Real singer, Real musicians, playing REAL music. It was so great to listen again again to this. Loved watching the video. Joe has the wild eyes as he pulls every note from his throat and the jerky conducting moves is so classic.
This one of my all time favorite songs. I feel incredibly lucky to have been a young man who got to enjoy such an incredible musical era. I am now 71 years old and the more I hear songs like this, the more that I appreciate them. I am sorry but there is just no comparison when you compare music from that era to what they are now passing for music.
I saw the Mad Dogs tour on May 16, 1970, my mom’s 35th birthday, I turned 15, 7 days later. Joe Cocker remains my favorite concert of my life, you closed your eyes and the sound was absolutely perfect, mixed exactly like his albums. I had never heard anything like Joe Cocker, and I agree with the comments, Joe made every song he covered HIS SONG!!!!
I was also at that concert, swing auditorium San Bernardino, California. I had just graduated from my junior year of high school. That was their last concert together. Just a great show.
@ Me too, I graduated from from Jr. High to Ramona High School in Riverside. My gang of girlfriends all went to the Swing constantly. I left Southern California after high school, though I did attend San Bernardino Cal State 1st, but I hated the smog and congestion, so much traffic. I’m a small rural town gal living in Washington State by the ocean.
Thanks Andranik, I'm a 69 year old musician from Jersey who can't say any more than what's already been said. This group of musicians rank as the very best right up to today. Peace, Rocky
Fell in love with him at age 14 in 1969. Saw him at a concert at Soldier Field. Saw him throughout my life. His poster above my bed. Woo hoo. Adored this man his music and lyrics. The best.
Wow I grew up with this stuff too thanks to Mom, You are so lucky to have seen him with the Grease Band in 69. I was only 8 in 69 but have all the memories.
There you go, first ever single I bought was Leon Russell ""Hard Rain's" and I never knew he played guitar, thought he was a piano man, what a buzz to see him jammin' with Joe on one of my favourite songs...
I had the pleasure of seeing this Mad Dogs and Englishmen concert in Dallas, 1970. Absolutely, the best and most memorable concert I've ever seen, even overshadowing the Beatles, 1964 USA Tour.
Saw them in April, 1970 outdoors in Chapel Hill, NC. It was near the end of the tour and they were clearly worn down. Cocker was drinking straight gin from the bottle and paused midsong to throw up off the side of the stage. Because there were so many people on stage, it was hardly noticed. And Joe went right back to singing. And drinking.
I saw the Mad Dogs and Englishman concert at the Filmore East and it was the best concert I ever saw. So much talent, I even saw the Beatles in 1964 and it was great but a different era and you can't compare.
I believe there is film version of Leon Russell playing the piano parts on stage. Leon was probably too stoned that day. He was not the only one that got stoned in the 60s and 70s. I often flew with Mary Jane on flights I don't remember. I think I may have seen Joe Cocker. Maybe? Oh and Leon died before the 1st wireless guitar plugin was patented and made. 1975. What got me to divorce Mary Jane was calculus. Hang out with her on Sunday. Too much brain fog on Monday.
Thank God for Leon Russell. Without his efforts the mad dogs and Englishman tour would never have happened. Used to have the vinyl years ago. And had the tour on VHS tape. Bloody brilliant.
Russell is the real hero of this album Quite a story about how it developed. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform in Phila. the wildest concert i cared to go to
Joe Cocker had the ability to take any song and make it his own. Did it with so many, including the Beatles, Randy Newman, Traffic, and others. Gone too soon.
Yes indeed Leon Russell gots some moves dancing all over that stage playing his guitar 😄. Great song this group had alot of fun singing this song and did it well.
Leon is so darn sexy! I happened upon him at a club @ age 19x. Was an ethereal experience as I hadn’t heard of him before. He was about 30ft away plunking~singing alone at his upright piano. This was in ‘78😅 😻
Thanks for pointing out Chris because everyone should be credited & I didn't know who he was, but I do know Leon only got the best musicians to perform with.
@@SlinkygalChris has been playing since 1960, he has played with so many great artists, he has been touring worldwide with Clapton since early 2000, he doesn't get a lot of exposure on stage!

