It would be an interesting video to learn about how the ship wound up there and it's history. We all dream about finding a GW button. But just imagine all the GW buttons that were on those decks it's those places that make the buttons collectable.
The sloop was in the second naval engagement of the war. After capturing the Margaretta, which was called a tender ship at the time, they stripped it of guns and swivels. Then mounted them on another captured ship and renamed that ship Machias Liberty. As you can see it was a pretty small ship. Nothing I can find that tells what they did with the ship after stripping it but it was badly damaged before the battle from trying to exit from the hostile region. They probably left it on the beach area somewhere. Several British ships were captured by Jeremiah O'Brien, including the Margaretta and many ships since have been named after him.
Fascinating, that boat was built a year before my house here in rural Scotland, it surely deserves to be preserved and taken care of, it's part of history !
@@speakfreely.1776 It's a stone house with small windows and walls 3ft. thick. Our village was built as a weavers village to stimulate the economy after the Scottish/English wars for independence .The house was a weighbridge office and a residence for workers, it's now divided into 4 flats.
Probably went through my neck of the woods on the way to Machias. A bunch of Revolutionary War history in the area. Maybe check out Castine sometime when you're up. Remains of a British fort, and a canal they dug. And look into Saltonstall's Navy.
My daughter likes to mudlark the shore when we're up there. She takes a stick and lifts the kelp to look under it. There's a lot that gets trapped under there!
Insane that I was around when the original video went up and still here now. Keep going chig you'll find another musket soon or hopefully another haul of silver reals
Poor old sloop Margaretta! Yes, just her bones remain. An ignominious end. It would be nice if someone would rescue what is left and try to restore her, maybe there is something left in the wheelhouse? No when you brought us here last year Chig I remember her being more intact.
I gotta say you remind me of that old johnny cash song , I've been trying every where man, lol. You get around love it. Maine, Arizona, mass, love your videos I get to take a trip to some new location all the time.👍
I have a maine history book written in '47 that tells a very detailed history of Machias and other costal communities envolvement in the events leading to war.
Just imagine some Brittish troops sitting in that boat, been chased by the Militia, sinking the ship and trying to escape. Isn´t it interesting? Lots of different destenys...
how do you know this is the margaretta? I've known several people who claimed to know where she was, but none of them had any credible proof. I'm not saying you (or they) were wrong; but I'm curious on an academic level.
On the traveling right now so can't hang around tonight. Talk to ya soon.

Wikipedia has a very good page on this action of 1775 under HMS Margaretta@@beepseatsfindingfoodtreasu8756

Thank you for.sharing some history about her!
Appreciate the information. Interesting.
That information is really great, too bad this ship wasn't worth salvaging.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Wow! That was cool seeing the remains of that Revolutionary War boat. Thanks for sharing
That is entirely too cool to not be recovered and put in a museum.
I agree Chigg needs to be put in a museum 😮❤
There's one in Kansas City
Lol, I don't blame you Chigg🥶Epic relic!!!!!!!
My 5th great grandfather, Benjamin Foss was one of the patriots who participated in the commandeering of the Margaretta.

What type of house is it?

Thank you Mr. Chigg. It certainly takes a unique set of skills to thrive along the costal North Atlantic. Tough people.
The ship is very cool.
Thanks Chigg for another great AQUACHIGGER ADVENTURE
so cool to be back here !! I loved the lighthouse crevices also !
I'll hopefully get back there someday.

Good evening from Southeast South Dakota
Aloha Chigg, Thanks for the companionSHIP.
Wish I knew where this was! Love that old Rev War history, I was just up in Machias this summer and will be there again next year.
Is that blue glass bottle, in the UK they are classed as a nice find, poison bottles in blue very nice,
My daughter likes to mudlark the shore when we're up there. She takes a stick and lifts the kelp to look under it. There's a lot that gets trapped under there!
Very cool.
I think captn Billy and toran is one my favorites.
Thanks chigg for the video keep safe
I think the things you were finding a bunch of at the beginning of the video were the mount pieces for oar locks. Where the locks slip into.
I can see that. Thanks.
By the size of that wreckage I’d say it was a schooner … very fast boats for the time. They could sail circles around the larger man o wars ..
Thanks.
Very neat
Very interesting 😊
🧤🧤🧤Revolutionary homestead/ log cabin sites are okay, beachcombing too, but wooden ship wrecks are the best ! ⛵️😁
Welcome back to Maine Beau

Where exactly is this I want to take a picture to show my son?
I cant believe i missed thia,i used to live in Machias, lived there fpr 25 years very familiar with the Margaretta.
It's still there at low tide if you want to see it.
Sweet video dude 👍
Hello Bo couple of months and be scooting down the river on your jet boat. 👍 hope Billys well 🍺🍺
Lots of interesting stuff now I’d like really like to detect that but can’t great video Chigg
I gotta say you remind me of that old johnny cash song , I've been trying every where man, lol. You get around love it. Maine, Arizona, mass, love your videos I get to take a trip to some new location all the time.👍
Didn’t know you were in Maine! I live near Auburn.. we could’ve seen ya 😕
Good stuff!!
Sad to know it will rot away, something like that would get saved by the museum where I live.
The items you mistake for bushings or axles are lamp tops.
Oh my nenith Chigg it's Billy 😮
"Margaretta Day" is celebrated annually in Machias.
It's our history, of course it's worth doing a video about.
Darn it! I was bringing out the garbage!
I guess I still made it.
I have a maine history book written in '47 that tells a very detailed history of Machias and other costal communities envolvement in the events leading to war.
To cool! T4S. 👍😘
Chiggs 🤙👍🏼🍺
The blue bottles are Bromo Seltzer bottles.
That part at 2:26 mins in reminds me of me on a saturday nite pist n broke lol
It would have been cool if you may have seen if they have a pic of what they thought the boat may have looked like. Just a thought
It looked cold there.
It was.
sweet
I remember a couple of years ago you dug up some old rhubarb when you were in Maine, did you get it to grow back at your place ?
The Ground Will Eat Thing's And Over Time It Will Show It To You And Take It Back One More Time. 😎👍✌.
That ship was part of the very first “official” Navel battle of the of the rev war.
When they scuttled her, they cut the masts and covered her in felled trees to prevent the British from reacquiring her.
I believe those were bluing bottles.
old tubes from knob and tube electric??...just a guess, but they look similar
fascinating. The only war piece from the civil war that I've ever been that close to was my mother in law.
Would love to see this in person.. Where do i go to see it?
Yes. 1
Makes me wonder who threw that stuff out there no way to find out but it’s interesting Chigg
You got to look under the seaweed, keeps glass whole.
Did those bottles come out of the blue bottle cave?lol
Do you not get the clay smoking pipes , washed up in the states?
Maine 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
You can’t metal detect around the ship, but you can collect bottles and other things around it?
Truck tour soon!
I should do that....
Look for that meteorite while you're there.
What types of metal do you recycle?
😀
All of that BROKEN GLASS AND BOTTLES that you find in those creeks and inlets is a good reminder to NOT BE WADING BAREFOOT in that water!
Hey Chigg
Just imagine some Brittish troops sitting in that boat, been chased by the Militia, sinking the ship and trying to escape. Isn´t it interesting? Lots of different destenys...
Have you reuploaded this, sure seen it before chigg
It’s a revisit.
Wonder if my carcass will be that identifiable in 250 years?

Wasted away again in Margarettaville ?
are you gonna metal detect the wreck site.
Come back home where it's warm. 84* today. 😂

Not first😂
Are you back in Maine?
Or is this an older video?

COULD'VE BEEN A BLOCKADE BOAT FOR THE BRITISH.???
