That's exactly how I like to spend the evening, when I'm home. Cooking out, then enjoying a beverage or two around the fire. Wood grilled food tastes even better after a day of working outside! I use sticks and a bit of paper (usually paper towels I've drained bacon on) plus kindling to get mine going. Screw lighter fluid- who wants to taste that?? My hickory is still drying and won't be ready for 6 mos at least, so I use sugar maple, apple, and/or cherry. Got post oak, too- but like the hickory, not dry yet... I'll also use Ash or Beech for the coals and btu's, and add the fruit wood later for the flavor. That works well, too. And since I'm just one guy, I'll bring out the sides in all metal skillets and cook those over the fire, too! Just add some olive oil or bacon fat to the skillet, and toss in the veg or sliced potatoes. Tastiest Brussel's Sprouts I've ever eaten! Same for fried cabbage n onions. I use wood cookies as trivets to protect the patio railing from the hot pans.
We use both round and square for pies pizza. And hot. PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY ARE AWESOME we also make breakfast with them check we make pies and freeze them good stuff
I had a fire pit in Florida and bought a round oversized cooking grate that looks like one used on a Weber. It is 36 inches around and stainless steel so it doesn't rust. Bought it off Amazon for $85. So now have it here in Missouri. I don't have as much firewood as I had in Florida but will have to buy some soon. Nothing like cooking over wood!
Coyotes were luring your dogs to where the rest of them were to try and turn them into dinner. That’s a good sign if they’ve learned their lesson about how far to chase them.
When we lived in Southern Illinois, a neighbor hunted Coyote with dogs. The breed that that group used were Airedales and when they cornered a Coyote one Airedale would start fighting and after awhile that dog would step back and the other dog would step in and continue the fight. When the Coyote got tired he would quit fighting and the dogs will dispatch the Coyote. Back in those days there was a bounty on Fox and Coyotes.
A couple of camping experiences were better for having pie irons! We would pre-cook scrambled eggs with bacon and add cheese for breakfast. The fruit filled pies were great, if you remembered to let them cool down before digging in!
Something you may enjoy if you don't already know about it. The Mt. Olive brand of diced jalapeno peppers comes in a glass jar 32 oz. We use them with many foods even corn bread. Walmart carries them as do all stores in the Dallas area. They are very good and not expensive.
This is what I call Living the Good Life !!! It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, it's about attitude and the will to do with what you have . Rocks (free), Wood (free) Metal Grate (free) Meat (You raised yourself on your homestead), The memories (Priceless !!!!) Great Video & God Bless You All !!!!!
Now that is what I call a perfect dinner, perfect dessert and the most beautiful place to eat it. I wanted to hop through the screen. Have a Blessed day.
That is how we make our apple pies at the lake. We bought our wrought iron pie maker at a RV show many years ago. Now Evan, Im going to have to go get them and make an apple pie. Rebekah, he is making me fat. LOL !!!
What a dreamy place you've got yourself Evan. Who would have thunk all those years ago camping you'd have yourself a homestead like this. I'm so happy for you both. You two are amazing ❣️
Everybody needs to relax and take it easy so your body can catch up and just gel out. That was a relaxing video and the sunset over your pond is great.
We also make pizza pockets with the pie maker, sauce, pepperoni, onion, hot peppers, mushrooms, bacon, everyone adds what they like and puts them in the fire. Love the videos, thanks for the effort of filming and sharing!
We called them "toasty pies" and filled them with strawberry jelly! Although I'm little older now and retired, it's great to do it with the grandkids when they come to visit on our property in the spring. Cheers
I love this this time of year warming temps more daylight everything starting to green up for spring the grass really has in the last couple of days. I start getting into more outside projects after work and on the weekends
Sure glad to see you two getting back to the basic's of enjoying life DAILY. What a way to end the day living off the land with food you have raised and grown and the ones you love. Thanks so much for sharing. You might want to rid your property of some of those Coyotes, they are getting to brave and trying to get rid of your pets. Keep the dogs shots current and help them stay safer. Fred.
I loved the video where y'all made the fire pit, but this topped it. I never knew those pie makers existed and I've been camping plenty of times. Once I find some, I'm gonna put my peach pie filling, that I canned, in them. Yours looked delicious. Thanks for making a video on them.
You guys are gonna have fun expanding on your campfire area. When it comes to predators on my place, PETA can't say crap. I shoot to kill and that is it. I invested too many time and money on livestock of all kind. That is my philosophy in life. It's like I told my neighbor 1 day. Yard dog up front is only to bark. My job is to defend. A dog can't talk in court, only man can. I love my dogs. Treat them better than myself. My heard pack. They will stand down a black bears we have here. They are smart. Want come on the property.
When I was in Boy Scouts, I cooked and baked just about anything I can do on a range. I never used a pie maker, but I did do a raspberry cobbler in a Dutch Oven once. One the Scoutmasters from another troop found out I could cook so he made it a point to hunt is down at the Camporees to see if I had any "extra". I always did and he was always appreciative of it. I still cook a lot, but haven't been camping in way too long. I need to remedy that.
hi Evan we did that when we went hunting but we put stew or mince [ground beef] now we still use stew or cheese onion and tomato ham but will have to try the fruit, keep up the good work, Paul
Evan, don’t let your dogs go after a lone coyote. A single coyote will draw your dogs away from your house sight & will lead them to a place where many coyotes are & kill them.
That's a great idea Ethan, I've never seen that done! Lol the pie looked so much better than the burnt hotdogs. One tip deserves another , use Peanut Butter and Apple Jelly in a sauce pan . Use more Apple Jelly than Peanut Butter put over the stove eye and heat on medium stirring constantly you want it blended well but not soupy. Put this between loaf bread once heated and mixed thoroughly. It's a great tasting sandwich 🥪!
I like hot dogs well done as well. I was wondering if the dogs need to be checked by a vet, for the bite marks, or is that something Rebecca can keep an eye on, being a nurse? You all have such a nice set up, and the pond with fish would be my goto when I want to relax in Spring and Summer.
Hi Evan, well I have a couple of those round sandwich makers but have never see a square one. Also the ones I have are made from pressed steel, yours look like they were cast. I have also never tried using it on a camp fire, I just use the stove. I love an egg one with a runny yolk or a nice bit of cheddar cheese. Ham and cheese is also a good combination. I had never given it a though about using it for sweet things, so you have given me a few ideas for things to make. Thanks for posting
That appliepie tool was really something, I must see if I can find one someplace, I think that we might have one similar to the sandwich one in one of our barns on the wall, sure will go look for it! Can you shoot the coyotes if they get too troublesome for you or hurt the dogs badly?
I remember when I was a kid 45 yrs ago.
making these at my grandparents camp ground.
good times and brought a smile to my face thank you I needed that
I like that, you present yourself well , and have great ideas.
What a peaceful evening. After a busy day, that's just what one needs. Nature is good for the soul❤

