Good evening Mike, hope all is well with you. It's been such an awesome day here, a real Indian summer kind of day & the hunter's moon was so pretty. Since it's almost 7 PM here hope your day has been blessed & thank you for # 5.The Colorado Spruce is pretty.👋😉😎💥🐓😂

Good evening, Carolyn; Thanks for tuning in as well as the comments. The fire weather warning was extended for another couple of hours as the wind is still blowing rather hard. It was pretty nice day beyond that. That full moon almost directly over the Zephyr was neat. I am hoping to catch that again tomorrow.
I hope that you had a nice afternoon and evening.
Please take care and stay safe! 🤓👋👍🐓👌

I've ridden this train several times deadheading back to Denver. I was a BNSF Engineer and ran those coal trains between Sterling and Denver, and freight between McCook and Denver which sometimes included the deadhead back. AMTRAK comes along and we’re stuck in a siding waiting sometimes for hours. [BNSF Engineer, retired.]

Good morning, DirtyLil-Hobo; I thank you for dialing in and the comments. I enjoy hearing from those who worked over these rails. One of the first viewers I had was based in Sterling. He also worked AMTRAK thru here. I have seen coal drags stuck in sidings for long periods of time at several sidings across the Brush Sub. I have also listened to dispatch trying to keep everything liquid out here as well. That is the one position I would not want with BNSF. Or any other Class 1 railroad.
I did apply to BN (at that time), UP, and AMTRAK when I retired from the US Navy in the early 90s. UP and AMTRAK sent the form letter back with the infamous "Don't call us. We'll call you" while BN never replied. Oh well.
I hope that you have a great Friday.
Please take care and stay safe!

Nice one Mike. I am really surprised at how much traveling the Amish do by train. We see quite a few through Ft. Morgan. I'm going to an Amish auction at a friends place about an hour away this Saturday. It's always a good event. Great shot of the moon there. Thanks for taking the time and have a great day.

Good evening, Lou; I thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. It is a stop for many Amish headed for an enclave in far northwestern Nebraska. Some are living there and use the train to go the distances for family visits. As they leave the train here, they have another 2.5 to 4 hours ride via van or pickup with a crew cab before they are at the locations. I have chatted with several here and they are quite nice folks. I like the foods the women prepare and sell. Used to drive out to Lancaster County in Pennsylvania when I was stationed in Philadelphia just for the wonderful foodstuffs. I hope that you enjoy the auction you are going to.
Anyway, have a great evening and a super Friday.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good late morning Mike! 11:41 hours here. I saw the bright moon out here this morning as well. A short dwell time and they’re on their way to Denver. Should be 63 here today! It was a little frosty again really early this morning but it’s long gone now! Have a great Thursday out your way Sir! I am definitely here! Mark in Iowa.

Good afternoon, Mark; Thanks for dropping by and the comments. They did a good job with it this morning. I am sure they made Denver with plenty of time to spare. Still shooting for 80 here. Wind is to get up this afternoon. Much colder tomorrow. About time for that.
Have a great afternoon and evening back there.

Great view of the "Hunter's Moon" today Mike ; and glad to see the Zeph. is on time. I think of the days when the original 1936 Denver Zephyr cam this way on Burlington tracks !

Good morning, Norman; Thank you for stopping by along with the comments. I hoped to catch the full moon today. Worked out quite well.
This station was active when the first Zephyr made the speed run to Chicago way back then. The dispatcher was located at the Brush depot for that run. The film of the run does show the sidings that were holding carloads of sugar beets waiting to be unloaded at the Great Western Sugar Refinery on the north side of town. I worked in that building for many years after I transitioned from the US Navy. It is the last active sugar refinery in Colorado and is now part of Western Sugar Cooperative.
      Anyway, have a great Thursday.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good morning: Nice easy stop this morning, train right on time. Looks like they got some of the lights fixed and working. Looks like a cool morning. The weather man say ABQ may get some rain today. Believe when I see it. 52 degrees this morning. It’s now time for second cup of coffee and breakfast. Than PT. You have a great day and be safe.😊😊😊😊😊

Goodmorning, Gerald; Thanks for dialing in as well as the comments. Ollie did a good job of spotting the active car this morning. As for the light that is not flickering anymore, I am unsure if they found a switch, or it died an unnatural death. I have noticed another interior light that is no longer illuminated this morning. That lamp isn't in the waiting area so few would recognize it.
The wind is to ramp up here later and is ahead of the cold front moving into the region tomorrow. May get moisture Sunday. Then it warms up again.
Have a great Thursday down there.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good morning Mike I will pickup the 5 from Reno tomorrow morning heading back home. Had a good trip on the 6 yesterday. Not the best weather but it was still fun. Great train crew. The Amtrak coffee wasn't that bad either. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Mike. Nice routine stop in Fort Morgan for an on-time Zephyr
Cool night here, even turned the heat on to warm the downstairs as I made coffee. High today only 65°. Stay safe and be careful. Enjoy that moon again tonight.

