14 cooper s last year due to a hit and run. But she was replaced with a 15 Fiesta ST and I don’t regret it at all. I went to the test drive with an open mind thinking it would be a base trim, there weren’t many pics. But then I saw the sunroof and recaros and knew I had to take it

Saul Beltran here in the States the 2017 & 2018 are identical. In Europe they have a redesigned Fiesta ST.

This is the u.s. st? There is a new Fiesta Generation. The new st has 1.5 litre threecylinder With a partial shutdown of one cylinder. When you are Not going full throttle IT runs on 2 cylinders and its hard to recognize IT when you are driving it. Greetings from Germany

When I test drove this car, I felt that the gas and brake pedals were really close together. Did you notice anything about that? I loved the car but felt it was a little expensive new. I would buy it preowned though.
padistedor the foot box was to tight. For me the test is heel-toe downshifting and it went perfect.
If you wait a little this car will have awesome rebates. Last year with Recaros you were looking at $18k. That to me is a hell of a deal.

2012, still a nice car. But needs a 6th gear and a bit more torque. About 3.5k revs in 5th at 80mph on the motorway (the limit is 70 but everyone does 80 lol)

Old news...I just moved back from Germany and they had the 2d ST for years....and BTW you really want a POCKET ROCKET? try the Ford Fiesta EVO R5 (1000hp).
Scallywag 151 Europe has had a lot of models we can get here in the States. It’s ridiculous! The R5 would be mind blowing to drive!
So I am torn between FiST and Focus ST. Seems like both are about the same price used and I know you have driven both so for daily driving no family to haul what would you recommend.
I would actually go Fiesta ST. Not as fast but more fun.
Planning on buying one of these in the next week or so after somebody totaled my 07 civic si sedan :(. Any new downsides to buying one, in light of the fordpocolypse "the car company that sells no cars anymore" bomb they dropped on us? I've noticed a lot of people saying they aren't going to buy the fist/fost/rs they were planning to anymore and not sure if its because they wont be selling them soon or if there are other reasons?
mb bm there would be no reason not to get one because Ford is going to stop its passenger car lineup. Parts will stay still be made and warranties will still be covered.
Thanks Raiti! I went and test drove one a couple days ago at Mossy Ford. Fell in love with it. Ended up giving me a very fair offer, after fees and taxes, out the door. Told them I wanted to think about it overnight. Came back in today with the check, did all the paperwork. Then they come back with a number on a paper saying "ok, this is how much to write down, after taxes." $3000 higher. Then they call the salesman who made me the original offer and they tell me he says he never made me the offer. Eventually, another salesman makes me an offer $1200 higher than original offer and asks if i can meet him anywhere. Walked out.
Car is phenomenal, go kart/rally car.

Also agreed on the artificial sound. Even my 2012 GTI has the "soundaktor" that a lot of people disconnect. Who cares? It sounds cool as-is. I left mine in.

I don't think so! It just goes to show that there is more to enjoying a car then just horsepower.
I feel the same about the tiny compartment behind the shifter on the RS. Kinda useless. I just keep my microfiber there for the nav screen!

Better get them now kids because after this year there is no more ST's being produced for the North American market. Ford is killing all cars by 2020 for North America except for the Mustang. End of a Era. The only good thing is the ST'S just became somewhat of a collectors Item.

Its going to be a little tight. I think the biggest part will be getting your legs in and out. Best thing to do is go and take one for a test drive. It is a fun car.
I don't care for a 4-door in this size class. Is it available in the 2 door w/hatch like my old MK1 GTI?

I have no idea why they don't export to America more often, its a very large demographic to just overlook. It could come down to the cost of import with time of travel and what not, I'm not 100% sure if the American made stuff makes its way to Europe other than the GT and the Mustang GT.

What up Joe! My two cents here owning a Focus ST, I find the extra power, and tunes available much more attractive. Also, I couldn't fit in the Fiesta being 6'1 and most of my length in the legs

Really? In 6'3 240 and found the fiesta way more comfortable in the driver's seat. Sure it's smaller everywhere else but not the driver's seat.

Loss on trade in is huge and the performance is less with a Fiesta, roominess for cargo and people is less and interior is not as nice ....silly decision.
The Focus was slightly quicker in a straight line, everywhere else it wasn't as good as the Fiesta. The Focus was bigger but it's a very cramped interior and I'm not a big guy. I was disappointed in a lot of ways with the focus, the headlights (xenon) were a joke, Focus has a weird shifter position in relation to the center arm rest. The paint quality for a nearly 30k dollar car was unacceptable. There is a reason a lot of automotive journalists prefer the Fiesta ST over the Focus.
Are Ford off loading the 1.6 ST onto the US market? The 2018 Fiesta ST in the UK and Europe is all new with a 3 cylinder 1.0 turbo engine.

Hey Raiti, thanks for the reply. Right now there is a $3000 incentive until Oct 1st. So I am seeing inventory prices around 19k for ST's. Would it be possible to work with them to get that down to 18k? or do you think 19k is already the lowest they will go. I would like to put 3k down and finance 15k. That is my plan.

I was about to buy Fist but the downside was room. I have a family of 5. so its a no go for me and bought Fost.

The Fiesta ST is only 30% Original fiesta. Even the frame and chassis is stiffer over the base model.

Why is Ford USA selling the "old" 2008-2017 Fiesta ST as a 2018 in the USA?
The 2018 ST that is coming has a 1.5L Ecoboost with 200PS and 290Nm.

I had a facelift 2006 Fiesta ST and i loved it. 2.0L with 150 NA PS. Nothing broke in all those years except a wheel bearing that wore out and the line to the steering assist having a minor leak and i tossed the car around like crazy. I never regretted having bought the car on a whim from a coworker after just a 15 minute test drive.
Too bad they went the downsizing path but at least they increased the power. I didn't like the 2008-2017 model because the dash was cluttered, it had like 100 buttons but maybe it was just the trim so i got a 2010 Mustang GT instead.
I hope you get the new model next year, i haven't driven it yet but i'm sure it's going to be a great little pocket rocket with the 1.6L 4 cylinder instead of the 1.5L Ecoboost 3 cylinder. Sure the car had cheap materials but all the money went into the parts that matter.
Once again I appreciate the extra insight! I'm not going to hold my breath for the new model! These cars just don't take off here in the USA. It's a shame, because many people are missing out!
