Will this help lights on a avensis T25 which are very bad at night? A well known problem on the T25.

Depends, outside layer of plastic can be worn and this will help. If inside layer of your lamp and reflective areas inside are "foggy" then unfortunately you would have to renovate the whole thing.
I've got Corolla E12 so very similar car and polishing the outside layer improved a lot. Pretty much every car with plastic lamps have this issue. Make sure you apply some sort of protective layer after polishing
