    Also an interesting note is this station is probably the only one that could probably pose as a London Underground station on the NYC subway with its unique "tube" construction and single side platforms. I think they did mock it up once at such some years back.
    Great video as always! Keep up the great work.

      Several stations along the Brighton line come close. Beverly Road, Cortelyou Road, and Parkside Av (IIRC) have oblong curved platform walls, but they’re not underground (although they are below grade).

    • @mzxeternal
      @mzxeternal 11 місяців тому +1

      @@davidthaler7018 That's because that line was once legit rail road, like many of the London Underground's above ground sections. Not quite the same thing.
      But 53rd & 5th is probably the most tube like subway station in NYC. 63rd Street had this look too when it still had the false wall, but once they pulled that down with the introduction of the 2nd avenue subway, 53rd is it.

    Unfortunate that they got rid of the original IND tiling at this station. It was pretty unique based on old images of the station before the 1980s renovation.

      True but the Z as Well should have been eliminated as it serves no purpose at all, as during rush hours skip stop stripes can be waiting almost 15 to 20 minutes for a J why because the Z has those original J Trains that run a useless skip stop pattern, that wouldn’t make up any time so, the Z has no purpose of existing at all.

      @@jaimepimentel1502 exactly like if you want the Z to be useful you can have the Z skip stops after Myrtle Ave to Jamaica Center while the J Trains handing local service. With that then you have the Z being somewhat useful but as for now it’s completely useless.

    I’m thinking that you should do a video on how we would fix the debacle near the 149th Street portal in the Bronx. Being a 2 and 5 train rider, I just don’t see the point in delaying trains near the 149th Street portal, so my suggestion is to extend the express track on the White Plains Line to 149th Street-Grand Concourse by converting that and 3rd Avenue-149th Street into express stations and removing the switches leading into and out of the portal. This will help passengers during rush hours and especially when there’s construction happening on the White Plains Line. You won’t have too many passengers transferring platforms at Grand Concourse and you won’t have passengers waiting on the platform at 3rd Avenue-149th Street for a 2 train if a 5 train is going express uptown during PM rush hours. This will also eliminate the Unlimited MetroCard transfer at 3rd Avenue-149th Street.

    My favorite subway station is Rockefeller Center on the B D F and M! One of the most interesting things about about the station is it has 6 different entrances and exits in the proximity of the station. I also like how it has the concourse level of shops and restaurants and besides that they have staircases and escalators that go up to building of 30 Rockefeller Center and have access to the shops in the building but also having access to the concourse level and my favorite the subway. I just love the features of Rockefeller Center and also having access to the ice skating rink and shops on 5th Avenue. You should do a video on that 😊

    That escalator and staircase corridor on the southbound platform is seriously steep. One time after climbing up that staircase and nearly killing myself in the process, I told the station agent that the MTA has to replace them with elevators. I didn't pay that much attention to the artwork there though, and I don't think too many people do.

      The M is a more useful line than the V was. The V was always under used (even sometimes having empty cars in the evening rush.
      Plus the M actually gave real purpose to the Christie Street Connection and has been successful.
      What they really need to bring back is full G service to 71st/ Continental.

      I think the V line should go from forest hills run all lcl (and serve 63rd st) then run exp in brooklyn serving exp up to kings highway (on the F)
      the M can be rerouted and interlined with the R train and go to bay ridge. the N train would continue on the exp track and then interline with the V line on 63rd street and run all the way lcl until forest hills and finally the R would run into astoria (along with the W)

    Given that the E connects with AirTrain-JFK, the station needs needs luggage-friendly access to the Queens-bound platform. The nearest accessible station is Rockefeller Center, which isn’t served by the E train. Passengers would have to walk past Fifth/53 just to return via the Queens-bound F and then have to transfer to the E en route. Kinda inconvenient.

      I would have said this before, but the swap is broadly popular with riders and the MTA. Considering that the F train labels are bold black and not white (except for the platform signs), this could be a sign that the MTA is considering making this swap permanent. The MTA was planning on doing this in 2020 before the pandemic cancelled these plans.