Sometimes, it's the simply things in life that we enjoy!
After watching your apple pie iron I bought three of them. The grandkids loved them. Lots of fun. Thanks.
Hi.... Evan and Rebecca nice to see you love watching your videos, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🏡🎥👍👍👍
Brings back many memories. Thanks.
We camp with grand kids alot, and make meals on the fire alot, now we also have a great idea for desert too. Thanks so much.
Living your best life. = my life goal. I always enjoy your channel. God bless.
We always use the square ones to make our campfire pies. Apple, blueberry, cherry. Yum!
Me and family really enjoy all your videos!!
It all looks so good. The apple pie made me hungry, look yummy
We use both round and square for pies pizza. And hot. PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY ARE AWESOME we also make breakfast with them check we make pies and freeze them good stuff

Beautiful sunset
Done that when I was 10 in scouts! and I am 71 now!
Mmmm Mmmm good. Nothing like cooking over a open fire!
Coyotes were luring your dogs to where the rest of them were to try and turn them into dinner. That’s a good sign if they’ve learned their lesson about how far to chase them.
We used to make these pies. My kids like peanut butter, chocolate and a marshmallow. Yummy
Ok, That settles it! I'm going Camping as soon as I get my garden plants in the ground! (and I'm also gonna find me one of those pie thingys!)
Great video! I’m going to try that apple pie on the campfire, looks great!👍🏻
Look yummy. You can use biscuits too for the pie crust. A little scoop of vanilla ice cream is a treat too.
We made hobo stews. Burger, onions, carrots, potatoes & pat of butter for each sealed in heavy duty foil pouch!

