A lot of people like to criticize Dominique Jackson's acting on the show for not showing enough range, but they fail to realize that her character is based off of how house mothers were back then. Regal, dignified and hardly bats an eye but still able to help others in time of need. She's a lovely actress and deserves every bit of praise in life
Exactly. I know Paris is Burning has its fair share of controversies but despite that, it's still firmly on the Essential Viewing list. Dorian Corey could break you and your shortcomings down to the atomic level so elegantly and smoothly that you wouldn't even realize that she just read the absolute dogsh*t outta you until the next day if you were lucky. The next week if you were stupid. 😆🏳️🌈🎉
People who critize her acting clearly haven't ever had to learn that type of dialogue in such a short time span. She speaks every word as if it was coming out of her brain right that second, she's a great actress.
I kind of feel like Elektra is kind of always “acting”. Putting up a front and being outspoken to hide her insecurities. I think Dominique portrays that very well
What you just described is the definition of reading. Its an insult, but with class; something personal, and undeniable, and more often than not, eloquently spoken. Calling out someones flaws in the cattiest way possible.

The colorism really undermines the brilliance of the show IMO. The ways Elektra & Blanca were pitted against one another could be very realistic but also very flat when it could've been written more subtly & complex.