Good afternoon, Jim; Thanks for tuning in as well as the comments. Wow! To have to turn on the heat! It is chilly back there. The heat is running here but it is set on the thermostat, and we leave that alone. It will shut down in a bit. It is 70 F currently out here (1008 MDT). Should hit 80 before the wind starts bringing in the cold air.
I would really like to catch that moon again in the morning over the Zephyr. A meteor display is also going on and I did see a few in the Orion area of the sky today.
Have a great afternoon and evening back there.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good morning Mike. Sounds like the wind slowed down after hearing it on KJ's video. That's a good thing. We're supposed to get the wind this afternoon. Beautiful Hunters moon for the Zephyr ride and all of us. It was great to see it about midnight. Have a great day as always and be safe.

Good morning, David; Thanks for dialing in along with the comments. The wind did kick up out here yesterday about 1700. It is nearly calm right now, but the wind is to fire up from the southwest around noon. That is ahead of the cold front. I was elated to see the moon hanging nearly over the Zephyr as it left town.
Hope that you have a great afternoon and evening up there.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good morning Mike from 43 mid Tenn. The combo/ coach car #8, is that usually sold out for total trip yo Emeryville. That leaves #7 for local stops in & out i think. Total trip Chicago to Emeryville via coach boy that's a trip i think would be difficult. Time to hush & drink some hot coffee. You get yourself a good day.

Good morning, Ben; Thanks for dialing in and the comments. I have not done a long distance in the coach cars. I would have moved to the sight seer/lounge car not long after getting a seat assignment. Even with the big seats.
I agree with the coffee. But I've had mine and now have to finish getting the trike ready for a long winters nap.
Have a great Thursday back there.

What's the red hot glow on the lead locomotive lead truck at 4:21? It's blocked by the ladder so is definitely not a reflection.

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr
      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Місяць тому

Good morning and thanks for tuning int. I think that is an incandescent light for illuminating the steps of the ladder. The same area is lit by an LED on #78. I just remembered the LEDs work from voltage and a shift in either direction in voltage changes the color output of the LED. That may be what we are seeing on #45.

Good morning Mike. Well, you got the trike stowed for the winter? You'll be breaking out the heavy weather gear before long. Wind chill can get pretty bad there, I bet. Some of these winter mornings can be a challenge to be down at the station... or do you head to Florida and film the Auto Train! Ha😊
Now, as promised I will now make a long story boring... how I found this channel.
My health has not been good this year, June thru August was house bound, couch bound for about a week end of June. Lots of time on my hands, began watching Amtrak videos to pass the time, I came across your channel. I began to look forward to it each morning, and what sealed the deal was that one morning when a woman on the platform said, "Thank you for your service." I have never written a comment before, I did not even know how, but I figured it out and wrote some comments asking about your military service and mention mine, both Navy vets! What are the chances? And you have been very kind to continue the conversation. I look forward to your replies each day and I have learned a great deal about Fort Morgan, Colorado! And something about life there as well.
Yes, I am better now, no longer house bound, but still on going screenings and medical evaluations. Nobody has told me it is the end of the line... at least not yet! Ha!😊
Hope all is well with you
    T L Blair HM2

Good morning, Ted; Thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. I appreciate it. Yep. I just returned from the storage shed. I had to get the battery and cover the trike even in the shed. It was a very nice ride out there yesterday afternoon. My brother came by n his way home from work and gave me a lift back to the house.
According to the NWS and NOAA, we can't use "wind chill" anymore. It's now a severe temperature change or something like that. If it isn't broke don't fix it yet they had to. Must be part of the government. LOL! I prefer to challenge the cold as it were. Only a few days during winter do we go below zero F. for very long. And if the wind is running, the "feels like" temperature goes even lower. I use the "Grabber" hand warmers in the gloves and mittens while keeping the heater running in the pickup. Normally, the cold doesn't bother me as it does some.
I am happy to read that you aren't housebound and are able to get out and around. I've been there /done that. Never fun. I do get a walk in every morning at the depot by walking the length of the platform from Main St. west about 3 blocks and return. Does help get the blood stirring.
Like you, I have not heard the "end of the line. Please move to the next train". I am sure that will come but not yet.
I hope that you have a great Thursday out there.
Please take care and stay safe!
