Brilliant review. What I miss from all these reviews is a comparison the smallhd 1303, which this is clearly inspired by / the budget version of. but I will take your english channel swimming joke as fair tradeoff. Very very well done
Thanks so much! Yeah, I've realized with the style in which I do these the trade-off is less technical demonstration and detail. I figure other channels have that covered so well, I try to go more for showing it in action, and my impressions as a filmmaker. So hard to balance is this style, ha.

That being said no one on youtube (or anywhere else i can find) seems to be pitting it against the smallhd 1303 so I’m still left wondering what the tradeoff in panel quality are that come with the savings. I’d love to know if it would work as a focus monitor, what’s your impression?
@@mennyus I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be good for focus. I'll toy a little more w focus peaking and get back to you, but as far as image goes the differences between this and 4k are truly imperceptible. Amazing color and clarity

Thanks man! Good question. My assumption is yes if you are using SDI. Because there are three SDI ins. But I don't have any SDI supported cameras unfortunately, so I haven't been able to test. Only one HDMI in though, which is kind of frustrating.

$900 for this?! They must be crazy. If this was $250-ish to $350 maayybe yes. Otherwise this is waaay too overpriced with very limited use-cases.
This is among the cheapest of its kind. For this size at 10bit HDR, believe it or not 900 is about as good as it gets. Atomos is 1300 (17in), small HD 13in 4000, Lilliput has a 4k one for 900 but it's 8bit. Feelworld has a 28in 4k one for 900. But a lot of people prefer the smaller size of the 15.
@@ScottJeschke You can just get a cheap portable laptop monitor from Amazon ($150) with almost the same functionality. Or better, if you are using Sony camera, just get your good ol tablet (or just buy one for $500) and the Monitor+ app and you have an awesome wireless monitor with 1300+ nits , all the luts functionality and more and you can also use the tablet for 10 thousand different things (including flying your drone). Yea, I just don't see the value in this. Maybe in a niche settings where you must look "professional" in front of a client. But for everyday youtube or content creator, there is just no value in this.
That's fair. I think it all depends on needs, production scale, etc. I think this monitor is a good fit for smaller commercial and indie film type stuff, which is my primary wheelhouse. Proper, mounting options, SDI, LUTs, calibration etc just make for a good out of the box solution

Haha yep. Doing a consult for a client who has a set of them so I figured this would be a good video to rent one as a b cam. Let's just say I'm glad I have a Sony haha