Dave Mason composed this song with Traffic. All this version has is Chris Stainton, Leon Russel, Bobby Keys playing with Joe Cocker singing lead vocals and Rita Coolidge, etc. singing back-up. Amazing. Why don't we have talent like this anymore?
Bought this album when it came out. Played it visiting my aunt in Dallas and her neurosurgeon husband, this music transcended generations, we all rocked to it at night preparing, eating and after dinner on my uncles cool sound system. What special memories. Auntie is still alive at 89 but refuses a phone or PC so I can't send this to her. It's a shame as she'd love it. Her husband just died at 91.

Phenomenon!! I saw him in ‘78 at a tiny club playing piano~singing @ age 19x. Time stood still and I stared…30ft away, had no idea who he was then. Would have loved to have seen this tour…Omg…spiritual🎉😅 😻
We who lived that golden era know we had the greatest music cornucopia that will ever come. We relive our good fortune with huge knowing smiles as we see current youth or those who were hijacked by something nowhere near the equal but who now discover the extraordinary art they missed. We are more than happy to see this treasure trove dusted off, shining bright and on our airwaves once again. So full of life it will never die.
The best band of the 70's. Delaney and Bonnie, JJ Cale, Eric Clapton and Derek and the Dominoes, Georges Harrison Band and Leon Russel. Sadly, most of them are dead now.
No one seems to mention Leon's Brilliance with the Guitar... His Unparalleled Music/ Songwriting sencablity is on Fire in Feeling Alright with The Mad Dogs
Leon was probably the most under-rated musician of all time.. People in the business knew and respected his work, but most of his career was spent making other artist's sound a lot better...

I love this shit. All soul. When you wonder what the hell old Joe's on Leon Russell comes strolling through the background, feeling pretty good himself.
I bought mad dogs on cassette tape. back then double records were recorded on thinner tape than a regular single LP due to the weight of the reels. I played it so many times. Delta Lady, Space Captain, Cry me a River, the Letter....I snapped it within a month. repaired it w some scotch tape on the backside and kept on playing it till I snapped it again. LoL.
I have seen Joe Cocker live several times over the decades and I never was disappointed. What a singer. Always delivered. And always accompanied by great musicians, especially on keys!

I got to see Joe Cocker in 1981 in NYC. He blew the roof off the place, it was amazing! But I've really been nuts for Leon since I first saw him at the Fillmore East when (unknown) Elton John was his opening act. Imagine that.
this band is just alive with life, just cant find old school anymore and the new music is border line crap, all produced to death , just to market and make cash, this is life and artistry love it.
A frontman’s job is to get the audience into it; how could anyone not respond when Mr Cocker is so very much there and putting out so well. I admit to tears welling up as I see this again. And those singing ladies! Rita was…. 19 ?!! Church music….I’m feelin’ alright.