Great idea!
Life is good folks
Great pie ideas
That looks really good I love apple pie

Serve with a chunk of cheddar. Yummy

You really got the place looking nice. Great job.
Thats what I would call well done 😁🤙
I like a baked potato with Lipton onion soup mix and butter cooked on the fire.
Hi Evan & Rebekah, looked really yummy, maybe should have kept the charcoal snags to start the next fire 😍😍😍
A trick I learned in grade school… “Your sweet tooth will be a desert without dessert”.. two s’s because you always want more!
Funny how the Campfire over a warm fire brings back those fond memories of family gatherings. We all need this, to get together again.
This was fun
Nice day
We also make "hot pockets" with those. They make a good hot ham and cheese, we also do some pizza sauce, pepperoni and cheese.
Both of you have a great day.
The simple pleasusres of life. How nice. Thanks for taking us along. The pie looks delicious.
My boys made pizza pockets too!
that was a awesome video.
Now that is what I call a perfect dinner, perfect dessert and the most beautiful place to eat it. I wanted to hop through the screen. Have a Blessed day.

Your video is such a relief after viewing a lot of war news.
What a dreamy place you've got yourself Evan. Who would have thunk all those years ago camping you'd have yourself a homestead like this. I'm so happy for you both. You two are amazing ❣️
Perfect evening to relax.
that campfire apple pie brings back so many great memories as kid doing this with my parents
Hi, Evan and Rebekah! That looks like so much fun. As always, thanks for sharing your evening with us.
When my family goes camping we make all sorts of pudgy pies like pizza
Everybody needs to relax and take it easy so your body can catch up and just gel out. That was a relaxing video and the sunset over your pond is great.
Pizza Mountain Pie: Bread and pizza filling (your favorites)
When we grill we always say “the burnt part is the best part “
THAT made me hungry!! LOL
We also make pizza pockets with the pie maker, sauce, pepperoni, onion, hot peppers, mushrooms, bacon, everyone adds what they like and puts them in the fire. Love the videos, thanks for the effort of filming and sharing!
Good morning. The sunshine looks wonderful. It's gray here today...edmonton Alberta.🇨🇦🇨🇦
Pie maker, is known in Australia as a Jaffel iron, still used for similar cooking. Love hot jaffels. 🇦🇺
i like your new fire pit
When its brown, its cookin. When its black, hits done. I heard that when I was a kid. It's not the way I grill. (By plan). Thanks for sharing
We called them "toasty pies" and filled them with strawberry jelly! Although I'm little older now and retired, it's great to do it with the grandkids when they come to visit on our property in the spring. Cheers
I can't wait to go camping. I really love the fire pit❤ God bless
In South Africa well call that a “jaffel pan”
I love this this time of year warming temps more daylight everything starting to green up for spring the grass really has in the last couple of days. I start getting into more outside projects after work and on the weekends

That's a great idea making those apple pies. I never saw that before. I'm definitely looking for one of those.
I enjoyed the evening with you guys! So nice to see you relax and have a good time. Going tomorrow and buy 2 pie makers!!!!
your house is very nice
Not the best thing to watch when your on a diet lol. But didn’t that good look so yum. Really like the apple pie making idea.
I loved the video where y'all made the fire pit, but this topped it. I never knew those pie makers existed and I've been camping plenty of times. Once I find some, I'm gonna put my peach pie filling, that I canned, in them. Yours looked delicious. Thanks for making a video on them.
Looks like a really fun night, but did you get your potato ? 👍💚
How about making a ham-and-cheese hot pocket for dinner and a pie for dessert with that pie maker?
Love it

You really sound so smart!
Shoot to kill...I like it!!
Well deserved downtime! That ham looked so good! Sure can tell homegrown from store bought! Thanks for taking us along again!
Cheese steaks are my favorite with a mountain pie maker
good video
Good eatin .
Nice!
Our fire pit has about 1/3 open (no bricks/rocks) so we can use the Dutch oven. Makes it a lot easier to manage the coals.
Dessert is a course that concludes a meal. lol
I’m going to try those pies!😊
Good idea to fabricate a custom made grille.
Like your videos Food & pie looks good

When it's smoking - it's cooking. When it catches on fire - it's done.
Making me hungry but can't take jalapeno. It gives me heartburn
That appliepie tool was really something, I must see if I can find one someplace, I think that we might have one similar to the sandwich one in one of our barns on the wall, sure will go look for it!
Can you shoot the coyotes if they get too troublesome for you or hurt the dogs badly?
Yes they sale them on Amazon for a reasonable price to square and round
Coyotes have been known to lure prey to where the main pack is located.
You need a 22.250!
We called the round one flying saucers, great for sandwiches too, cut off excess bread around.
