Bob is a master. I knew honey would help a wound heal faster but I never knew why exactly. Now it makes sense after hearing that honey will kill microbes in the septic system.

Who would have thought a septic would bee killed by honey. Now that was amazing. This is why Bob is the man like Kenneth said!!!

Honey dilutes pretty easily, so I would’ve hosed it down the drain. They had a few jars break while I was there and they were using scrapers to put it into a trash can. He means it when he says don’t put it down the drain.

Who would have thought of the problems with septic and drain pipes because of Honey? You really get great info from someone who has made all the mistakes before and found the resolution for them. Craig Fr. VA / SML Bees

Ask good questions, get good answers. I did my homework, but I’m still afraid I’m too ignorant to ask all the right questions. Bob is on a different level.

Great video, as with all this series. I am currently planning my own complete extraction unit and workshop .Hopefully building will start next autumn as we are still in the planning stage, however there is a huge amount to consider. Thanks for doing this . it provides context in to many small issues that I had thought of some but not of others.

That third staged septic tank is a good idea. I pump into an overhead septic field and even that pump hose plugs when the wax causes problems within the septic tank baffles

Any ideas on a cold water bath or trap system to keep wax out of the floor drains? Somebody somewhere has that figured out, but I haven’t found it yet.

    • @aCanadianBeekeepersBlog

We use a long U channel down the floor which we try not to sweep too much wax on with the wash water, but obviously wax gets washed down into the drain. By the time it gets to the drain pipe it’s cold, and I send everything through…which causes problems but we then deal with it on a need to deal basis,
But ya, never drain hot water directly down the pipe!

Was wondering about that. In college I worked in an Animal Sciences Arena and had a similar setup where I had to wash the floor with a firehose and it all drained into a trough with steel grates overtop. I did clog the drain once, but overall it worked real well.

You are a smart man to seek the advice from the experienced one. Bob is such a goldmine of knowledge and wisdom and we are so lucky that he is willing to share. You can hire consultants that cost 2-300 dollars an hour but I would trust his wisdom first.

was looking forward to seeing the tour he gave you. Will we get to see that? I know he already did a video like that, but thought it would be interesting what he talked about and showed you too. Bob always brings up something new when he is talking. :)

There will likely be a single video that includes the best advice for honey houses, along with info and footage from the tour, but that’ll probably be on Bobs channel.

@@DuckRiverHoney our local lumber yards handle it. 4x8 and 4x10 is available. I lined my whole garage with this product. 3/8th inch pressed plywood coated with a pebble white poly washable surface. Not the cheapest thing but nice to work with.

Oh my! Two of my favorite beekeeping UA-camrs together in one video. The enjoyment is not just increased linearly (by a factor of 2) it is increased exponentially (to the power of 2). That's the engineering gobbledygook way to phrase a Southerner's words of: "man that's some mighty good stuff right there".

I am looking into converting a 22 ft long pergola into a honey house. Flooring, countertops (fold up maybe), floor drain, faucet for hose hook up, uncapping bin, and extractor. Im not commercial in any way 10 hives. Patio door and regular door. Any suggestions? There are waterproof laminate floors... Thoughts?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  2 роки тому

There is a big difference in functional and “state inspected”. I’m currently extracting in a shipping container that I run water and power to. It works very well. Make sure the floor is easy to clean, and floor drains will clog.

I’m not that far into it yet…a lot depends on scale. Stainless steel commercial three bay sinks and maybe a prep table or two would be handy.