Yea, you should been there, it was great live!!!
Real singer, Real musicians, playing REAL music. It was so great to listen again again to this. Loved watching the video. Joe has the wild eyes as he pulls every note from his throat and the jerky conducting moves is so classic.
Two greats, Joe and Leon. ❤❤
You are watching and listening to the spirit of God when ever you watch Joe perform.
Peace can't be permitted to "leave the building" ✌🏼B
My mom even liked Joe Cocker! In the 70’s they just showed up & played their hearts 💞 & souls out! No big fancy productions 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
@@joannah1477 most of the lyrics were not his. Love him. Hung out with him.
@@susanedrington4878 really. And whose were they?
There you go, first ever single I bought was Leon Russell ""Hard Rain's" and I never knew he played guitar, thought he was a piano man, what a buzz to see him jammin' with Joe on one of my favourite songs...
Absolutely!!!
Another pure classic that never gets old.
Music era that will never be duplicated! Lived it! Loved it!
Thank you Lord for giving me the chance to see Mr. Cocker twice: 1974 and 2003. I was brought to tears in '03.
Hahhah! I forgot how great Joe Cocker was, Thanks for posting this.
No words could describe!
One of my life's fantasies is to have been a back-up singer for one of these Joe Cocker & Leon Russell revues, like the greatest honkytonk party ever!
Excelent Rock Singer Joe Cocker!
We miss you Forever and Ever!!❤
I had the pleasure of seeing this Mad Dogs and Englishmen concert in Dallas, 1970. Absolutely, the best and most memorable concert I've ever seen, even overshadowing the Beatles, 1964 USA Tour.
The Brits were good in studio but they never groved like us Yanks 😂 lol
Saw them in April, 1970 outdoors in Chapel Hill, NC. It was near the end of the tour and they were clearly worn down. Cocker was drinking straight gin from the bottle and paused midsong to throw up off the side of the stage. Because there were so many people on stage, it was hardly noticed. And Joe went right back to singing. And drinking.
What a privilege to be there 🤗✨💕💫What a concert I missed. I was a young girl back in Venezuela where we love Joe Cocker.
I saw them 1970 also at Franklin & Marshall
College in Lancaster, Pa. Fantastic show have always loved Joe and Leon. One of my
Favorite concerts ever
I saw the Mad Dogs and Englishman concert at the Filmore East and it was the best concert I ever saw. So much talent, I even saw the Beatles in 1964 and it was great but a different era and you can't compare.
Chris Stainton is truly a great keyboardist.
Best air guitarist of all time.
Best soul rocker ever, love his performances
Thank God for Leon Russell. Without his efforts the mad dogs and Englishman tour would never have happened. Used to have the vinyl years ago. And had the tour on VHS tape. Bloody brilliant.
i saw it in a theater when it first came out. having more than one frame on the screen at the same time was considered innovative, believe it or not
Russell is the real hero of this album Quite a story about how it developed. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform in Phila. the wildest concert i cared to go to
Joe Cocker had the ability to take any song and make it his own. Did it with so many, including the Beatles, Randy Newman, Traffic, and others. Gone too soon.
Joe was in a class of his own! Great singer/performer. Distinctive voice and style.
This was in ‘78😅
😻
It’s amazing how fantastic they preformed in spite of how many drugs and alcohol was in their blood streams !!!
The mad dog’s album is top five live LPs of all time!!killer album
Chris Stainton on piano and he is still playing today, Leon on guitar, todays music can even compare to this!
Levon Helms guitar.
Tedeschi Trucks Band is comparable today. Infact they did an entire Mad Dogs and Englishmen tribute tour.
@@CapeBass508you are correct, I'm talking about other genres of music not blues and rock, Susan has one of the best voices in the business and her guitar skills are unbelievable, her husband's guitar skills are phenomenal!
Their band makes an outstanding effort in every song play, they put their heart and soul into their music!
Dave Mason composed this song with Traffic. All this version has is Chris Stainton, Leon Russel, Bobby Keys playing with Joe Cocker singing lead vocals and Rita Coolidge, etc. singing back-up. Amazing. Why don't we have talent like this anymore?
The drummer Jim Gordon murdered his mom.
Ah, Traffic! Dear mister Fantasy was an iconic album!
@@VictorRochaGaming Two great drummers; along with Jim Gordon there was Jim Keltner too
Oh. I was wondering who the great piano player was; I didn't recognize him since I've only seen Stainton as an old (but still great) guy.
Carl Radle and Jim Gordon from the dominoes. Greatest stage band ever assembled.
💙RIP, JOE! thanks for the tunes.
When Cocker began to sing a spirit takes possession of him and you got something more than human.
WOW -that is a young Joe Cocker
I could put this on repeat and still wouldn’t get tired of listening ❤️
Doing just that as I read your post. :)
I’m
With
You
Brother
❤❤❤
Que afortunado he sido en la vida, tengo 70 años y aún me emociono viendo y escuchando a este gran vocalista. Eres inmortal: Joe Cocker!
Well my dear person, I am turning 80 this month and I so do appreciate your sweet narrative of this lovely memory that we share in a way. Print out your message and mail it to her, the old fashioned way, in an envelope with a stamp on and a pic of the album cover!❤🩹
An absolute great idea!
Great recollection! We all loved Joe! Still do!
Incredible voice from back then right up to love lift us up, nobody can sing that song like Joe
Leon pulled this together in what - 11 days? Absolutely amazing. Have been listening to it since I was a pre-teen, and now I am on social security.
Yup....74 here.
Same here, and I still love it. I'm a guitar player and I learned all the songs on the album when I was young.
The song was written by Dave Mason and Steve Winwood, of The Traffic, that is for it is so good song. Joe Cocker made the best version that's right.
If I'm not mistaken, the pianist playing at this performance appeared to be Chris Stainton, who regularly played with Joe Cocker.
Phenomenon!! I saw him in ‘78 at a tiny club playing piano~singing @ age 19x. Time stood still and I stared…30ft away, had no idea who he was then. Would have loved to have seen this tour…Omg…spiritual🎉😅
😻
And performed also by magnificent artists, God Bless Them All !!!
Coky.j ai eu la chance de le voir.une pure tuerie.Dieu quel concert.a jamais dans ma vie il restera
RIP Jim Gordon. The RnR world forgot about you but I never did. Glad you're finally free.
For real leon russel ❤❤❤❤❤❤have seen him in essen with invaluds on stage joe doing his spastic hair..😊❤❤❤❤
Leon was probably the most under-rated musician of all time.. People in the business knew and respected his work, but most of his career was spent making other artist's sound a lot better...
And the piano!
Leon is amazing what a man WOW love him❤😊❤
Elton's wet dream.
Must be weird not to have grown up with this sort of music, like I did, thank God. Joe was in my life since I was 12.
As was Leon in my life; the “Tulsa Sound” master of space and time.
Even weirder is the thought that lives were lived and lost before this music was created. At least the younger generation can hear it.
@@riverraisin1 Really? Didn't know that! 🤣😎
This was gone for a long time. I'm elated to see it again. CLASSIC
I feel sorry for any vocalist whose hit song is covered by Joe Cocker. Because from the delivery of the first line, that song is HIS.
The Beatles got paid every time they played Joe’s version of With A Little Help FMF.
He sure did; phenomenal talent.
He was one of them artists…all the while complimenting the original
Beatles songs being done used to be my worst nightmare, but hearing Joe Cocker doing them I'm good! ❤
Still like Traffic's original better.
That opener is practically peerless. Banger from word go.
l agree with you, indeed joe cocker is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days🙏🙏🙏🙏
This was some concert Joe Cocker singing and Leon Russell on piano and guitar. Miss the 70's. Getting old sucks.

