I like to combine the flat second and minor third. One thing that I fairly often is go up a minor third, return to the root, then go down a minor second and keep alternating.
you always explain all the music theory concepts so eloquently. I don't think I would've gotten all the concepts without your help. Cheers as always mate
My favorite use of the flat 2nd in black metal is in Dimmu Borgir's "Spellbound by the Devil." The flat 2nd seems like such an embellishment of an interval at first glance, but in that song it just holds down an entire symphonic arrangement for a while.
I really appreciate what you're doing here on this channel. I'm a novice guitarist as I spent most of my time playing bass and doing Industrial music on the computer. I got an acoustic though and am eager to learn. I actually have noticed that black metal, played just like on an electric, actually sounds really good on an acoustic with no distortion.
Yep, trying to incorporate that in songwriting, but have still not figured out how that connects with the key of the song.. if it does att all (?) Anyway, solid walkthrough Dev, thanks!
What would you recommend as the best black metal album ever and best band ever? I grew up the in 90's listening to mainly Emperor because I gave all those other bands a chance and found them far too one dimensional and with such shit audio quality. Now though, it's Leviathan hands down are my favorite black metal band of all time with mgla being a close second
You're a big help to a newbie like me.

Wow you can ply basically anything and it sounds amazing
I'm feeling rather pleased with myself now as I've been employing a lot of flat 2nd intervals in my music without realising it. 😀
Nice video!
I always use it.