hello suz how are you doing i hope you are doing good
I love this shit. All soul. When you wonder what the hell old Joe's on Leon Russell comes strolling through the background, feeling pretty good himself.
I had this album, and listened to it over and over ....
I love both Joe and Leon, great musical experience
He felt, lived it . Thanks to his visual I felt it too. God bless him.
LoL.
Simple two chord song. Nothing terribly fancy going on there What a groove !!
I have seen Joe Cocker live several times over the decades and I never was disappointed. What a singer. Always delivered. And always accompanied by great musicians, especially on keys!
Always on Time and on Pitch...every time!!!
Turned one step next to the four-score age today and "not filling too good myself..." I love this song and Joe (RIP friend) wails my feelings every A-FIB beat of my heart.

Joe and Leon...fantastic rendition! Killer background singers and horn section. Love it...thanks for posting.

What a gifted soulful voice and an amazing unique style. RIP
I got to see Joe Cocker in 1981 in NYC. He blew the roof off the place, it was amazing! But I've really been nuts for Leon since I first saw him at the Fillmore East when (unknown) Elton John was his opening act. Imagine that.
Magnificent how Joe plays the piano and guitar at the same time
this band is just alive with life, just cant find old school anymore and the new music is border line crap, all produced to death , just to market and make cash, this is life and artistry love it.
I love Traffic, but this version Is really outstanding
ICONIC
A frontman’s job is to get the audience into it; how could anyone not respond when Mr Cocker is so very much there and putting out so well. I admit to tears welling up as I see this again. And those singing ladies! Rita was…. 19 ?!! Church music….I’m feelin’ alright.
Love it!!! Love it! Yes
Wish I'd have seen Joe live.
Leon Russell (g) and Chris Stainton (p) got the funk. Such an amazing performance.
Next to puberty, solving world hunger, creating World Peace - hearing this song for the first time throughout my twenties, this was one of the most memorable things that, I forgot what I was going to say
